GGG vs Pavlik
GGG vs Pavlik
both prime, so, the ggg of now and the pavlik of the taylor fight. what happens.
dont forget, as strong as ggg is, pavlik was a giant, standing 6'2, with aggressiv style and long reach and bang behind his punches.
I would favour ggg, but ggg isnt the kind of mover like martinez, who won against faded pavlik, gg stands infront of you and trades, where palik himself is very dangerous.

Re: GGG vs Pavlik
I don't know it would be a good scrap, as Pavlik had the pop in his punches to GGG off of him, be we will never know as Pavlik is ancient history and his prime is never coming back.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
Pavlik gets battered. His defense was horrible.

power wise they are about the same, prime for prime anyway. skills wise ggg is way better. size however; pavlik is much bigger. Pavlik would have a punchers chance, that's all

Golovkin would blast him out of the ring.

Pavlik was a lion at 160....before martinez....before the booze and the weight gain. Ggg is a bad ass but so was Pavlik, 50/50 fight maybe ggg slight favorite.

U may be right but Pavlik fought a lister's and ggg has been in with the lost hopes. When u have ggg talent and fight dudes he's been in against you're gonna look amazing.

Never thought about but now that you mention it Pavlik fought a way higher level of competition.hurricanemitch14 wrote:U may be right but Pavlik fought a lister's and ggg has been in with the lost hopes. When u have ggg talent and fight dudes he's been in against you're gonna look amazing.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
Yeah, it's not like Martinez' promoter didn't openly keep Sergio away from GGG or anything, or that Pavlik didn't taste the canvas against the B listers he fought.

Re: GGG vs Pavlik
When Pavlik was champ what b fighter dropped him? Taylor was prime back then. Im not worried about who got dropped early in their career.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
The only better opposition Pavlik didn't lose to was Taylor. There is nobody else who stands out.victor-romeo wrote:Never thought about but now that you mention it Pavlik fought a way higher level of competition.hurricanemitch14 wrote:U may be right but Pavlik fought a lister's and ggg has been in with the lost hopes. Your key word is didn't lose. The word I used is better opposition .ikorolev wrote:The only better opposition Pavlik didn't lose to was Taylor. Miranda was a much better fighter before Pavlik KO'd him
Pavlik fought Martinez tough even putting Martinez down and not losing by much.
and then of Course the Hopkins wipe out fought 10 pounds over Pavliks best at a catch weight of 170.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
Sure but I think one of the keys to beating GGG could be to avoid taking punishment, and Pavlik was there to be hit.hurricanemitch14 wrote:Pavlik was a lion at 160....before martinez....before the booze and the weight gain. Ggg is a bad ass but so was Pavlik, 50/50 fight maybe ggg slight favorite.
Taylor put Pavlik down while Spinks and Ouma was able to avoid his assault. Imagine what GGG would do.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
I don't even view this as a fair fight, 3G will obliterate him.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
... and Golovkin would stop Martinez by using better footwork than Pavlik.victor-romeo wrote:Your key word is didn't lose. The word I used is better opposition .ikorolev wrote: The only better opposition Pavlik didn't lose to was Taylor. There is nobody else who stands out.

You don't need too much handspeed when you can hit as hard as Pavlik: it would certainly be a great match I would die to watch.Chepppaaa wrote: ↑23 Feb 2015, 19:08 both prime, so, the ggg of now and the pavlik of the taylor fight. what happens.

GGG, against Pavlik, would be tested in a way he has never been tested yet.
It's fair to say that Canelo, with all due respect, would've probably ducked someone like a peaking Pavlik, and I would understand him...
Because GGG never came toe-to-toe with the likes of Pavlik, it's very hard to say how the match could've gone: I have a lot of respect for both: both kept facing dangerous opposition for a considerably long period of time, but I feel that the Canelo who beat GGG, would struggle more against Pavlik.
Pavlik would give more than a problem to any middleweight champion in history, and so would do GGG, but Pavlik would keep coming at GGG as relentlessly as no GGG's opponent has done, and, sooner or later, he would unhinge GGG's less-than-tightest guard.
So, I might be a voice from outside the choir, but I'd pick Pavlik.
There are fighters who will be acknowledged only past their own era (like Mayweather Jr.), and fighters who will be scaled down after their era: I believe that GGG belongs in the second category.

Re: GGG vs Pavlik
Probably a tough fight for both but I think that GGG would try to box Pavlik and also target his long body. The 2007 version of Pavlik that beat Miranda and Taylor was a killer.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
i believe prime, sober pavlik was tremendous.
no easy fight for 3G. i have it very close in his
favour.

Re: GGG vs Pavlik
This matchup has Fight of the Year written all over it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that GGG stays in shape between fights. He lives the life of an athlete at all times not just in training camp.
Pavlik never lived that life, he got in shape during training camp.
There is a difference.
For these hypothetical matches between two high level boxers if I have the above information I don't need a lot of analysis beyond that.
The boxer who lives the life of an athlete everyday is better prepared for a tough night than the one who does not.
I favor GGG in a fight of the year type event.

I thought this was a recent poll and Ikoralev had returned. He was unshakable in his conviction that GGG would kill anybody and would get enraged if you dared to question Golovkin’s invincibility.ikorolev wrote: Except GGG is way craftier.
I wonder what happened to him.
