How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Dillian Whyte KO'd Marcelo Luiz Nascimento in 2 rounds last night to move to 12 (10)-0-0. It took Tyson Fury 5 rounds, Manuel Charr 8 rounds and he took Eddie Chambers to points over 8 rounds last time out. He holds a win against Anthony Joshua in the amateurs too.
He looks sharper every time I see him after his ban. He looks a little cumbersome at times but have we got a heavyweight here in the shadow of Joshua who could possibly be in the top class in the next 18 months or so?
Thoughts?

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Hard to say. Seen so many with potential crash and burn over the years. He certainly has the tools and the physical gifts to be at least a contender but as we all know with boxing things can take a long time to go right, and a very short time to go wrong.
One of his problems-and one all fighters have in the modern age is a lack of profile with the general public. Joe Public and the networks will pay to watch Joshua fight because of his Olympic success, but Dillian Whyte? So it may be a tough sell to get the right opponents for him to get the experience he needs.

I like him, definitely seems to have the fighter's mentality in the ring.
Whilst he's on the short side for a heavyweight nowadays, he looks to have seriously long arms.

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
They won't risk ruining the image they have created with AJ by putting him in with Dillian. As some people of said he is the elephant in the room, he would probably get under AJ's skin and make him lose his cool.
Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Dillian has power and dedication although I would like to see him half a stone lighter. But he still looks raw even after a few years as a pro this lack of skills will mean he won't reach the very top in my opinion he could well end up winning a European title though. I hope I am wrong though and he goes all the way. Soft stoppage against Nasciemento sadly.

Definitely one to watch... Could be the dark horse of the UK's heavyweights!

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
If his marketed properly, his win over AJ is exposed a bit more and the reason why he was banned i.e. he wasn't banned for taking roids then I think he could be a big name in a couple of years.

He dropped him in the first with a left hook and then lowered the boom with a big right early in the second.
An impressive, commanding performance.

Also, without a promotional powerhouse behind him he could find himself being matched a lot harder, which in theory isn't a bad thing, but could cause him a few slip ups.
Wouldn't be suprised to see him in with Gary Cornish or Ian Lewison soon.

I like him
Was due to go watch him last night but after an all dayer at the north london derby i swerved it
Only a matter of time before a bigger promoter picks him up imo
Not saying he'll be a world beater but he can definitely get to the fringes, than who knows

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
I'm not saying its right, but AJ is currently operating on a different level - not necessarily in terms of quality, but in marketability. He has absolutely nothing to gain from fighting Whyte and everything to lose. It's up to Whyte to force himself onto the world scene by upping the quality of his opposition.TerribleTerry wrote:He dropped him in the first with a left hook and then lowered the boom with a big right early in the second.

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Would Matchroom sign him to keep a future Joshua fight in-house?
Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
It's the first I have seen of him in that fight against Nascimento.
A very good win and he definitely has potential but he does look raw.
Very hard to look too much into a second round knockout how good a fighter is or could be.

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Chisora's level at most!
Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Whyte has more pop, more speed and more variety than Chisora. We don't know if he's as game and durable yet.

Haven't seen much of Whyte either, but based on the video above - solid footwork+moves very well for his size, parries nicely+composed when shots come his way, good balance, natural fluid upper body movement, and the 3 knockdown punches were clean, well picked shots with excellent technique.
Cannot see how you'd describe him as 'raw' in any way after that performance??

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Hard to say, for some of the reasons already given.
I suspect he and whatever promoter he teams up with, will go with the Joshua amateur fight angle ( although its certainly not all it seems, my understanding is Whyte was masquerading as a novice at the time and I think he may have got in to a bit of bother over it, not 100% sure ) which would be a smart move.
If I were a promoter I would certainly be looking at getting him on board.
From what I have seen of him I like him. Seems a nice bloke too, has a bit about him. Looking forwad to seeing how he progresses

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Raw maybe a poor choice of words but he looks as if he could throw the jab more and work off that. But hard to criticize too much as he has finished off a seasoned heavyweight within two rounds.arlovski wrote:MrJasonM wrote:It's the first I have seen of him in that fight against Nascimento.

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
So you saying he is world champion level ? As chisora was British and European champ so I think he is not going any further than that. Even with his "MORE POP, SPEED AND VARIETY"?Sklar wrote:Whyte has more pop, more speed and more variety than Chisora. We don't know if he's as game and durable yet.

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
depends what happens when he gets hit on the chin.
I've seen heavyweights with all the skills going, and get no where because their chin lets them down

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
There's a good interview of Dillian prior to that Nascimiento fight.
He was explaining that he refused promotional offers as he was focusing on his comeback and that promoters could not guarantee fights in quick succession.

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
I think he's going to continue to improve and hopefully his weight will come down too. 2 years is a long time to be out of the ring and although he was in training during that time, it was haphazard and understandably had lulls in motivation. He isn't exactly a youngster but at 26 as a heavyweight, he's got plenty of time to keep improving and the fundamentals are there.
As already mentioned, although he's not the tallest guy out there, he has very long arms (longer reach than Joshua it would appear) and I'm excited to see how far he can go. He needs round badly though and it will be tough to get them without paying a lot for an opponent and stepping up in class significantly.

Re: How far can Dillian Whyte go?
Too many unknowns to be sure yet, but he looks like he has potential to be better than Chisora. He's got plenty to learn, but he's still developing and improving, and Chisora has started going backwards. He ought to be an easy promote; he's exciting, powerful, distinctive looking with a memorable name. I'm surprised nobody is working him hard as the Joshua alternative.
