Who'd you rather see Miguel fight next?

Post by ReggieDiggs »

Apparently Bob has given Miguel 3 choices for his next fight.

Tim Bradley #26 P4P (on Boxrec), 31-1-1 (12)
Cornelius Bundrage, #24 P4P, 34-5 (19)
Brandon Rios, #65 P4P, 33-2-1 (24)

Which one would you rather see?

Personally I find these options extremely lackluster considering the fight would be at 160 & 2/3 of these guys have done nothing above 147. Certainly names though which can go a long way in todays boxing world. And there is obviously not a lot of great options at 160 right now as we've gone over in the GGG threads outside of GGG vs Miguel. Problem with that is thats a PPV fight & with Manny vs Floyd in May it probably doesn't maximize their $$$ if they throw this fight out there in June. With the suggested options I think you gotta go with Tim. Cornelius is 41 so he's not as good an option as his higher weight success/experience would have you thinking imho & Tim while still smaller is a guy who I believe Andre Ward is still saying was his toughest fight so something tells me Tim isn't gonna be an easy win for Miguel.

Also seeing rumors on twitter Miguel could be signing with Roc Nation, which seems counterproductive for him, but who knows they have been offering guys some sexy deals that have largely been shot down by everyone besides Andre Ward.

Why isn't GGG an option?

He isn't one of Bob's choices apparently.

Out of those very unappealing options I'd go for Bradley, although the Rios fight would be more fun.

I think K-9 is the only one size wise out of the three that would match up with Cotto. Granted Cotto isn't a true MW, but he's a legit 154 pounder these days. Bradley seems small for 147, let alone 154. K9 would give him another belt option, in case he wanted to go back down to 154 full time.

That is likely based on clear unwillingness of Miguel to face GGG or any other top middleweight.

None of those options are good. I went Bradley but if Cotto (or his promoter) won't consider good middleweights he should move down or hang 'em up.

I guess K9 out of those options, but I still have some sort of misguided faith that HBO will throw enough money at GGG/Cotto to make it happen in June.

HBO doesn't seem to be throwing money at GGG at all. Compared to other top fighters (except Kovalev who is in similar position), he is getting pennies.

I think they are worse than garbage choices.
But it would not shock me if he picked someone even worse off then these.

He should find some courage and tell Arum he wants to fight Golovkin.

Either that, or vacate his middleweight title.

Isn't he a free agent ? He or his attorney could just tell Loefler that he wants Golovkin.

I think most people myself included have no doubt they would like to see Miguel Cotto fight GGG.
Cotto is a fan favorite and almost always has been, he always draws a very healthy crowd due to his reputation and the quality of fights he's involved in have been of a high standard.
I've seen Miguel fight in Las Vegas and New York and there's always been a tremendous buzz at his contests, the events are very exciting to attend.
Obviously its a very risky bout for Miguel to take because the potential chances of suffering a defeat against a red hot GGG would be quite high at this stage.
I think it will come down to how much they're willing to pay Cotto, GGG might have to take short money in order to make this materialize but sometimes you have to give some to get some.
It would be easy for the Cotto people to take an easier defence and milk the cash cow for a few fights, GGG on the other hand is in that position where he's so good right now that no one wants to face him which is why financially he may have to succumb to the demands if he wants the fight.
As for Tim Bradley yes I'd like to see that too but in no way shape or form does it supersede the GGG contest.

Its pretty pathetic that the only ones being considered are two welterweights and a superwelter. What a freaking joke. Cotto should just give up the belt. Losing respect for him fast.

And people are complaining about Haymon?

Cotto will never even be remembered as a middleweight champion until he beats one who aint cripple beating blown up fighters is bullsh.. if he wants to fight at middleweight
then fight middleweights or pis. off back to your right weight instead of bleeding the sport that has made life real easy on the financial front for him and his family and yes he deserves it must have worked his ass off for years so Mr Cotto don't ruin your legacy try to build on it before you retire you must fight GGG next its your only option. :TU:

History has a horrible memory lol. No one is gonna care about who Miguel beat in 20 years. Titles are ALL kinda bs these days. I don't think Miguel should be considered any lesser than anyone else with a equally bs title.

Lets talk about today, Boxing is about weight it dictates what WEIGHT DIVISION YOU WILL FIGHT AT otherwise it would be open slather in the end the sport would die a long horrible death
with bantamweights getting killed by welterweights and so on and so on if Cotto doesn't want to fight middleweights then fu.. off back to jr middle or welter so a middleweight can fight for
the world tittle belt and he can give his family the same opportunity's Cotto has been able to give his family through boxing.

Tom Loefler already said that they are ready to be a C side in a bout against Cotto. Unfortunately, it is not about money. With 99% certainty Cotto would get brutally beaten and stopped which wouldn't be good for his legacy to say nothing about his long term health.

There is an A side and a B side. Loefler meant that they are ready to make more concessions than a B side.
