About Joe Bugner

As far as limited research on the internet.
We werent able to confirm that Joe Bugner came to America in 1969.
It would seem it was in 1970 that the Dailey Mirror sponsered Andy English and Bugner to go to the states.

Havent found anything about him sparring with jerry Quarry in England just Thad Spencer.

Not sure if it's on YouTube but the Bugner fight with Pedro lovell was an absolute farce... The crowd were in uproar... Ali is at ringside and tries to save the promoters neck and jumps up on to the ring apron and goads Bugner... Pulls his shirt off and starts throwing the fastest jabs you ever seen at joe.

Just as an aside.....you get a real sense what a long and remarkable career Joe had when he think that he fought Cooper in 1971 and was still fighting Scott Welch in 1996. Sure, there was some breaks...but that is a 25 year span......and Joe had not finished after Welch either.

Can anyone remember the exact background to the Welch fight? Got the feeling it was first meant to be for Scott's British and Commonwealth belts but the Board said no and it got shifted to Germany and was a bit of an oddity.

Sorry, didn't mean to irk you. I just have never understood people's fascination with tales from the gym. It always seems that one guy just crushed the other guy. Doubtful it happens that way most of the time. Even if it did, it doesn't matter at all. It's only sparring. You never hear this stuff in other sports; ie stories about someone dunking on Michael Jordan or something like that.
