I'm not saying he fought cotto in his prime, I'm asking the question.

Your response about Margarito is either arrogant or you're missing the point. All I'm asking is if you or others think Margarito was the better fight than de la hoya, hatton, marquez, mosley?

It's easy to slag off a fighters record, especially one we don't like but apart from Pacquiao, people aren't going to really be saying that he should have fought anyone else. Did he get as much advantage as possible with timings and weight, yes he did but as he brought big money to the table he had the power to negotiate in his favour.

He could have fought them all as well as Cotto and Marg instead of taking time off in 2008 and most of 2009, instead he waited for them to fight each other then came back to fight JMM (at a catch weight and went in overweight)
I'm a big fan but he has timed his career brilliantly. Not doubt he is one of the greats though.

Ok, i will answer, no he did not fight Cotto in his prime.

No arrogance on my part and there's nothing i'm missing. He should have fought Margarito, Cotto and Williams around 2006/2007/2008, a time when they were all fighting each other for supremecy - as always Mayweather was simply claiming it when he should have been proving It. He fought Judah who was coming off a terrible loss to Baldomir the plodder, then he fought the plodder himself, props for fighting De La Hoya but he was not impressive, then he dragged Hatton up to 147, decent oponent but not the threat of a Cotto, Margarito or Williams. His 2 year hiatus from boxing came at a time when he should have fought all three. Coincidence? Maybe.

PS. dont get me started on his comeback fights with Marquez and Mosley!
