Will the Haymon dilema go on and on and on?

Post by Chepppaaa »

that his fighters wont fight outside of his group or gb etc.?

i mean he has so many top level boxers, it would just be a tragedy if they cant face other top level boxers because he's a di%$k

how is this gonne play out.

I mean, the dream scenario would be he does his series with lower weights and heavier weights like he wants to do now with adonis and berbetiev etc....
and than after the series on national tv, than he works with anybody for big ppv events.

It seems that way. It would seem he is a promoter and a manager for some fighters.... Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act comes to mind.

Who exactly has he been a promoter for? Al definitely gots some sketchy sh!t in his past with the Lamon Brewster thing & I suspect he & Richard conspired to take over GBP if we just wanna talk negative sh!t about him, but I don't see this issue at all.

Other fighters may want to join to get the fights against his boxers.

All those fighters that left GBP - who promotes them? 8)

Theres a very thin line between promoting, managing and advising a fighter, and Al certainly seems to do all three. This is why America's 'Ali Boxing Reform Act' is completely pointless, if not counterproductive! There are so many advantages (both to promoter and boxer) if a manager can also promote his fighters!

I would argue, however, that Al certainly seems to have the best interests of his fighters at heart, like most managers, but unlike mot promoters!

That is a dubious assertion. The role of a manager is to negotiate with the promoter on behalf of the boxer, who is his client. If the promoter and manager are the same person, that's a clear conflict of interest.

Right now the fighters who have signed with Al don't care much because he gets them good paydays and he doesn't take a huge percentage for himself, but let's not pretend that the distinction between manager and promoter is trivial or meaningless.

I don't believe any have a full time promoter, as it should be. Lou Dibella, Warriors & iirc the Goosens are the guys who are promoting most of them on a fight by fight basis from my understanding.

Why does a fighter need a full time promoter?

What fight has Al promoted? What Al does is basically what most managers with high profile or promising clients do. There is a vetting of sorts of potential opponents between the manager, the promoter & the TV channel if one is involved. Without a manager, promoter & TV channel if one is involved an agreement to fight isn't getting made.

Now I'm sure there is some sorta payments made sometimes in the form of purses paid for guys if one party isn't in agreement with a particular fight, but this happens at all levels. Its widely known info that managers will pay to get their boxers better (or sometimes worse) opponents than a promoter is willing to pay for.

I would agree the line between a manager & an advisor is a very thin line. And to me Al is pretty much choosing to call himself an advisor instead of a manager.

To be honest, I think some of you guys are not seeing the big picture. Who does golden boy really have in their stable besides canelo, Lemieux, and matthysse? Having said that, top rank has more clients than Oscar does of course but not as many big names as you would think that aren't older. My point is that there are "a few" fights that we may not be able to see, but in actuality so many fighters have signed with Al haymon that he can make GOOD fights for quite a while just within his own stable.

Of course I would like to see the crossover fights happen, but as Al's roster keeps growing it bothers me less and less

I can honestly see Haymon, Shaefer, and Mayweather getting together under the Banner of Mayweather Promotions, or some name like that to dominate the sport in the future. Fighters will be forced somewhat to join them to get big fights.

It isn't any different that what goes on currently if you think of it. How many guys that fought Manny had to join Top Rank to get the fight? They are all a bunch of greedy sacks, but money is the most important thing in boxing, and always will be for the big fights.

By the way, I am probably missing something, but to me bringing boxing back to network TV to get more fans interested in the sport is great for boxing. I suppose Haymon's grand plan is to get more people hooked on it, then lure them back in to pay for PPV for some big fights.

Haymon definitely found a loophole in boxing and he's cashing in on it. I'm going to give his rope some slack until I see what he does over the next 6 months. If he brings big free fights to my living room and boosts boxing's fan base, i'll give him a thumbs up. If he continues to keep his best fighters from putting their titles on the line or protecting them like he did in 2014, i'll sit here writing badly about him for a week straight because that was some aggravating stuff to watch.

It always seems like Top Rank is in court with some boxer trying to milk one more fight out of them. Goosen Promotions has like 6 lawsuits pending right now. I don't see that any of his current boxers or former boxers have a problem with Haymon. Come to think of it, I don't think there are any former boxers because i don't think anyone has left Haymon. The boxers love him.

It's somewhat eerie though that they thank him before thanking God or their trainers and families......

Matthysse left Haymon and the Provodnikov fight gets made right away. Coincidence? Nope.

So.

Does every fight that Arum involved in get made? How about Don King? How about Oscar?
