masters titles belts
masters titles belts
I heard there coming to an end in April is this true?
Re: masters titles belts
Yeah thats wat ive heard. Not going to belp the small hall promotional companies but sud get more area title fights on and force the fights to b made. In stead of all these titles that never get defended and get fought for every other week
Re: masters titles belts
The BBBOC could make an inter-area belt instead, for fighters with less than 15 bouts???? max 8x3 rdsmaley1984 wrote:Yeah thats wat ive heard. Re: masters titles belts
No more 8 rounders for the Masters Bronze title
Re: masters titles belts
There's already the English, Scottish, Welsh, Celtic, Southern area, Midlands area, Central area and Northern area titles below the British title, more than enough there to get fights on, I'd actually like to see the Central area merged into the Northern area, more fighters available to fight for the title then.standing8 wrote:The BBBOC could make an inter-area belt instead, for fighters with less than 15 bouts???? max 8x3 rdsmaley1984 wrote:Yeah thats wat ive heard. Re: masters titles belts
check the baords website and see how many area belts are vacant, if they are 'Held' when were they last contested?expe wrote:There's already the English, Scottish, Welsh, Celtic, Southern area, Midlands area, Central area and Northern area titles below the British title, more than enough there to get fights on, I'd actually like to see the Central area merged into the Northern area, more fighters available to fight for the title then.standing8 wrote:The BBBOC could make an inter-area belt instead, for fighters with less than 15 bouts???? max 8x3 rdsmaley1984 wrote:Yeah thats wat ive heard. Re: masters titles belts
I think its a good thing as they are only there for old washed up fighters and journeymen to say they won titles. Area titles are great but there w

ay to many nonsense titles around like the masters!?
Re: masters titles belts
It's about time, and I agree I hope it does go back to area titles, defend those belts and build a reputation instead of fighting for a title that they will never defend and will not help their career in any way in the future.

Harry Matthews will be fuming. If he does win one, he'll only have it for the weekend.Terry Dooley wrote:I'll miss them. What's the reason for them being discontinued?

Re: masters titles belts
It's June that they will end, I believe.
Robert Smith has sent a circular around stating that the board has never endorsed Masters titles and it feels that their existence is "detrimental to the sport".

I don't agree with the above.Rexob wrote:I think its a good thing as they are only there for old washed up fighters and journeymen to say they won titles. Area titles are great but there way to many nonsense titles around like the masters!?
Although all boxers may dream of being a World Champion, only a very small minority will ever go on to win a British title or above.
For the majority of domestic boxers these titles provide a great opportunity for them to be competitive, and win a title - why deprive them of their day in the sun ?
Re: masters titles belts
maybe there maybe an introduction of a new belt, similar?

I agree. For the purist I understand why Masters Belts are disliked. For the small hall shows it does give certain boxers their World Cup Final.bripez wrote:I don't agree with the above.Rexob wrote:I think its a good thing as they are only there for old washed up fighters and journeymen to say they won titles. There are major problems and legal issues between Bruce Baker (who runs the masters) and the board. The board have suspended these titles from 31st May. It may or may not have something to do with the litigation but it is to the detriment of small hall boxing to remove the Masters titles.
Boxers who have had 5-8 fights and are not fighting for a "title" struggle to sell tickets and the masters belts help to re invigorate ticket sales for the boxers.
I see both sides of the argument but I think what is happening is that the Board obtains its revenue to survive from the big promoters and they want an elite club. Can see some of the smaller promoters going to other licencing bodies. To be honest I dont think the board will care in fact I think the Boards business model works better with fewer but bigger promoters.
Re: masters titles belts
Some fair points there, to be honest I neve rhad an issue with the proper British Master title but making a a prospect v journeyman 8 rounder fight sound like its going to be competitive by sticking a 'bronze masters' on it is just ripping fans off. Mind you if they're dumb enough to think that they probably deserve it!

Interesting point about the BBBofC business model - it is almost as if their actions of threatening to ban boxers who are just looking to box is almost forcing them towards other sanctioning bodies (which is what they ultimately want, by only focussing on those boxers with the bigger promoters) ......
Re: masters titles belts
I am not sure that happens mate - the "prospects" tend not to fight for these titles, they are mostly contested by more evenly matched boxers - the lads who do not necessarily get the breaks or opportunities and want to box for a title.ste1983 wrote:Some fair points there, to be honest I neve rhad an issue with the proper British Master title but making a a prospect v journeyman 8 rounder fight sound like its going to be competitive by sticking a 'bronze masters' on it is just ripping fans off. Re: masters titles belts
its been happening plenty by me lately, the original British Masters tended to be more like you say but these Bronze versions are almost always contested by a prospect v journeyman. Des Bowater (6-0 going in) and Lennox Clarke (6-0 going in) both won one each in Walsall Saturday just gone in both fighters first 8 rounder against opponants with 6-40 and 2-2-2 records.bripez wrote:I am not sure that happens mate - the "prospects" tend not to fight for these titles, they are mostly contested by more evenly matched boxers - the lads who do not necessarily get the breaks or opportunities and want to box for a title.ste1983 wrote:Some fair points there, to be honest I neve rhad an issue with the proper British Master title but making a a prospect v journeyman 8 rounder fight sound like its going to be competitive by sticking a 'bronze masters' on it is just ripping fans off. Not picking on that show in particular (I'm a fan of both Bowater and Clarke) just the latest example.

Yeah saw that and the tickets r the same price for an eliminator, area title fight and masters title and full undercard in cannock this Saturday . Only 3 fights which we knew the result b4 the show in walsall .
My cuz won the british masters against unbeaten liam richards 6-0 at the time both were unbeaten at the time of the fight not often that happened. Tho chris did hav a lad pull out of 2 area title fights against him ( the lad retired unbeaten )so had to go that route to get rounds in the bank to push towards the english title.

That Cannock show looks good mate you going? I can't make it bit gutted as one of the best matched shows I've seen locally for a while.
Like I say I didn't mind the original British Masters belt at all a lot of the time the fight was equilivent (or nearly) to an area title fight just happened they may not have been from the same area council. And I do understand promoters points, think us fans have to take some responsibility (well some of us) if sticking a bronze masters belt on a fight makes you more likely to buy a ticket to watch the fight or support your mate whos boxing then give your head a wobble!
Re: masters titles belts
Yeah im going cannock show looks good a good card. Spot on i agree about the masters comments

Re: masters titles belts
It's the only title where you have to buy the belt if you win it lol
Re: masters titles belts
Pretty sure this is the case with area titles tooDarcy Delaney wrote:It's the only title where you have to buy the belt if you win it lol
Re: masters titles belts
Nope its not with area titles,if you want to buy one afterwards a commerative one you can.The masters you have to buy the belt. Also the area if you defend it twice you get to win it well at least in the midlands you do
