He was a good fighter and he didn't turn up to a bout with Jon Jo Irwin at the Dome (that's what was reported) - Colin McCauley went home and got his shorts and gum shield and got in with Jon Jo; Miguel boxed Jon Jo not long after.

It might have been Eurosport, Craig; I don't think Miguel would have boxed on ESPN - an american channel.

I phoned Steve Holdsworth up once to to get a video of a fight (yep years ago). Be prepared for a long conversation, haha fair play to him, by the end of it even though my ears were ringing I felt a little disappointed once the conversation had finished. I'd love to have a beer with the guy.

There's a very good documentary on youtube titled "Backyard of boxing".
It was made in the late 90s and is basically about the journeyman side of the sport, with the focus being on the fighters from South Wales.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j88aQ0ZG9fY

Documentary starts at 43 mins
Section on Miguel Matthews from 57:15.

The documentary can also be found on youtube in 5 parts. This has the commentary on it, but the audio is not very good.

PS Robert Peel is a dead ringer for Jon Thaxton imo.
