Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
If no Cotto/Canelo/Froch/Hopkins, he could face Chudinov/Eubank winner or Lemieux/N'Dam winner or Lee if he beats Quillin and BJS agrees to another wait.
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
GGG's next fight will be his toughest so far imo. Not that I think he will lose, but he could be tested more than in recent fights. I hope he isn't looking past his upcoming fight.
I think we all want to see GGG vs Cotto and/or Canelo, but seriously doubt if they want it. Quillen doesn't have the boys to fight him since he publicly said no way would he even fight Lara. Lara vs GGG would be interesting.

Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Golovkin's next opponent will probably be worse than Martin Murray and people will start complaining...
There is a high chance if Chudinov wins that he "MIGHT" face Golovkin and that for me is a good matchup for May, Then there is a chance for Willie Monroe that for me is not that interesting one, Also people talk a lot about Tureano Johnson which I definately dont wanna see. SO
Chudinov 40%
Monroe Jr. 25%
Johnson 25%
Cotto 10%

Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
There nobody to fight at 160......unless he lucks and get canelo in a yr or 2. Cotto is not going to fight him. Everyone else is sub par.
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Matching up GGG is one thing but having him box someone who can actually challenge him is another.
GGG has been so dominant and destructive it's hard to pick a boxer from that group which could potentially cause him problems or one that would be willing to take the fight.
Lemieux on his game could be interesting but I'd like to see how he fairs in his next bout or two, Eubank is young and athletic enough but lacking in boxing skill.

Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Did you really list Sergio Mora and Jermain Taylor?
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
There's obviously no one to challenge him at 160. Everyone knows this, and if they dont, they should know this. He wont lose until he inevitably goes up to 168 - probably in 3 yrs to get pasted by Ward.
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Is Ward still alive? I mean the last time he fought I think Bill Clinton was president
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Haymon needed to match Taylor with somebody who wouldn't accidently kill him in the ring. He couldn't trust Quillin or Jackobs, so he selected Morafergusg wrote:Sergio Mora was recently due to face Jermain Taylor for the IBF belt.drew kim wrote:Did you really list Sergio Mora and Jermain Taylor?

Triple G's 4 fight extension is done after his May date.
Which means that, technically speaking, Haymon fighters are in play after that.
I just don't buy that there is no one for him to fight.
154 to 175 is what his trainer and he said.
Yes, it is clear he is being avoided by some.
But, there are still plenty of folks who want Golovkin in the ring.
Some he has actually ducked, like Lara.

Tell us how he is ducking Peter Quillin now..
Lara called out Golovkin because he knows this fight cant be made, If he really wanted to face him he could have chased it. Simple as that.

And the fight can be made if Golovkin wants it.

Are you dumb or what ? Haymon fighters can't fight on HBO. Besides, beating a LMW will not add much to Golovkin's resume, and Lara is not a draw, so no financial benefit.

You are sounding like a bandwagon fan.Coming up with any excuse why he should not fight these people.ikorolev wrote:Are you dumb or what ? Haymon fighters can't fight on HBO. Besides, beating a LMW will not add much to Golovkin's resume, and Lara is not a draw, so no financial benefit.
Lara is not a draw? Well neither is Murray. Why not Lara?
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
He's just giving reasons why those fights are unlikely to happen, and if you've followed the business side you should know that someone being with Haymon is a huge obstacle to them fighting on HBO, a network which GGG is contracted to. It's easy to say 'so and so should fight so and so', but making those bouts isn't always easy even if the fighters are willing.tiny_acres wrote:You are sounding like a bandwagon fan.Coming up with any excuse why he should not fight these people.ikorolev wrote:Are you dumb or what ? As soon as he can tell me which of GGG's last 7 opponents are a bigger draw than Lara, I might consider it.
And it isn't like he hasn't fought guys coming up from 154 before...
Dumb indeed.
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Won't really matter since Lara is with Haymon and there are major obstacles to having his fighters on HBO.
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Murray will definitely be a better scalp in Golovkin's collection than Lara. And yes, Murray will draw more in Monaco than Lara would've.tiny_acres wrote: Lara is not a draw? Well neither is Murray. Why not Lara?

Live in your fantasy world.
And to be honest I consider GGG to be a top 10 P4P boxer. And I would pick him over Lara.
But to dismiss him and say Murray is a better scalp is insane and pure fan boy bullshit.
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Murray is a top 10 MW, and arguably he can beat 8 out of the other 9. For a casual fan, beating an obscure light middle wouldn't add anything to GGG's resume. Lara is a good fighter, but he is a light middle, and he didn't look too good against Molina, Vanes and Canelo. Murray can box, and Lara is not a puncher, so I would give Murray good chances of beating him in late rounds just due to being significantly stronger.

For once I mostly agree with u.......Lara looks good against other boxer/counter fighters. he has problems with fighters that pressure and push foward. Lara had a very hard night against Angulo and Angulo done had his ass handed to him b/f the his fighter w/ Lara so no he's shot after the Lara fight. Lara should have a loss against Molina, who fought in close and made it an ugly/sloppy fight.
I can't help if Angulo damn near broke him and a bigger and a whole lot better GGG runs thru him.
With that being said the Murray/Quillen fight is the best fight GGG can get at Middle talent wise and cash wise. He aint getting Quillen so Unless he lucks out and gets Canelo at 160 he needs to either move down or move up. Theres nothing but shit there. He's wasting his prime fighting sub par guys. If he wants to stay at 160 and make this defenses he should fight back in Europe where I would think he'd make more money. You make ur move to the states to chase the names and get world wide recognition, he cannot do that by knocking these dudes out.
Re: Are there any 160lb opponents that GGG can face?
Look at LMW, SMW or any other ABC rankings, and you will see that it is no different -- mediocre fighters are up high.fergusg wrote:I agree.ikorolev wrote: Haymon needed to match Taylor with somebody who wouldn't accidently kill him in the ring. Sadly, the state of the middleweight division has deteriorated to the point that Sergio Mora is actually considered a legitimate world title contender (i.e. IBF = 7th; WBC = 9th; WBA = 14th).
It was only Jermain Taylor’s out-of-ring shenanigans that deprived Mora a shot at the IBF world title.

I have to agree. The ratings are a joke. It all depends on who your promoter or managers are. Anyone can get rated now a daysikorolev wrote:Look at LMW, SMW or any other ABC rankings, and you will see that it is no different -- mediocre fighters are up high.fergusg wrote:I agree.ikorolev wrote: Haymon needed to match Taylor with somebody who wouldn't accidently kill him in the ring. 3G "can face" anyone at 160 with the sac to face him, and I will watch.
