I personally don't think Eddie can deliver an equivalent of Benn-Gman or Hatton-Kostya. Fights where you've got to dig deep into the pockets.

I`m not saying I fully disagree with you and this might not be quite on that level but getting Bute over at that time was a bit stroke, but that was a long time ago and Froch had to take small money for the fight. At the time Bute was seen as a destroyer who was going to end Froch,to get the fight over here before the proposed second fight which would of been over there was a great move and proberly the best deal he has done, but that was 3 years ago now.mickey1975 wrote:I personally don't think Eddie can deliver an equivalent of Benn-Gman or Hatton-Kostya. Just by this latest 'twitter beef' between Eddie & George Groves fast car has still not learned his lesson with how to treat big name fighters and their egos especially as he badly needs them so he can deliver on his remit to his fighters and also sky who clearly want PPVs and big fights etc.
it's no coincidence that Khan, Frampton/Mcguigan, Groves, even the Eubanks Etc none of them seem to even like Eddie which makes negotiations almost impossible in fact he winds all 3 of the formers up completely- Eubank Snr refused to deal with him & only wanted to consider working with Matchroom through Barry.
Eddie possibly mainly due to his upbringing which obviously isn't his 'fault' lacks the natural ability of his dad & the Warren's etc to deal with these fighters and do what is necessary to get the job done...it might be that touch of working class stock that enabled Barry & Frank two classic examples of that era to hustle and fight their way up through the old establishment right to the top-both have a ruthless Streak as we all know and both have that ability to charm their way to getting what they want. Eddie is brilliant in a marketing sense and the work he has done delivering boxing across the UK at that particular level is fantastic but he can't get things done with the big boys.
Back to my original point..even if
It's privately we need Barry to step in
And sort out the fights as George suggested to Eddie in the twitter exchanges. Eddie can still be the public face for the media for the negotiations but let Barry get the actual business done FFS.
I fail to see how he is struggling. Fair enough he isnt popluar with hardcore boxing fans, but thats not his job. His job is to make as much money for himself and his fighters as possible. No one can deny he isnt doing that.
I mean getting more than 10 people to buy the Bellew vs Cleverly PPV would deserve an induction to the hall of fame. I wouldnt pay 50p to watch that fight but hundreds of thousands of people payed £15, if that isnt wonderful promoting i dont know what is.
Hearn might have had short term success with the Bellew-Clev joke interms of sales but what long term damage could that have done... lets look at Haye v Harrison/Wlad fights which sold treble the amount...the backlash from those PPVs caused sky to suspend PPV for a couple of years..
Plus Hearns popularity amongst hardcore fans took a nose dive.
I'm pretty certain that the Brook fight would have been PPV (even without a US leg) had it not been for the storm of unhappiness from the last PPV so sky ruled it out..that's just an opinion but if anybody has got inside information to say that it was always going to be standard sky I would be delighted to hear about it.

Brook would have been part of the ppv package had the Froch Chavez fight gone ahead as a double header.
The Brook fight was initially slated for 21/3 and as a stand alone bill was NEVER talked about as being ppv.

I don't really like people who swear too much in the course of normal conversation, it's a bit uncooth imho.
Going off that, I would buy a used car off Quigg no problem.
I think there is no shame at all in Eddie following in his Dad's footsteps. I would say it's what 50% of lads do.........probably more before the job market went a bit rubbish and also these agencies useless temporary contracts started popping up all over.
It stands to reason that his Dad will be a bit "smoother" at this type of things, having had a hand in boxing - snooker - football and possibly even darts (?).
What I would say is that Cleverly versus Bellew did not float my boat whatsoever!! Largely down to the fact I didn't think there was enough quality involved. Both fighters need to be world class before you start banding PPV around. I'm absolutely amazed that it sold. I even know boxers who bought it. Must just be horses for courses.........I don't think it's in any way fair to pull the wool over these casual fans' eyes and treat them like mugs - as was also done with Haye versus Audley Harrison. I have a mate who shelled out for that. It's frankly a disgrace to charge a fee for that, on top of a subscription - knowing full well that some people, through no real fault of their own, are going to buy in to what is pure hype.
As a complete aside, I searched Quigg's record after this vid - it's a while since I heard Tshifiwa Munyai's name

Eddie is so far up Froch ass I doubt hes seen daylight for months.
Re: Barry Hearn needs to step in to help Eddie...
I think you'll find Barry is still pulling the strings behind the scenes especially on the big fights.
Eventually Eddie will takeover but there's nothing wrong with mentoring and holding your sons hand in a family business.

Isn't it amazing that we have a young promoter who in the space of 4/5 years has provided this country with a much needed breath of fresh air into British Boxing, and people slate him.
Froch, Degale, Brook, Mitchell, Paul Smith, Bellew, Quigg, Crolla.
Just look at what Eddie has done with the careers of the above in the space of being new to the Promoter business, including the massive show at Wembley Stadium he put on.
I'm confident that the Matchroom business will grow and we will see some cracking fights over the next few years.
