Jordan Shimmell 18-0 with 15 KOs, world rated cruiserweight
Re: Jordan Shimmell 18-0 with 15 KOs, world rated cruiserwei
Jordan has done everything he was supposed to do in his 18 pro fights. He has won all of them easily without taking punishment. He has been in the ring sparring with world champions, he is definitely in that class. It just takes time to show the world. Be ready for his skills to be on display on a TV near you in the near future.

Jordan is definitely a "Michigan" boxer in my eyes. He won 7(?) Michigan GG titles ffs. You obviously know better than me, but it sounds like while he wasn't born in Michigan he spent his formative years in MI. He's even had a large percentage of his pro fights in MI. Being in Michigan long enough to win that many GG titles definitely gets you on my Michigan boxer list.Dennis wrote: Jordan trained and boxed in MI. He has also trained and boxed in many other places. He lives in the GR, MI area and has since he was a little boy. However, he was born in Sheboygan, WI and lived in Columbus, OH for 3 years. Is he a MI boxer? Floyd hasn't lived in GR, MI for many years but he is definitely a product of GR. He was born and raised there. A lot of his family and longtime friends live in the area. He started boxing there and won an Olympic bronze while training mostly there. Is he a MI boxer?
Floyd is definitely a "Michigan" boxer. Floyd came up in the Michigan amateur boxing system too. He won 3 Michigan golden gloves titles. He was born & raised in Michigan as you mentioned.
For me, & this is obviously for me as mentioned previously, its not an exact resume that makes you a Michigan boxer. But for the most part for me they need to have either been born in Michigan or not but had most of their pro or amateur career take place in Michigan. Thats why Peter doesn't qualify in my book, Alvin Manley is on the fence & Jordan & Floyd are definitely Michigan boxers.

home town decision for Porter if your being fairDennis wrote:In regard to Usyk, he is a good fighter. I'm looking forward to he and Jordan fighting at some point. It just won't be in Ukraine. BTW, I remember watching Usyk lose to my friend Shawn Porter in late 2006 in an amateur dual, USA vs Ukraine.
i also remember Jordan losing to Anderson Emanuel in 2011 and getting beat by the Russian 4 string boxer Lokaychuk 8-4 in 2011
why not Ukraine btw? Usyk is the bigger draw and it is where the fight would make the most money? is Jordan afraid to travel
considering all the top cruiserweights are from Europe his going to have to travel if he wants to get anywhere
Re: Jordan Shimmell 18-0 with 15 KOs, world rated cruiserwei
Porter won fair and square. I was there and watched the bout with my own 2 eyes.tflanagan5 wrote:home town decision for Porter if your being fairDennis wrote:In regard to Usyk, he is a good fighter. Jordan had food poisoning before the Emanual bout and still only lost by 1 point. Regarding the Lokaychuk bout, Jordan had just defeated Russia's higher ranked boxer Nurmagomedov and was one of many U.S. boxers to have their bouts scored questionably in the semi-finals of the tourney. During the fight, Jordan lands a punch and Lokaychuk receives a point. It was very questionable scoring!!!
Jordan always had more of a pro style than an amateur style even though we tried to adapt his style to the amateur scoring system. He is a very good body puncher and body punches rarely gave amateur boxers points in the old computerized/electronic scoring system. Jordan has also improved by leaps and bounds during his 2+ years as a pro.
When Jordan is boxing on network TV in the US, we will see where the big fights take place.

it's easy to look like you have improved leaps and bounds when you go from having to fight decent amateurs to bums and journeymen. I just want to see him face someone at least half decent
being on network tv means very little, Usyk is the a-side and all the best cruiserweights are in Europe and they don't like to travel lets be fair. Only way they will come to the US is if you guys win purse bids against them if you get a mandatory and i think roc nation win that purse bid if it ever happens
Re: Jordan Shimmell 18-0 with 15 KOs, world rated cruiserwei
Do you also remember Usyk becoming world champ in 2011 and Olympic champ in 2012?Dennis wrote:In regard to Usyk, he is a good fighter. I'm looking forward to he and Jordan fighting at some point. Jordan seems like a promising fighter and I hope to see him step up soon.
Re: Jordan Shimmell 18-0 with 15 KOs, world rated cruiserwei
There are a lot of cruiserweights who either live or train in the U.S. and others who have or want to fight in the U.S. Getting boxers to fight in the U.S. on a big stage isn't that difficult. I look forward to what lies ahead for Jordan in 2015.
Re: Jordan Shimmell 18-0 with 15 KOs, world rated cruiserwei
At the time Jordan beat Nurmagomedov, he was the #2 Russian behind the Artur Beterbiyev and was ranked #5 in the world. Beterbiyev was #3 in the world behind Usyk & Russo.
As far as Jordan improving, he was in the ring sparring with Chad Dawson back when Chad was World Champ and before the Diaconu fight. I saw that sparring session and Emanuel Steward did not have Jordan spar Chad a second time because of it. Jordan has also sparred as a southpaw against Adonis Stevenson, Andrzej Fonfara and Wladimir Klitschko. Jordan is a naturally right-handed, orthodox fighter but is skilled enough to be in the ring from the opposite stance against some of the best boxers in the world. Jordan also helped friend Anthony Dirrell prepare for his World Championship victory over Bika. Soon Jordan will display those skills on TV.

ok i know your trying to make your son look good and all but Nurmagomedov was never ranked at all in the world because he never won a point scoring tournament with AIBA so how you make out he was 5th in the world is beyond me. Look seem to be knowledgeable when defending your son in this argument so i don't know how you over looked that, the guy couldn't get past the russian quarter finals in 2012

Michael Smith has a World Amateur Boxing Ranking System. Nurmagomedov was ranked #5 in the world in those rankings.
Yes the 4 current cruiserweight champs have not fought in the U.S. It doesn't mean they wouldn't want to if given the chance, especially if it is on major TV network. Wlodarczyk fought in the U.S. three times (the last time in the U.S. he defended his WBC World Title) and I don't believe any were even on TV. Mchunu, a South African boxer, has fought his last 3 bouts in the USA on NBC TV. I'm sure other cruiserweights will jump at the chance to box on TV in the USA.

Boxers who have shown a propensity to fight in the USA:
Beibut Shumenov
BJ Flores
Ola Afolabi
Thabiso Mchunu
Krzysztof Wlodarczyk
Olanrewaju Durodola
Rakhim Chakhkiev
Tony Bellew (Canada - close enough LOL)
Youri Kalenga (Again Canada - close enough)
Edwin Rodriguez
Yunier Dorticos
Murat Gassiev
Nathan Cleverly
Mateusz Masternak
Mairis Briedis
Lukasz Janik
Dmytro Kucher
Pawel Kolodziej
Plus all of the other cruiserweights who live in the U.S.
That is the vast majority of top cruiserweight contenders who have been willing to box in the USA. I'm sure even more will follow with all of the TV deals for boxing in the USA for 2015 and beyond.

if given the chance they will demand truck loads of money to come and the fight is worth more money in Europe, isn't the challenger meant to travel anyway? is Jordan another american boxer afraid to leave his home country?

You will see Jordan boxing someone on that list in his next fight or two. Jordan - afraid to travel? NO, but why travel if we don't have to.

who? well when 95% of the top fighters in your division are on a different continent and so are all the champions there is a need to travelDennis wrote:You will see Jordan boxing someone on that list in his next fight or two. Jordan - afraid to travel? NO, but why travel if we don't have to.

Klitschko is coming to America again. He has wanted to fight here more, but the TV networks didn't appear to want his fights. If the HW champ of the world wants to fight in the USA, I'm willing to bet many others are too.

Wlad fighting here because he is getting paids tons of money, tens of millions. Are your team going to do the same to bring the champions over here?Dennis wrote:Klitschko is coming to America again. There aren't any cruiserweight champs making close to what Wlad earns. So it won't take millions to get them here. Just remember the "Field of Dreams" saying "If you build it, he will come". Haymon is building it in the USA so the champ will come here.

You've made it clear that you would rather have him take safe fights with bums forever than actually take a risk going overseas to challenge anybody.

sometimes there good but other times there ridiculous, one time his middleweight rankings had 4 russians(2 of them never fought in an international tournament) in the top 5 and a french guy who has never been to a major tournament at number 1, while the current world champion wasn't in the top 5 of anthony fowler world bronze medalist and brilliant fighter
Re: Jordan Shimmell 18-0 with 15 KOs, world rated cruiserwei
Reggie - you can contact Michael Smith and get on his email list to receive his rankings. In the past they were posted on a couple websites with links posted on BoxRec. If somebody wants to do that again, it would be nice. Even set up a Facebook page that just lists his rankings each month.
