Julio Cesar Chavez v Kostya Tzuyu
They fought at Light-Welter and their careers overlapped. Who do you have winning this one?
Re: Julio Cesar Chavez v Kostya Tzuyu
Both in their prime at light welter I think Chavez on points in a bout he gets hit hard and often. Hatton put Kostya into confusion and panic with his pressure, I feel Chavez was a better pressure fighter than Ricky and had better placement of his body punches. It wouldn't have been a bout for the faint hearted, in his prime though Chavez didn't cut, didn't mark up and kept up the heat like a thermostat.

I just got done watching this fight, though I had seen it about 4 or 5 times beforehand. I think Tszyu took it sort of easy on Chavez until the last two rounds.
Prime-for-prime I think this would have been a helluva bout. Chavez was susceptible to straight right hands and there wasn't one better at 140 than Tszyu's. Kostya's ability to hurt Chavez at any moment is something which gives him a good chance of pulling this out. Chavez, however, was a great pressure fighter and Tszyu succumbed to two of them. I think most would say that Chavez wears him down and either wins a UD or stops him late. I'll agree with that, but again, with Tszyu's quick hands and power, the result could go the either way.

This is just that sort of matchup of styles that goes against the odds. JCC should win, but I'd bet against him because I think Kostya has exactly the sort of style that turns these odds around 4 out of 5 times. Just enough power to dim and dampen the relentless JCC. JCC's willingness to exchange would likely work against him. I think the Hatton fight was a bit of a fluke combined with Kostya aging out.
Kostya's power at that weight during his peak is just amazing. And always gives him a punchers chance.. It would always be a good fight.

No one has a puncher's chance against a prime Chavez. Tszyu would nake this a great fight, he'd get the better of many of the exchanges and might even be ahead, but I think around the 10th rd, Chavez breaks him down and stops him. Phillips and Hurtado proved a prime Tszyu could be hurt.

I think Tszyu would always be far too big for Chavez. He was a fricking middleweight by the time he got in the ring. Chavez... Wasn't.
I know they fought (never ever watched it, sad money-grabbing last hurrahs are not my cup of tea, thanks) but would never meet in their respective primes despite the illusory effects of one dude's career being so long he ended up fighting in two eras. Chavez was a ten stoner from the "day-before weigh-in rule" era, & Tszyu probably couldn't make welter without dehydrating himself into a prune if he had to weigh in on the day.

I believe Chavez handles Tzuyu's power a lot better than Tzuyu handles JC's body attack. Chavez TKO 8 or 9
