The George Groves Equation
Re: The George Groves Equation
When it comes to Groves the simplest answer is that he is his own worst enemy since he got the first fight with Froch and did as well as he did. Because ever since that fight he has had a serious chip on his shoulder about becoming a world champion and even after Froch beat him fair and square in the second fight he couldn't admit he had a lot to learn and needed to develop more.
granted he has beaten two good European contenders, I mean no offence to either of them when I say this but that's where they are in their careers, European level.
If he comes back down to earth and stops this I deserve a world title idea he has in his head he will get to world level soon, but as he is now he needs to rebuild a solid record behind him, he can take Europe on again and win, unify the British-commonwealth-European titles and defend them well and no-one can deny him his chance at world level.

Re: The George Groves Equation
The problem with groves is that he thinks he beat froch in the 1st fight. So he's got some massive delusion that he is on the same level. The reality is he had a good few rounds against froch but lost (in the second fight absolutely wiped out).
He's had the big Wembley fight and he thinks that's his level. It's not, Groves isn't a PPV fighter like he thinks he is. He needs a massive named opponent and a massive build up to be the big ticket seller.

Re: The George Groves Equation
Degale will out box grovesfor 12 rounds win on points if it happens. Fair play to froch giving up the belt so James can go for it. However I still wish froch would fight someone different chavez and Hopkins r not going to be a challenge for him IMO

Re: The George Groves Equation
Groves seemed to get above his station before the first froch fight so him and booth split then he lost the fight controversially, Hearn boosted his ego even more by putting the second fight at wembley which froch won't easily and his never looked the same again. Howard Foster helped selling out wembley otherwise there's no way them two would of sold out the MEN again

Re: The George Groves Equation
I don't know who's become the most tedious since the second fight Froch or Groves, sick to death of the pair of them.
Re: The George Groves Equation
Groves is boring to listen to now, degale is boring to listen to and froch is boring to listen to. They all repeat the same things.
I haven't seen Anthony Dirrell buy he must be a tough guy to beat cancer then beat bika. Would groves stand a chance, I don't know. He needs to go back and beg Adam booth to train him again as I think he went backwards in froch2 and was scared of that right hand, he looked sluggish against rebrasse and breezed a no mark in douglin.
Why hasn't this gone to purse bids? Surely it's due as groves is mandatory.
Degale is due to fight Andre Dirrell but will he travel over here? Because I don't think he or his brother will. So will that go to purse bids? Or will the ibf make it between someone lower down?
It doesn't matter anyway we will have all 4 versions of the world title in Britain if all goes to plan then they can all fight each oter, smith v groves degale v froch and winner meets winner.
Oh wait smith will get battered by abraham

But a very honest thing to stay, can't stand ANY of them.

No, it is an indication of the type of person they are, the style of their posting which then translates to which one is more appealing the type of person that uses twitter.
It is like a Sun survey and them saying it gives an indication of what the great British public think about a topic when actually it is just an indication of the type of wanker that reads The Sun and has no depth or thought of their own.

Re: The George Groves Equation
All boxers should be banned from Twitter as they usually make themselves and consequently the whole sport look bad (Groves, Fury, Bellew, Woodhouse, Khan prime examples)

Let's just take a look at that again eh...
Froch vs Groves 1 wasn't a wembley fight. Let's see Froch and Degale have a FOTY with a controversial ending and then see if its a wembley fight.
Degale vs Groves could do Wembley...hurray you got one right.
Froch isnt going to fight either so in summary neither Degale or Groves get to fight at Wembley without each other.
You must be trolling with the recent form comments but I'll bite anyway so just for the record Douglins 3 fight streak came against 3 journeymen with 39 losses between them, Peribans 2 losses and draw came against 2 unbeaten fighters and staple SMW hardnut Bika. I don't even rate Periban a particularly good win but there is no comparison to Douglin, nil, none, nada.
Of course I'm forgetting the murderers row Groves fought before froch to earn his shot...oh hang on...
When Froch fought Groves the first time, we were all saying it was a crap fight. Froch was world level, Groves was at best a European level one. Nobody gave Groves even a sniff of a chance against Froch.
Groves surprised a lot of people, myself included, with his performance in the early rounds. But lets not kid ourself. After the best Groves had to give, Froch was still in the fight and was slowly turning it around. The stoppage would've come in the next round or two anyway.
The early stoppage was the best thing to happen to Groves. The rematch was built on hype. And what was previously a routine fight, was no a mega-match that sold out 80,000 people at Wembley. If Groves had been stopped legitimately, and he would have been, his world title credentials wouldn't even be being discussed now.

Re: The George Groves Equation
Groves hasn't looked the same fighter since splitting with Booth. I think that unless he gets a proper trainer he'll never hit the heights that he potentially could.
In terms of a ticket seller, he is one, without question, but he needs a mega fight to do stadium fights obviously. He's a far bigger draw than DeGale but not quite as big as Froch.
Simples.

I have to disagree. I honestly can't think of a fight card that he has headlined on his own which has sold well.Happy Slapper wrote:Groves hasn't looked the same fighter since splitting with Booth. I think that unless he gets a proper trainer he'll never hit the heights that he potentially could.

By that, i mean opponents where he is an overwhelming favourite to win. E.g. Froch against Mack, Calzaghe against most of his WBO defences etc. Josh Warrington and probably even Buglioni would probably shift more tickets for a mediocre fight than Groves would.
I don't think he has a hardcore fanbase.
Re: The George Groves Equation
Twitter was great a few years ago, it allowed people to essentially text-message celebs without knowing their private number.
But as people have gone from 50k of followers to 300-500k of followers, it's just become a wall of noise.
Let's be honest, there is only so much that can be said with 140-characters, and with that many followers, every single thing that could be possibly said, has already been said by someone before you probably.
As those follower-numbers swell exponentially, we are heading into Émile Borel territory.
He created the "infinite monkey" theory, a mathematical notion that an infinite number of monkeys, with an infinite number of typewriters and an infinite amount of time - would eventually write the works of Shakespeare. That's approximately 840,000 words in correct sequence (all his plays added together).
Thus I have a theorem of my own, called the "Infinite Arselickers and Infinite Trolls" theory.
I believe that half a million boxing morons armed with a smart phone, can come up with every single boxing-related paragraph in 140 characters or less, in just 3 years between them.
"Sign the contract Floyd! #Ducker" yawn.
Because of this, twitter is already going stale. It's not a forum for true debate and just a tool to link to this, slag off that. The sharing of information on twitter (as opposed to hearsay) when it comes to boxing, is getting tedious fast.
A proper website, with proper fans whom have gone to seek it out and join up - separates the lazy oiks from the proper fans of the sport. I think Twitter has reached it's ceiling of usefulness in boxing.

The amount of clueless idiots who haven't got a good word to say about anyone or anything on Twitter is scary. Same can be said for YouTube.G0mez wrote:Twitter was great a few years ago, it allowed people to essentially text-message celebs without knowing their private number.

Re: The George Groves Equation
I liked groves as a fighter. Got a lot of respect for the way he promoted the Froch rematch.
But I cringed my way through his interview with bunce on that podcast. Horrible.
His best win since Degale remains a shot Glen Johnson. He participated in our best british feud for some time, but he couldn't get it done first time, and then got knocked the fornicate out the second.
Him and degale at the O2 will be good. Or he can show us those first few rounds against Froch weren't a flash in the pan, that he does have a decent gas tank, and get a decision over anthony Dirrell.
Until then, I hope he shuts the fornicate up.

Re: The George Groves Equation
Groves latest spat with Eddie will be over the same issue as before. Eddie can make DeGale vs Groves in April for the IBF title but he will want options on Groves, should George win. George will not want to agree to that.
