Not a Jim fan, but I understand him being a part of this, but Paulie definitely woulda been a better choice than Roy imho.Chris Mannix @ChrisMannixSI 9 minutes ago

Floyd vs Manny announcing team
Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
Paulie seems extremely biased against Pac to me so I'd prefer Roy, who seems less partial in my opinion.

Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
Yea I guess he has said some sh!t, even recently, about Manny & PEDs so he probably ruined his chances of getting this gig right there. I prefer him over Roy, but he ain't the most guarded with his opinions sometimes. I think Roy has said some anti-Floyd stuff recently too, but I don't think its on the level of what Paulie said.crusader wrote:Paulie seems extremely biased against Pac to me so I'd prefer Roy, who seems less partial in my opinion.

They can't have both guys announce? Seems like the logical thing to do.ReggieDiggs wrote:Yea I guess he has said some sh!t, even recently, about Manny & PEDs so he probably ruined his chances of getting this gig right there. Well obviously. Don't think I said both should do it.Badhusker wrote: They can't have both guys announce? Seems like the logical thing to do.
I'm just more a fan of Paulie is what I'm saying.

I say paulie and roy fight at a catchweight, the winner gets the gig.Badhusker wrote:They can't have both guys announce? Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
Malignaggi would be about the worst choice of announcer that could be found for this fight. Amongst boxers / announcers, it's almost not possible to find someone who swings from Mayweather's nuts more than Malignaggi does, on top of being one of Pacquiao's biggest haters. I mean, I guess you could assemble a panel of Roger Mayweather, Alex Ariza, and Justin Bieber to announce this fight, but that doesn't strike me as a very professional thing to do.

Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
I think Paulie is on record saying Amir would beat Floyd. Which I find comical while still respecting Paulie being right way more often than being wrong, but I know plenty of people around here believe the same. Mainly I wouldn't expect that opinion from a nuthugger. I believe he's also picked Keith over Floyd too.Lackeos wrote:Malignaggi would be about the worst choice of announcer that could be found for this fight. I think boxing fans are a lil silly about lovers & haters of boxing people. You can't show respect to a guy without being all on their nuts & you can't be critical of anyone without being a hater. Granted there are people who are nuthuggers & haters, but its thrown out there as an accusation & assumed truth more often than nutty ass ducking bs.
Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
I would prefer Al, Paulie, and Max and leave it at that. Leave the Jim's at the door--Grey because he has always come off as a complete prick IMO and I just don't like the guy, and Lampley because he gets too excited about nothing and tries to invent stuff that isn't happening. Roy is fine, but I would prefer Paulie.
With that being said, I'm ok with this team and I understand why they picked who they picked.
All I can say is thank GOD they aren't using Mauro Ranallo.

It's the best crew they could put together based on seniority and prestige.
Jim Lampley > Mauro Renallo
Al Bernstein > Max Kellerman
Roy Jones Jr. > Paulie Malinaggi
On resumes alone, this is the team that was going to get picked.

Mauro announcing this fight would have led to the largest mass suicide event in history. People would be talking about the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight like it was 9/11. The US military would be invading Canada within the week.rampage wrote:All I can say is thank GOD they aren't using Mauro Ranallo.
Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
Paulie strikes me as more anti-Manny than pro-Floyd. He's made loads of negative comments about Pacquiao that far outweigh anything positive he's said about him, and in some interviews in which he's talked about Manny his tone seems like one of dislike that to me goes beyond simply offering reasonable criticism. I also think that given this and the fact that he's vehemently suggested that Manny wouldn't be remotely competitive with Floyd his commentary would be especially prone to bias. I generally think he's quite a good analyst, probably better than Roy, but as mentioned I think it's best he sits this one out.ReggieDiggs wrote:I think Paulie is on record saying Amir would beat Floyd. Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
Jones is extremely biased against Floyd to me, so I'd prefer Paulie who can be objective and fair for/against both of them even though he seemingly has a chip on his shoulder towards Pac but Roy is just flat out jealous of Mayweather for all kinds of reasons.crusader wrote:Paulie seems extremely biased against Pac to me so I'd prefer Roy, who seems less partial in my opinion.
Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
I haven't noticed Roy being nearly as biased against Floyd as Paulie is against Pac (several PED allegations, suggesting that Pac doesn't deserve the fight, vehemently saying that Pac won't be remotely competitive and that it won't even be a fight, a harsh tone when he talks about Pac, close to nothing positive said about him).
Admittedly I haven't seen many interviews with Roy and I often watch bouts he commentates with the sound off, so maybe you could give some examples of his bias against Floyd.

Quote by the Hater and Jealous Jones:
"Boxing skills...I ain't going to say he's the best I've ever seen at boxing, but he's the smartest I've ever seen for sure."
When Jones was asked what could have gone down had he met Mayweather with both of them in their prime, he responded with gusto: "Come on, man. This is Roy Jones Jr. Do we have to discuss that? Roy Jones Jr. during his prime against what? Godzilla, King-kong, who?"

I wasn't debating the PED stuff. He's clearly said that. I was debating the Floyd nuthugger silliness. He sits based on the PED stuff (actually he is doing the prefight show so he's not really sitting all the way, he's just not doing the live fight).crusader wrote:Paulie strikes me as more anti-Manny than pro-Floyd. Yes.crusader wrote:Paulie seems extremely biased against Pac to me so I'd prefer Roy, who seems less partial in my opinion.
I was hoping for the team of Lampley, Jones and Bernstein.
Definitely better than Ranello, Malignaggi and Kellerman.
Re: Floyd vs Manny announcing team
Maybe so but he has never expressed himself to the point of it seeming to be a personal thing; he just thought that it was possible that Pacquiao was juicing and with Manny refusing to do the testing back in 2010 and the way he has seemingly fallen off now I can understand why PM stated the things he has.IKSRTFO wrote:If anything, Paulie seems jealous of Pacquiao's successKBB wrote:Jones is extremely biased against Floyd to me, so I'd prefer Paulie who can be objective and fair for/against both of them even though he seemingly has a chip on his shoulder towards Pac but Roy is just flat out jealous of Mayweather for all kinds of reasons.crusader wrote:Paulie seems extremely biased against Pac to me so I'd prefer Roy, who seems less partial in my opinion.
Roy has just been a flat out Hater and shows his jealousy openly, he has no basis for his hate and just comes off as pure insane jealousy.

Lets be real though. Throwing Ranello with any other two guys is like having the fat kid on your team in pickup basketball & the other 3 guys automatically get the W.Freedom2013 wrote: I was hoping for the team of Lampley, Jones and Bernstein.
