So lets make things clear. Cotto's best Purses are as follows. (IF SOMETHING IS WRONG POST IT SO I CAN EDIT IT)
Vs Pacquiao 12 Million + PPV Share (2009) - 34 Million Purse Bid
Vs Mayweather 8 Million + PPV Share (2012) - 40 Million Purse Bid
Vs Sergio Martinez 7 Million + PPV Share (2014) - 8,5 Million Purse Bid
Vs Margarito II 5 Million + PPV Share (2011) - 7,5 Million Purse Bid
Vs Margarito I 3 Million + PPV Share (2008) - ???
Vs Zab Judah 2,5 Million + PPV Share (2007) - ???
So according to Arum Cotto's Possible opponents for June are --> Timothy Bradley,Brandon Rios,Cornelius Bundrage.
*Bradley has been in many PPV fights and in his last Non-PPV fight against a not so much known Opponent (Chavez) got paid 2 Million, I am 100% sure if they make this fight it will be on HBO PPV, But how much money will cotto earn from such a fight? I estimate his Purse to be a maximum of 5-6 Million while the PPV buys will be VERY VERY poor, Financial wise for Cotto this could be a good alternative after the Canelo fight got cancelled.
*The Brandon Rios fight will also probably be HBO PPV fight and will be much worse Financial wise than the Bradley one.
*The Cornelius fight SURELY cant be on PPV, because it wont even sell 100K Buys.. Zero Financial sense.
So for me there is an available opponent that could make the most Financial sense for Cotto than any of these other guys that I just mentioned, and it is no other than Gennady Golovkin.
When GGG vs Chavez jr fight was announced last year the TripleG team was willing to give most of the purse to chavez jr who would earn a Career high of 12 MILLION Dollar Purse GUARANTEE to fight GGG.. Unfortunately the fight didnt happen..
Now Cotto is a BIGGER attraction than Chavez Jr, He has been in so many PPV fights fought the most popular guys in the sport which means that he could easily earn about 12-15 Million + PPV share which could be More than 500K Buys.. That is more than ANY OTHER PAYDAY COTTO HAS EVER RECEIVED...
So why not take the fight? He is 34 years old and GGG is about to become 33.. There is not much of a difference.. otherwise Vacate and go back to 154 instead of fighting Bradleys and K9s for the 160 title for less money..

Re: Best Money option for Miguel Cotto
Miguel's best money fights are probably as listed:
1)Floyd II (unlikely now with the Manny fight, but I'll list it)
2)Saul
3)Manny II (unlikely, but I'll list it)
4)GGG
Thing is while GGG could be a makeable fight right now Miguel likely affects the $$$ he'd make for the 3 superior fights with a bad outcome vs GGG if not lose out on those fights & I believe the fight with Saul is a fight that WILL BE made unlike the other two options thus he's flushing money down the toilet unless he beats GGG.
From a purely business pov it makes zero sense to fight GGG before Saul, cuz he can still command solid money from a GGG fight if he loses to Saul, but he won't be able to command as solid money vs Saul if he lost to GGG first. And if he wins vs either guy his money just goes up vs either guy. So if I'm Miguel's advisor I tell him to sit on a GGG fight til after Saul win or lose.

If Cotto doesnt face ggg now and faces Bradley etc. Assuming he wins he will HAVE to face golovkin in the fall as WBC mandated.. If he vacates and goes for canelo the fight will not have a title at stake which makes the bout less marketable.. not saying that he will earn more with GGG but not that much of more money

Re: Best Money option for Miguel Cotto
I trust abc orgs to hold their word as much as I'd trust a pedo to watch my kid. Mark my words if the Saul vs Miguel fight can be made in the second half of 2015 the abc org will quickly find a reason to allow Saul vs Miguel to happen over Miguel vs GGG cuz Saul's nickname might as well be Money just like Floyd's. And the abc orgs get a % so they get paid more for that fight. Simple math equation here.Aaronide_ger wrote:If Cotto doesnt face ggg now and faces Bradley etc. Assuming he wins he will HAVE to face golovkin in the fall as WBC mandated.. And worse case if an abc org has suddenly decided to choose integrity over money Miguel can drop the belt & still fight Saul for bigger money. I think abc belts mean less & less each day we move forward so less marketable without a belt means less & less & Saul is possibly the #2 ppv draw in the sport today. And what we are really comparing in this scenario is what hurts Miguel more $$$ wise. Fighting Saul AFTER losing to GGG or fighting Saul with no belt on the line. I think Miguel makes nicer money fighting Saul without a belt & without another L vs fighting Saul without a belt & with an extra L.
Basically though I'd take the bet that Miguel fights Saul before GGG all day every day right now. Miguel seems to have a smart advisor/manager & their leaving more money on the table by not fighting Saul first.

So you believe we wont see GGG fighting any PPV draw aince 2016? (Chavez wont fight him in 2015 im sure)
If WBC does something like this they will get bashed.. anyway i think you are right for the most part

Re: Best Money option for Miguel Cotto
I think its still a lil early for a PPV for GGG. The perfect PPV for GGG for me would be vs Saul in May of 2016. Assuming they both keep winning I think there is a good chance that goes down & that has biggest fight of 2016 potential on it. I'd guess that'll probably be his first PPV. Outside of Saul I don't see a PPV worthy or likely fight outside of Miguel & like I said I just don't see that happening right now. If theres any chance it happens it'll happen in June cuz thats the only window for it I foresee unless Saul loses to Kirkland.Aaronide_ger wrote:So you believe we wont see GGG fighting any PPV draw aince 2016? The abc orgs are used to bad press. I think many people just don't care at this point . I used to get up in arms all the time about abc nonsense, but at a certain point whats the point. The fighters, the promoters & the TV channels still care about the abc orgs & they probably still care cuz enough fans still care about them. When enough fans don't care about the abc orgs I imagine the fighters, promoters & TV channels won't care that much either. Its getting to that point, but not soon enough for me.
Re: Best Money option for Miguel Cotto
I see a non PPV stay busy fight for Cotto in NY in June.
Miguel's aim is to look spectacular to keep himself viable for a Fall date with Floyd, Manny, or Saul (in that order, unless Pacquiao upsets Mayweather).
It is all about the money these last few fights for Miguel.

Very true. Cotto knows very well he needs to milk it for all its worth. (His 160 belt) It just looks horrible for a 160 champ fighting a welterweight, even for a tune up. I read K9 is game for the fight vs Cotto. He is about 40, but a 154lber, so at least it will look better on paper.

Well you'd think it would have to be GGG or Canelo the WBC must strip him if he doesn't fight GGG sooner rather that later.
