WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
So After capturing the interim WBC title golovkin became a mandatory challenger to Cotto, But they allowed Cotto to have 1 defence before he steps into the ring with Gennady.
Now Golovkin will face WBC #1 Martin Murray, is there any chance that the WBC might not give Cotto an optional defence and demand to fight him in summer? because Murray is the highest rated boxer by WBC.. im just saying is there any chance?
Also Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler stated that he wants Cotto by the end of 2015.. Cotto is not fighting Alvarez and is open for a summer showdown.. WHY NOT CHASE a fight with him NOW? Instead he waits for the end of 2015..

Whatever WBC decides, Cotto will avoid Golovkin.

If I was Cotto I would avoid GGG.It would be GGG's biggest win by far.ikorolev wrote:Whatever WBC decides, Cotto will avoid Golovkin.

Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
I would not. I would go for a chance for glory in a big PPV fight. I think 3G is the best deal for Cotto right now, unless Floyd chooses to fight him. I just dont see Cotto at this stage in his carrier fight bums like Santa Cruz or Garcia do.tiny_acres wrote:If I was Cotto I would avoid GGG.It would be GGG's biggest win by far.ikorolev wrote:Whatever WBC decides, Cotto will avoid Golovkin.

I asked if there is any chance that WBC might not allow an optional defence for Cotto and all of u say something irrelevant

I thought it was a rhetorical question.Aaronide_ger wrote:I asked if there is any chance that WBC might not allow an optional defence for Cotto and all of u say something irrelevant

WBC is irrelevant and has no influence on Cotto's decisions.Aaronide_ger wrote:I asked if there is any chance that WBC might not allow an optional defence for Cotto and all of u say something irrelevant

But c'mon man we all know (or should know) the abc orgs would do whatever serves their greater purpose, to make money in the sport of boxing. And having GGG & Miguel both paying sanctioning fees for a lil longer sounds like a pretty profitable plan.

alvarez kirkland is not going to happen 5/2 is the fight that shall not be named gets scheduledAaronide_ger wrote: Cotto is not fighting Alvarez
for that day, and if that other fight were to be scheduled that day, i'm pretty sure alvarez
kirkland would be put on the shelf for alvarez-cotto on another date. if the other fight doesn't
get scheduled soon, then it isn't going to happen 5/2, alternative fights for those 2 will be
discussed and alvarez-cotto will be scheduled for 5/2, because it would become the biggest
fight on the schedule no matter who the other two were fighting.
GGG will have the WBC title by the end of the year.

Do we really need to see the return of "Kneeguel" Cotto?

Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
I don't think so. They will just move it to a couple weeks later. Canelo vs Kirkland is no worse than Canelo vs Cotto from a fan standpoint.sucracristo wrote: alvarez kirkland is not going to happen 5/2 is the fight that shall not be named gets scheduled

Probably. If not by the end of the year, then within a year (unless GGG starts campaigning at 168).sucracristo wrote:GGG will have the WBC title by the end of the year.

which of those two would you say kirkland is comparable to in ppv or ticket sales?ikorolev wrote: Canelo vs Kirkland is no worse than Canelo vs Cotto from a fan standpoint.
Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
I am not talking about sales. Which one of the fights would fans rather watch ? I suspect fans would be split about equally.sucracristo wrote:which of those two would you say kirkland is comparable to in ppv or ticket sales?ikorolev wrote: Canelo vs Kirkland is no worse than Canelo vs Cotto from a fan standpoint.
Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
cotto is my favourite fighter. i think golovkin will stop him with body shots 3-5 rounds
Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
i am quite looking forward to Canelo vs Kirkland fight. i know Angulo came so close to stopping him in the first and didnt but the way kirkland destroyed Tapia. if its a boxing match saul wins easy for me . but saul is a Mexican if Kirkland wants a tear up he will get one i think saul has a big heart i know people question him. but it could be a classic. it is a shame erik morales has past his best

I just hope Kirkland makes the weight, after hearing he was nearly 200lbs.
What does Morales have to do with anything, or did I miss something?

If only Kirkland had a brain to train. I think Canelo brutally beats him. kirkland is always fun to watch but I don't see anything but him getting a beat down.Badhusker wrote:brilo33 wrote:i am quite looking forward to Canelo vs Kirkland fight. i know Angulo came so close to stopping him in the first and didnt but the way kirkland destroyed Tapia. if its a boxing match saul wins easy for me . but saul is a Mexican if Kirkland wants a tear up he will get one i think saul has a big heart i know people question him. but it could be a classic. it is a shame erik morales has past his best

Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
Maybe after getting the interim and now IF he beats the #1 in WBC rankings they MAYBE change the optional defence to no optional defence.. Thats all speculation but I doubt its going to happen anyway, made a thread to see what others thinkfergusg wrote:What you're proposing isn't going to happen. Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
Disagree unless that "good reason" is it makes them more money. They could pull a reason outta their ass tomorrow. There aren't a whole lot of hard & fast rules abc orgs abide by. I've been bored with the crimes & treasons of abc orgs against the sport of boxing for years, but I'm sure someone who's been keeping track of all this nonsense could post a dozen or so "rule" flips they've made. I mean right now we got a guy in Floyd who's holding two belts in two weight divisions. Let someone else try that.fergusg wrote:The WBC can't change their stance without good reason.

Yes, who else carries a bigger name that Miguel Cotto that is on 3G's resume??ikorolev wrote:Beating a blown up welter ???tiny_acres wrote:

Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
Cotto earned his name at WW and under. Beating him at 160 is not a big achievement, and quite a few fighters defeated by Golovkin would beat Cotto.KBB wrote:Yes, who else carries a bigger name that Miguel Cotto that is on 3G's resume??ikorolev wrote:Beating a blown up welter ???tiny_acres wrote:

Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
Cottos not built for 160 and GGG is a bad fight for him. All the credit in the world for Cotto taking Martinez out, but GGG is a little different animal than Martinez at this stage. Cotto took Martinez when he was ripe, which made it easy on Cotto (although It think Cotto was more than capable of beating a healthy Martinez as well). Cotto will make smart business/career choices and fighting GGG is the opposite of a good business/career choice. I think we'll more than likely see Cotto drop down to 154 or have a couple catch-weight fights at 155-156 against a Welterweight or JMW for his middleweight title. I will personally not hold it against him either, might as well make good money and fight guys his own size rather than make less money fighting someone that comes with the risk GGG brings.
Re: WBC - Cotto vs Golovkin
Golovkin would seriously ruin Cotto. It'd probably be an even worse beating than he took against Margarito.
