So whats next for Cotto?
So whats next for Cotto?
He was rumoured to be fighting against Alvarez and now hes apparently in the frame to fight Floyd for a second time. Whats next for him?

I think Bob wants to feed Tim Bradley to him. Well I think thats probably the plan, but Tim don't like losing.
Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Lets remember that Cotto is now the MIDDLEWEIGHT champion of the world and he should probably be fighting, umm, middleweights? Cotto is the most overrated boxer in history and was extremely lucky that Sergio didn't have a leg to stand on because a couple of years earlier, Cotto would have been KO'd. My guess is that Cotto loses his next fight unless he cherry picks a tune up title defense. The Middleweight Champion used to be prestigious. Not now.
Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Cotto is a blown up welter. He will not fight healthy top middleweights. Top LMWs will likely beat him too. Time to retire.

Sh!t. Miguel ain't retiring. Guy has 2, maybe 3 eight or near eight digit paydays in front of him still. Miguel is a smart mfer. He's either getting Saul & GGG or if he can parlay another Floyd fight in Floyd, Saul & GGG. Ain't nobody retiring willingly when they got $20,000,000+ in front of them still.ikorolev wrote:Time to retire.

8-digit payday plus possible brain damage or retiring as a lineal MW champ ? When you got enough money, a choice is not so obvious. The only good options for Cotto are Floyd, Bradley and other welters or feather-fisted LMWs.ReggieDiggs wrote:Sh!t. Miguel ain't retiring. Cotto fighting GGG just seems so wrong, although at least he wouldn't take a long term beat down like he did against Pacquiao.ReggieDiggs wrote:He's either getting Saul & GGG or if he can parlay another Floyd fight in Floyd, Saul & GGG. Man its a boxing match not a reenactment of the movie 300. Anyone can get hurt in any fight. We know that. Miguel has already made "worse decisions" back when he was fighting world class guys for $100k, $500k & what not. Now he's fighting world class guys for millions upon millions of dollars. GGG ain't a super f#cking hero who's gonna crush Miguel's skull at first strike.
There is ALWAYS a chance a guy can get severely injured or killed in the ring, but I'd take the bet, as I'm sure Miguel would to, that Miguel is more likely gonna be negatively affected at some future date from the thousands of rounds he's boxed amateur, professional & in sparring then in any one 36 minute or less fight he has from now til he hangs them up.

Perhaps a challenger like Danny Jacobs, Vanes, or rematch with Trout. Tough to really say

I bet Danny is gonna be matched up with Peter sometime in the summer or later in a PBC fight, assuming he beats Andy & if that fight even happens obviously. That was a fight that was talked about awhile back & so were Lamont vs Danny & Robert vs Keith which are already PBC fights.birdman77 wrote:Perhaps a challenger like Danny Jacobs, Vanes, or rematch with Trout. Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Cotto v Bradley at 154 would be awesome
Re: So whats next for Cotto?
i always liked cotto. for me he has the aura of
old time classic boxing around him. high work
ethic, classic, simple style. in this respect he is
like froch for me.
i would love if he could hang them up. he was
lucky in the martinez bout. but he wouldn't be
lucky against GGG, who is a real middle weight.
i wouldn't like to see miguel humiliated, which
i think could happen easily.
best fight for him is of course floyd. he won't
get hurt, but of course he won't win either. yet
to me that is a totally uninteresting matchup.
if this is the best that TBE can come up with as
one his last appearances ...
one more payday. fighting clever to not end
under the bus and sayonara, that's what i would
find best.

i agree, but only to an extent. i could imagineReggieDiggs wrote:Man its a boxing match not a reenactment of the movie 300. Anyone can get hurt in any fight. We know that. that accumulated punishment reduces shock
absorbance. thus tough fights late in a career
carry more weight than early ones.
on the other hand i never sensed any punch
drunk symptoms on miguel. but still i would
not like to see him against GGG, no fan of
miguel's would. he simply can't win.
Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Id like to see Cotto vs Canelo.
Both fighters I enjoy watching, should make an interesting fight
Cotto isn't a middle and GGG wipes the floor with him.
And I'm bored of every fighter shelving plans waiting on the Floyd payday.

Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Well the thing most people overlook is brain injuries can take years before they show up physically. I believe, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it can take up to a decade, at least several years I'm sure of that part, before you can show effects of a brain injury in some cases. If all these cats making millions like Miguel are being smart they are doing more brain scans than a mad scientist to early detect anything they can so they can enjoy their millions fully.man wrote:i agree, but only to an extent. i could imagineReggieDiggs wrote:Man its a boxing match not a reenactment of the movie 300. Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Why not fight Lara? I don't think he has a fight scheduled. Maybe he isn't well enough known, high risk/low reward, one of those types of excuses.
Bradley or Maidana would be good fights, and imo, even fights.
It's pretty sad to see someone that calls their self a lineal champion at 160, and seems afraid to fight the top guys in his own weight class, at 160. Fight someone there, give up the freaking belt, or retire.

Agreed. Cotto was not a big guy at 147.ReggieDiggs wrote:Sh!t. Miguel ain't retiring. Guy has 2, maybe 3 eight or near eight digit paydays in front of him still. Miguel is a smart mfer. I think Cotto should retire soon, he's taken a lot of punishment, not least the margarita fight.
Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Cotto became middleweight champion by beating a guy with serious knee injuries that left him unable to move around the ring. He won the light middleweight title the same way.
I doubt Cotto would beat any of the world's top 20 middleweights (which is not the same as the top 20 "ranked" middleweights), so he's probably just hanging on to his title until he gets made an offer he can't refuse.

One thing Roach is good at, is clever match-making. He does everything in his power to assure his fighter has the advantage, whether it be catch-weight (weight draining), or catching an opponent coming off losses/injuries, etc. He then attributes the success to his greatness as a trainer.
Cotto got his ass handed to him by Trout. I hope whoever he wants to fight next at least says he has Trout problems.
Re: So whats next for Cotto?
How about Mundine?
Re: So whats next for Cotto?
He was maybe a touch lucky v Martinez though if Sergio knew he was so crocked he should have pulled out. Cotton trained for the best Martinez and dealt with the one in front of him in style. He is not massively overrated and gives his all in every hour and deserves respect; he does need to be careful who he boxes at middle though he may have been working hard to make himself the best middleweight he can be.

Re: So whats next for Cotto?
I love Erislandy Lara, BUT he's not a guy most would wanna fight cuz you're never gonna look good. You either lose or you win in a fairly uneventful fight in the eyes of most boxing fans. Personally I'd like to see the fight, but I think I'm in a extremely small minority that wanna see it.Badhusker wrote:Why not fight Lara? I don't think he has a fight scheduled. Re: So whats next for Cotto?
Roach will not let Cotto fight Lara -- chances of losing are way too high.
