I will be rooting for him. I hope he can win a title and defend it, make plenty of money. Despite our exchanges I am not against Jordan Shimell. Look at the IWBR ratings with fair eyes. They are good ratings with no bias.

I like all ratings as they give fans something to talk about and debate the merits of a particular boxer being ranked too high or too low. I like that the IBO & IWBR rate the top 100. I also like that the IWBR shows the boxers rankings in all the sanctioning bodies. It would be nice if the losses had an L-28 for a boxer who lost to a ranked boxer (in this example to a boxer ranked #28). As we know not all losses are equal so a loss to a ranked boxer isn't as damaging as a loss to an unranked boxer with a losing record.

A necessary correction for the IWBR is for the age column which often lists a wrong age for a boxer. Most of the time it just didn't get updated so the boxer is listed as a year or two younger than his actual age. It should be linked to the boxer's dob and the current date so it is updated automatically. An example is Thabiso Mchunu is listed as 24 but he will be turning 27 in a few weeks.

The new NABF ratings are out and Jordan Shimmell is #2. I edited my original post with updated rankings. He also moved back up to #23 in the BoxRec world ratings.

Thanks Dennis, yes few ages are out, sometimes it is hard to get a start date so they don't get updated each month. Shortly we will be increasing the last six fights to last twenty fights, the opposition quality really stands out. It is a great idea what you say about listing the loss ranking as well, it can get a bit cluttered, I will look at a way.

Lennox - hopefully you can improve your ratings site to make it even more useful to boxing insiders and fans.

Sounds promising. Who are these two opponents who will propel Jordan into the top 15? :TU:

I don't know who the next opponent is yet. It will probably be someone in the NABF, USBA, NABO, NABA rankings who is in the top 100 of BoxRec & IBO ratings. The 2nd opponent will hopefully be someone higher ranked than the first and possibly a top 5 or 10 guy in the world rankings.

Reggie - the rankings all go back to how you start them. Without the starting point being fully disclosed and the formula to be used fully disclosed in detail there can be a lot of biases in computer rankings. However, we also know that there can be A LOT of bias in subjective human rankings. Nothing is perfect. I like BoxRec's rankings because it is open and everyone's rankings are available. I just wish they fully explained the launch state and how they arrive at the numbers used. It is still the most open system with the formulas used made publicly available to anyone who wants to read them.

Dennis, how do you feel about new Haymon signee Erickson Lubin being put in two consecutive ESPN fights in two months while your son hasn't fought since December and has nothing announced?

Lubin is in a hot division and is looking awesome. Was expecting to make Olympics so this doesn't surprise me.

Lubin was on TV while he was with IMP and it makes sense to continue it since he is performing well. Jordan will get on TV in a bigger fight very soon.

Lubin being on TV is an investment as they are paying his opponents handsomely to fight him. Probably paying him fairly well too.

What does investing in Lubin do for your kid? No matter how much they invest in him the layoff is still the same, correct?

Idk that I'd call not fighting since Dec. much of a layoff. Its only Feb. man lol.

It would seem that a white near HW boxer with a sexy undefeated record whos mostly stopping people will be able to get on TV as much as they want once this whole PBC thing gets rolling next month. Al gots so many outlets you will damn near need to request NOT to be on TV with the appeal Jordan will likely have for many TV viewers.

These guys mouth just to mouth......Lubin was a favorite for the Olympics........USA boxing threw a fit when imp signed him. So it's a lot easier when u have money behind u like Lublin does. Jordan has 1 fight under Haymon....maybe give it to the end of the yr before u start talking shit. The relationship just started lol

Lubin wouldn't have been favorite for the olympics not by a long shot he proved very little in the amateurs and only has 1 notable win

Sotologo, Yeleussinov for starters would have been favorites over him

Olanrewaju Durodola Would be a perfect fight for Jordan I have sparred him a few times and fought Jordan. Jordan is way to hard to catch clean with punchs and he wins this fight completely by just being busier. I was completely out of shape and sparred Olanrewaju Durodola and had him hurt really bad he did give me all I wanted but I was 100% out of shape. I would for sure take that fight if offered Dennis

Ok, point taken. So they shouldn't have a problem taking a back seat to a kid who has plenty of time to develop? Watch him get on TV twice and just enjoy it? Yeah, Jordan fought in December, but by the time a fight is scheduled they're looking possibly at a 5 month layoff. If you saw Jordan's last fight you'd realize he didn't need that long. That's the problem. Al Haymon has no idea what happened in that last fight. Is that how prospects are built? Waiting and toeing the company line on the boxrec forum? 170 plus fighters and how many quality matchmakers working to develop them? I count two. Johnny B and Tom Brown. There's the problem.
