Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Saunders steps aside so Lee can fight Quillin.
I dont like Lee's chances here. Then again I thought that against Korobov. I still think Korobov beat himself in that fight by getting sloppy for a split second. Unlike Korobov, I suspect and expect Quillin can and will hurt Lee.

Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Andy is one of these guys I rarely like his chances in the fight at this sorta level, but he keeps winning even when you think he can't win. Obviously Peter is the favorite & I doubt anything will make me wanna do anything cept for make him my pick, BUT Andy Lee can KTFO of just about anyone with that one right punch. Should be a fun fight to watch just to see what happens to Peter when/if Andy hits him.
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Ironic thing is Lee's last 2 KO's came after he got hit with the biggest punch of the night for his opponent. Jackson hammered him and he staggered back into the ropes, then landed a hail mary as Jackson was lunging in for the kill. Fight over.
Against Korobov, Matt fought a very measured, tactical fight. Finally he landed something hard and got over excited, causing him to lunge forward and attempt a follow up assault for the first time in the fight.....BANG, right hand. Fight over.
If fighters are going to watch the tape of Lee they might deduce they are better off sticking to a gameplan against him and not diverting from it. Which means not overextending in flurries where you may leave yourself open for the perfect counter. Box, use your better skills, your speed, dont get too excited, keep defense as a priority, leave the 3-4-5 punch combos in the dresser. 1, 1-2, move, reset.

Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Hard to call Quillin hasn't looked himself the past couple years
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
What exactly is "himself"?
Other than the Rosado fight, when has Quillin not looked good?

Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
By the standards I use to judge a guy who is arguably a division's #2 I don't think he looked good against Konency, Rosado, or Wright, and even against N'dam I thought he lost most of the rounds. He's gotten the results to justify a high ranking and I suspect that he'll beat Lee, whose power I consider a bit overrated in light of the recent stoppages, but he's never shined in my opinion.

If there's anything overrated about Lee, it's definitely not his power!crusader wrote:By the standards I use to judge a guy who is arguably a division's #2 I don't think he looked good against Konency, Rosado, or Wright, and even against N'dam I thought he lost most of the rounds. Why?
Not even a year ago a journeyman who had been stopped a few months earlier seemed to have few problems with his power, about a year before that an even lower level opponent who was just knocked out in one round took him to a decision without being notably hurt, and aside from Korobov, who looked to be hurt as badly against Derek Edwards but was arguably saved by the bell in a highly similar scenario the year before, he hasn't suddenly turned a fight with one shot or shown a very impressive display of power against someone who is at least a contender. Now he's often depicted as some type of murderous puncher based on his last two wins, but I think it's far more appropriate to consider him merely a good puncher.

good fight.....hope winner faces ggg
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Journeymen are a different story, Lee gets you on the counter. As you know, journeymen don't lead often and usually do a good job of covering up. Definitely not GGG/Lemieux power but still pretty scary 1 punch KO ability.crusader wrote:Why?

Okay, but he didn't seem to hurt Brian Vera more easily than people like Chavez (heavy handed but not a particularly big puncher), Kirkland (see Chavez), and Codrington (admittedly I think this result was anomalous) did, and it was an accumulation that stopped a fading McEwan. Even in the Korobov fight the latter was still on his feet and looked fairly clear headed upon returning to his corner, and I think there's a good chance he would've prolonged the bout had he reacted more intelligently by holding or taking a knee, but as he did when he was badly shaken by Edwards he largely stood in place covering up. If you haven't seen Korobov's bout with Edwards I advise you to watch the last forty seconds or so of the first round as it's extremely similar to the ending of the Lee fight; Korobov rocks Edwards, gets careless in his attempt to finish, gets hit with a right hook, and dips very much like he did against Lee, though Edwards doesn't produce the type of follow-up that Lee did.

No doubt Lee is a good puncher, but he's not someone I'd call a scary puncher.

Hadn't seen that before to be honest. Clubber Lang he is not but Andy is a class tough & I always root for him
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Lee is a really nice guy. He's a better guy than he is fighter. And he's a good fighter too.
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
I'd be surpised slow Andy Lee beats PQ but it's not like Quillin isn't suspect or ripe for an asswhuppin anytime soon. I was hoping to see PQ get mopped by 3G but I guess PQ doesn't have enough b@ll$ to do that yet.
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Lee is a good counter-puncher, but not so good fighting as #1, the same way as Korobov. That explains why both of them have had problems with defensive minded journeymen. Lee needs to be patient, and Quillin could end stopped the same way as Andy's previous two opponents.
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Match is ok.
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Why did quillin give the title up and now is fighting for it again?
Re: Quillin vs Andy Lee is ON
Quillin was outboxed in both decent level fights he was involved in. His power and a bit of luck got him through both times. Lee has problem with fast technicians. But Quillin is slow and is the opposite of technician. Lee hits harder and is an improving fighter. While Quillin mentally destroyed himself. Therefore I expect Quillin to get his well deserved pasting and get laid out flat on his back.
