Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Surely a very fair question to raise. He has never beaten a reigning world champion for a recognized world title.
Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
You are the ultimate Mundine hater! He has only ever fought 1 elite fighter, and that was Kessler. I personally think that was his best fight, even though he lost.bash for cash wrote:Surely a very fair question to raise. He has never beaten a reigning world champion for a recognized world title.
Now ask yourself that same question about your bf Danny Green? Who has never even fought an elite fighter. The closest to elite he ether fought was Mundine, and Mundine wiped the floor with him!

1 That you would be the first to respond because you love talking about Mundine so much. In fact in the other Mundine thread there are 58 posts and 25 of them are yours
2 That you would mention Green in your response. It was inevitable because being a Mundine nuthugger you just know no other way

Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Mundine's best win is generally regarded as being against Danny Green about 10 years ago.
Is Danny Green elite level? Probably not. But I don't think Mundine is either and history will probably place them at a similar level.

I agree with the best win being against Green. History will show that neither were ever elite. But it will also show - for arguments sake - that Mundine wiped the floor with Green.Like a Boss wrote:Mundine's best win is generally regarded as being against Danny Green about 10 years ago.

Seems we are in agreement. Though I'm not sure why you felt the compulsion to add the last bit. Looks like we are all in agreement Mundine has never beaten an elite level opponent
Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Hard not to agree with that.
If someone says he did beat an elite opponent he's going to have to provide the name of said defeated elite level opponent.
Mundine's best wins imo
Danny Green - UD 12
Daniele Geale - SD 12
Sam Soliman - SD 12, KO 9, UD 12(particularly the second two, the judges were kind to The Man the first time)
Sergey Rabchenko - SD 12
Shane Mosley - TKO 7
Not bad but certainly not great and I don't see a win over an elite opponent there.
Mosley obviously the biggest name but he was 42-years-old, in the final fight of his career and had just one win in final 6 fights.
I think most people would agree that elite level boxers win more than one time in 6 fights.
imo, Green was his biggest win/biggest fight, but Geale was the best opponent defeated(I know some people think the Geale decision was wrong but I think the judges got it right)

Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Please name the "elite" opponents he could've fought from SMW down to LMW? SMW - Kessler, Clazaghe. Middlewieght - Martinez (and don't go saying GGG, because he was barely known when Mundine was classed as a middleweight), LMW - Mayweather, Cotto, Alvarez.bash for cash wrote:Looks like we are all in agreement Mundine has never beaten an elite level opponent
He fought Kessler and lost. Couldn't get a fight with Calzaghe. Couldn't get a fight with Martinez. And is actively trying to get fights with the 3 LMW's I have named.
So, the truth be known. He may not have beaten an elite fighter. Yet, there has only - IMO - been 6 in his career anyway.
So your thread is pretty pathetic. Almost childish.

Good point about Geale. He was a real talent when they first met. But by the time they met the second time Geale had improved and Mundine had probably gone the other way. Good postPerseus wrote:Hard not to agree with that.

Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Rabchenko stills considers himself at elite level and continues to beat the drum about Mundine ignoring a rematch:

Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
I said it before the Rabchenko vs Mundine fight, and people called me an idiot. Rabchenko has got ONE strength, and that is he has heavy hands. Crap technique, very sloppy, and not exactly quick. He had never fought a true world class fighter like Mundine, and the way Mundine boxed his ears off for most of the fight showed that.Beltane wrote:Rabchenko stills considers himself at elite level and continues to beat the drum about Mundine ignoring a rematch:

Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
I too agree that Mundine had not changed much at all for their second fight, and he got a deserved beating because of this. I would like to see them have a 3rd fight, and Mundine to retain Chris McCullen in his corner. McCullen is a great trainer that brings out the offense in almost every fighter he trains.bash for cash wrote:Good point about Geale. He was a real talent when they first met. Mundine vs Rabchenko was a good fight. Rabchenko was a very good body puncher. But his one twos to the head were mostly powerless and that really surprised me.Beltane wrote:Rabchenko stills considers himself at elite level and continues to beat the drum about Mundine ignoring a rematch:

Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Mundine couldn't get fights with the elites because he wasn't willing to step up in the first place, if he had of fought the likes of trout and GGG and won, those opportunities would have presented themselvesLairdy wrote:Please name the "elite" opponents he could've fought from SMW down to LMW? Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Unfortunately for Mundine, he may have left it too late to get these big fights because he has put $$$ first for too long. He only has himself to blame. He could've been an Australian great. Yet history will show that he was just a world class fighter.Pureist wrote:Mundine couldn't get fights with the elites because he wasn't willing to step up in the first place, if he had of fought the likes of trout and GGG and won, those opportunities would have presented themselvesLairdy wrote:Please name the "elite" opponents he could've fought from SMW down to LMW? Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Not fighting Trout was yet another example of Mundine choosing the easy fork in the road instead of the harder one that could reap more benefit career wise and perhaps even legacy wise.Pureist wrote:Mundine couldn't get fights with the elites because he wasn't willing to step up in the first place, if he had of fought the likes of trout and GGG and won, those opportunities would have presented themselvesLairdy wrote:Please name the "elite" opponents he could've fought from SMW down to LMW? If he had accepted the challenge to fight Trout the WBA title was on offer and if he'd won that it would have been just the bargaining chip he needed to actually call some shots at the very top level. Instead he fought the farce against McKart and then had to go after Geale in the quest for a a title. I think even he knew Geale was going to be too good and that's the way it panned out.

Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
Is your "caps lock" broken, if not, so why all the shouting?
Re: Has Mundine ever beaten an elite level opponent?
His caps lock isn't broken, he bumped it by accident but doesn't know how to turn it off.
Don't tell him how to turn caps off, let's see how long it takes him to figure it out.
He'll show up to claim he knows how to turn them on and off, just humor him.
