If he announced it was taking place May 2nd 2010 I would be over the moon.

As it is 2015 I am mildly pleased, although the way they have dragged it out is ridiculous and farcical.

I am a very jaded and cynical boxing fan, and sometimes can't get excited about boxing these days.

Yes,m5 years late etc but come on.... I feel pretty lifted by this

Same here. I know it's far far too late, but I just can't understand how any boxing fan wouldn't be excited by this announcement.

Good news :yay:

I've repeatedly asked these types which realistic bout would involve a greater amount of ability, be a comparably major event, and involve such a protracted rivalry.....never get an answer. I think it's become hip to whine about the fight and while I get that it may not be what it once was it's still pretty damn good!

This will be a global news and sporting event. Everyone from Far East to sports mad USA will be obsessed with this fight.

It will dominate the sports pages and contains everything - East/west culture clash, flashy bling vs humble charitable man of the people, boxer vs puncher (yeah I know it's much more than that really).

Anyway go on Manny!

Ps is it quite a late announcement? 10 weeks from announcement to fight seems quite quick turnaround for a fight this big

True, but I guess there's no real need to go mad on a cross-country promotional tour, this fight sells itself, so the fighters can concentrate fully on their camps.

Really pleased to hear they've made it at 147 and get to pick their own gloves. We have a proper fight!

The 5 year back and forth of will they wont they, coupled together with their decling age and form turned me off this fight long ago. At best I'm mildly pleased it is finally going to happen. Perhaps I will get swept up in all the feverish hype during the build up as they try to sell it as the biggest, most important fight in the history of boxing, though somehow i doubt it. Thats probably because I feel theres a strong chance the fight will be a 12 round bore fest. If Mayweather is capable of shutting Pacquiao down through defensive genius and seriously negitive offense, the fight will stink to the high heavens and boxing as a sport will be left with a lot of explaing to do. On the flip side, if the PacMan can get at Mayweather, he could well win this on work rate, for a boxing fan who knows the sport, the thought of watching Mayweather lose his zero is rather intreaging.

That's pretty much where I sit as well - would have been crazy for this fight five years ago, but now really find it hard to see anything other than an easy points win for Mayweather.

It's had a five year build up! No need for further hype

Floyd will turn 38 next week. All the years he's kept Manny waiting may come back to haunt him.

I think the years have hurt manny more than floyd. Mayweather hasn't taken any punishment and his style isn't as dependent on work rate and speed

Possibly - but Floyd looked quite wobbly whenever Maidana tagged him.

I wonder how much he has to hold off and hurt Pac. He can't match his workrate. Two old men though, like the Lewis Tyson horrorshow.

Floyd's age is irrelevant, in terms of in-ring wear and tear they are leagues apart.

Manny is hardly a spring chicken himself.

I still consider this a great fight regardless of timelines, its hardly in the Lewis vs Tyson territory of to late.

Yeah it's nothing like Lewis vs Tyson; Lewis was still relatively close to his best, whereas Tyson was virtually shot. Floyd & Manny have both slipped over the last few years, but there's no huge disparity like there was for Lewis vs Tyson.

Being nearly 40 years old is never irrelevant in an athletic contest. Never.

A 38 year old body doesn't shrug off a punch the way a 28 year old might. Regardless of the carefully crafted record, Floyd is an old man and the right opponent will reveal it.
