Yeah, right, except it is a lie. Haymon boxers are calling GGG out knowing that there is no way for such fights to happen, as they can't fight on HBO. That includes the article about Hopkins, as it is from 2013.
Chavez had an opportunity to fight Gennady last year, but he chickened out quoting disagreements with Arum.

Sure they can happen.
But GGG's folks don't want them to.
Hell, Hopkins is proof they can happen.
And Jr. didn't chicken out. Arum wanted him to extend his contract with TR as a condition for the fight.
Jr has seen what DLH and Floyd did by getting away from Bob and probably wants to try the same.
Hopkins fight against Kovalev happened when GB parted with Haymon, while your article is from 2013 which is before the split. All the other fighters from your links are still with Haymon.
Golovkin will fight Chavez at any time. Junior is on top of his most wanted list.
Hopkins fight would be accepted too, but Bernard is trying to get easier fights against Chavez or Froch.
To me should Gennady Golovkin get past Martin Murray, the match up between Golovkin v Turano Johnson strikes me as a keep busy fight so he keeps the ring rust off while the rest of the division shakes itself out. Because you habve Billy Joe Saunders waiting for the winner of the Peter Quillin-Andy Lee match for the WBO portion fot the Middleweight division and he might want a low risk keep busy fight which involve a defence of any or all three of the belts Saunders has until he knows who he will be challenging for it and then there is Chris Eubank Jnr who wants a rematch him who has got Chudinov for the interim WBA belt which puts in the sights of Golovkin down the line.
Then you have got Hassan Ndam and his IBF match up which takes him out the equation. Plus Cotto who probably isn't keen on getting run over by Golovkin but wants Saul Alavrez should he get past James Kirkland which would make better PPV money with the Puerto Rico v Mexican rivalry rather than getting smashed up by Golovkin. So the Johnson match up keeps Golovkin in everyones sights while everyone sorts themselves sp by July we will see who is left standing then.

I could almost go for this line of reasoning.
Indeed, it may explain some things, but not all.
There is literally a slew of guys ranked in the top 10 from 154 thru 175 who at this very moment have "TBA" listed as their next opponent.
GGG's folks could make a big name fight if they wanted to after Murray.
First of all, GGG team is only talking about 154 to 168, not 175. Second of all, they are clearly saying that Gennady will go up or down FOR A PPV FIGHT ONLY. So, fighting Bikas or Vaneses is not included in that statement.

No they couldn't. Big name fights around 160: Chavez, Froch, Cotto, Canelo. None of these guys want it, maybe Canelo eventually but not anytime soon.
For me the best opponent against GGG in May 16 would be a MANDATORY defence, I mean how long does he have to make a mandatory defence? Has he ever made one in 12 fights? I dont think so..
That is because in september and december GGG will have unification fights.. and if WBA orders a mandatory then GGG is screwed..

Both Chavez and Froch DO want it, but they will probably fight each other before GGG.
Canelo and Cotto are looking at bigger money fights before GGG, but I have heard that Kid Cinnamon is very OK with a Golovkin fight down the road.
I think Miguel can see the end of the road and is only interested in huge fights- GGG isn't that for him.

Right, Chavez wants it, but instead of taking 7m for GGG, he's fighting Fonfara for a fraction of that.
Froch was clear, no interest:
“Just swerve Golovkin like the plague. He punches like a mule. I don't need to be in with him. Dangerous fight,”
Froch clarifies the above: "It was tongue in cheek back then. I was being a bit cheeky and you can take those comments with a pinch of salt. What I will say though is this guy can f*cking punch: he's dangerous and if he can be avoided we'll avoid him. "

If 7M was offered it was that AND an extension that JCC didn't want. The extension prevented him from signing, not any worry about Golovkin.
As for Carl, I don't think he is worried about Golovkin at all. He is a talker. And pretty good at head games. Just ask Groves.
And with JCC still being frozen out of anything by Arum, don't be shocked if Froch starts calling for GGG instead.

It included a 1 fight extension, for $5m if he lost to GGG, $10m if he won. That's an amazing deal, 12m worst case. Chavez won't make half of that now, not to mention the court battle he's in with Top Rank.
Froch's quotes speak for themselves. His promoter said it'd take "outrageous money" to get him in the ring with GGG, that it's a "career threatening fight". Sure Froch is a talker, but he doesn't like to paint himself in a bad light like that.
Tureano Johnson is MUCH better than many of Roberto Duran's opponents.
If a guys fights twice a year, by all means scrutinize every opponent. But if a guy is fighting 3/4 times a year, one should be against a fringe contender.
As long as GGG stays active, I don't have any problem giving a guy a shot.

This is a guy who has said he can go anywhere from 154 to 175, and he can't cash in?
Sooner or later, he is going to have to be held accountable.
Mr smarty pants,
have you ever seen Geale and Rubio pack their bags in the ring all of a sudden after just 6 minutes, like they did vs GGG ?
They could have gone on, but chose not to.
Just show me another instance where it happened in these guys' career...
At middleweight, has Johnson beaten any of the other top 15 guys?
To me Johnson vs GGG is very unrealistic unless he beats someone good. Coming close or getting robbed doesn't really matter, (as was the case with Stevens I read)
How does Fight News have Jacobs at #5? Are they that impressed with a blowout of Fletcher, something their #15 Saunders accomplished in just two rounds? It's not like Jacobs was heavily knocked out by the only top MW he faced either..........
Johnson has a fun style but he's below the level of opponent that I want to see GGG against.
Aaronide_ger wrote:If Golovkin wins there is a high possibility that he will face Tureano 18(13)-1 I believe Tureano is a very good boxer whose only loss came against Curtis stevens in a premature stoppage at round 10..
BUT, I really dont think he could pose any single problem to GGG, Curtis landed 200+ punches on him Golovkin will literally oblirare him, ALSO he hasnt even won against any Top25 Middleweight WHY does they even talk about him?
I know there are limited options but there are guys like Heiland , Chudinov (If he beats Eubank) , Jacobs (Al Haymon Protected) , and ofc Cotto that doesnt have a fight lined up which can be WAY BETTER options than Johson..
What do you gusy think?
Another sacrificial lamb for GGG to slaughter, at this point I refuse to watch anymore Golovkin's fights but I'm not necessarily directing that at him because he does what he is supposed to do against his limited comp but his promoter needs to step it way up and if he's not fighting them at 60 because they're running from him then he needs to move to 68 or 75 and seek out all the comp that his loyal fans are saying that he could beat.
It's time for him to really earn his spot in the P4P, he is winning in great fashion but not against anyone I would consider a world beater.

Hey, no argument from me on that.
Geale I can't speak on but I NEVER saw Rubio think about going golfing so soon in a fight.
No one is saying GGG is not the goods...he just needs to verify it with top guys.
And there ARE some elite guys who DO want him in the ring...yesterday.
koolkc107 wrote:

There are no elite guys who are willing and capable of fighting GGG right now. They are either Haymon fighters or need tuneups or just plain ducking. Hopkins may be one exception, but he hasn't contacted Loefler yet still hoping to get Chavez or Froch fights.

There are loads of elite and name guys, especially in the 168 weight class who've been begging for a GGG fight, some for almost 2 years.
