Thoughts on Wlad if he beats Jennings then immediately retires? I have little doubt he'd get in, but I feel that some people here wouldn't want to see that.
Re: Tossing Out Names : Do They Belong In The IBHOF ?
Both Klitschko's are getting in, I don't have the slightest doubt, and the naysayers will sound pretty ridiculous if they have any arguments left.

Wlad wouldn't make my top 25 HWs of all time but clearly he's earned his spot in the HOF. Almost a decade at the top gets you that.

I think you could make an argument for any of them; however none should be a shoe in. John had the big win over Marquez which really helps his cause.Seamus wrote:To make it more interesting I'll try to limit to 5 at a time. Feel free to add names.

Wonjongkam should be a lock. 90 wins and 5 losses in an era where few top fighters reach 60 wins anymore. 22-2-2 in world title fights. And Chris John, only loss in his 52nd bout at age 34, but was 15-1-3 in title fights over 2 weight divisions. In fairness though, he may have gotten an unfair decision against Marquez. Never scored it but it looked like he lost from what I remember.

Would definitely not include John. Was essentially a regional champion with the one big win over Marquez that many believe he lost. Then his two wins over perennial loser Rocky Juarez (what other guy got so many undeserved big fights?) in which he almost got KO'd in both.
Wongjongkam would get my vote. Consistently faced and defeated many more quality challengers than John.

I'll say yes to Eubank because he's a character and just for the acceptance speech he'd come up with.Seamus wrote:Next 5

Some interesting names. Fox and Flanagan have some good scalps, but overall I just don't think they quite deserve it. Eubank and Lytell are in with dozens of other fighters who were obviously good but not great.
Actually surprising that Arcari isn't in, though not sure if he deserves it. The numbers look good, he had a great win-loss record and had 9 title defenses. Those two together will usually get you in. However, his victim's list is not that impressive.

Ebihara was by far the best of that original group.
The only one that had great ability and fought excellent competition.
John and Pong fought a load of chumps, other than the debatable fight against Marquez for John.

Chris Eubank? The man is 0-0-1 in major world title bouts - in an era when major world titles were plentiful and fragmented! He doesn't qualify.

I don't think Eubank's resume is hof material.
Re: Tossing Out Names : Do They Belong In The IBHOF ?
Ebihara was an outstanding fighter and probably the deserved the decision in at least two of his world title fights, i,e, vs Kingpetch and the 2nd bout with Accavallo. Unfortunately he ends up as 2-4 in world title fights. Del Flanagan has a good argument and can't be held responsible for the fact he never got a title shot.
Re: Tossing Out Names : Do They Belong In The IBHOF ?
Probably go yes on Ebihara, marginally yes on Pong, no on the rest. Yes, Pong, John and Serrano made a ton of alphabet defenses, but none of them ever tried to unify or fight other champions. Pong at least fought some decent opposition at the end of his career. John fought Marquez and a few other decent opponents, but a vast majority of his "title fight" opposition was ludicrous. IMO all three were examples of the crappy, too-many-belt-holder's era where talented fighters can make a pile of "defenses" without losing sleepSeamus wrote:To make it more interesting I'll try to limit to 5 at a time. Re: Tossing Out Names : Do They Belong In The IBHOF ?
Bert Lytell has 3 wins over the Cocoa Kid, 2 over Holman Williams, and 1 over Charley Burley. Never got a title shot, but nowdays with 4 belts, he'd pick one up as easy as a morning paper.

Sarron is a no. Duffy not quite.
You can make a decent argument for Burns, Leto, and White.

Re: Tossing Out Names : Do They Belong In The IBHOF ?
I think all 5 of those guys should be in. Leto had 8 wins over HOF'ers and never got a title shot. Duffy was world class at LW and WW in a very strong era, and while Burns never won the title (he had 2 draws) he still has an outstanding resume.
