Can't see Hopkins having any interest in coming to Nottingham tbh. It would also be a very hard sell for PPV, Hopkins isn't much of a draw at the best of times, never mind at 50 years old & coming off such a one-sided loss.

Ward is tied up in legal battles with his own team - couldn't draw flies to shit in his hometown, and won't travel anywhere to fight. It's just not feasible.LivingWithDixon wrote:So far Froch has chased, a fight with Chavez, who's not actually that good (he was struggling with Brian Vera last year) a 'rubber match' with Kessler, who's shot and semi retired, now Hopkins a 50 year old bloke who's coming off career ending pasting.
BUT not once (NOT ONCE) has he shown any interest (as his did with Kessler) in avenging the Andre Ward loss.
Beating Ward, now THAT'S the way to end his career.

His former promoter is dead and I think he sold out in his hometown in every fight in the Super Six.
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
He should fight the fight the fans really want to see: Golovkin either in Vegas, Nottingham or anywhere else for that matter!

He should fight Chavez or pack in. He's had a great career, Hopkins is a terrible fight for so many reasons.

But Eddie Hearns says different so the facts must be wrong!

2,000 in Vegas or 30,000 in Nottingham?ste1983 wrote:But I thought this boys dream was to fight in vegasTaansend wrote:Hopkins would talk a good fight and sell the place out.
Looks like Froch sees it as a perfect end to his career. A win over a legend at his football clubs stadium. Every boys dream.
Froch isn't a name over here. He could fight Susan Boyle in Nottingham and would still sell out.
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
Froch wants one easy fight to retire on, it's fairly obvious now and nobody can blame him. Hopkins is a big name but it really would be a bad fight to go out on.
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
Terrible terrible move if this is true, I cant see froch getting a stoppage against hopkins and a scrappy win against a 50 year old coming off a beatdown means nothing, not to mention theres a chance he loses this fight infront of a huge home crowd.
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
It would be a horrible messy fight, but I think Hopkins would beat him so I wouldn't mind seeing it.mickey1975 wrote:He should fight Chavez or pack in. He's had a great career, Hopkins is a terrible fight for so many reasons.

Tyson did fight twice here, I remember him not being allowed in too, why was he allowed to fight here in 2000 but rejected years later?mickey1975 wrote:Will Hopkins be allowed in? Tyson wasn't.

Government changed the criteria for a visa, quite rightly too, nightmare for anyone who's been inside before to get into the US, so it should be the same for them coming here.SNG wrote:Tyson did fight twice here, I remember him not being allowed in too, why was he allowed to fight here in 2000 but rejected years later?mickey1975 wrote:Will Hopkins be allowed in? It's a nothing to gain fight. Win looking bad or lose to a guy that just got clearly beat. Potentially losing to a 50 year old who your predecessor as best british super middle beat some 6 years ago.
For me Froch either goes out trying to avenge his only loss or retires.

If this is made, will it be up at Light Heavyweight or will Carl be defending his WBA Super Middleweight title?
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
Froch won't fight at light-heavyweight. He would be giving to much away come the fight.

Hopkins already recently said he was going back down to super middle i think, before froch even mentioned this fight.samwbr wrote:Froch won't fight at light-heavyweight. He would be giving to much away come the fight.
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
He still wouldn't do it. He walks around not much over 168, he wouldn't carry enough up to the weight, why give any advantage that he can't equal. Its why any calls for him to fight Kovalev are pointless, he would be way way lighter at the first bell.Boxerbeetle wrote:To Hopkins??? Doubt it.samwbr wrote:Froch won't fight at light-heavyweight. If he ever gets his 'dream' fight with Chavez he'll be giving way 15lbs or more.
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
to be perfectly honest, I think the days of losing to "old man Hopkins" being an embarrassment have been gone for quite a while. I think Carl's at a stage now where it doesn't really matter if he loses a fight or two - not that I'm saying he would. He's going down as one of Britain's best ever, who fought all-comers.Stuarty30 wrote:I really hope this is just gossip. I like Froch because of his all action style. The hopkins fight would be a hiding to nothing. If he wins: So what he's 50 and Kovalev schooled him. If he loses then he's just been beaten by a 50 year old. Hopkins style would cause Froch problems even at 50. I would back Froch all day to get the W but there are better fights out there for him.
Personally, I would like to see Carl retire now. It makes no sense to risk all he has - family & health - to be going getting smacked in the mush by the likes of Chavez Jr. for 12 rounds. (I don't know who'd win as I've not seen Chavez fight, but I suspect he must have filled out into something like his prime by now).

IF he fights (and beats) Hopkins will Roy Jones be next?
Re: Froch asking for big City ground summer bout with B-Hop
Ultimately, every fighter wants to get rich. And the quickest way to do that is to fight in Vegas. It's not really a fight if it's not in Vegas. :)
