Ability-wise maybe, but he doesn't have the record to be No. 1 yet.
Stuarty30 wrote:Yeah Callum looks the business. Maybe Hearn could persuade AA to take on Callum later in the year providing he gets by Sturm which won't be easy. I don't know what the situation is with Mandatories concerning AA because Smith was a voluntary and I'm assuming Sturm is the same?
Callum Smith's not WBO ranked yet, I'd like to see it though.
Yeah I was just going on ability as his calibre of opponent isn't as good as others but I think that will change this year. The WBO situation with AA is strange. He fought Steiglitz 3 times and Smith twice, some other second tier guys now Sturm! Do you know if Cal Smith is ranked with any of the sanctioning bodies?

Groves has better recent form than Murray has. Groves did better against Froch than Murray did against Golovkin (although that fight doesn't count in this month's rankings).

Groves is a world class fighter and so is Murray. I've got Groves one place higher than Murray.

I don't think many people would think having Groves above Murray is unjustifiable.

Murray has arguments for victory in Germany against WBA champion Felix Sturm,

And he also was the winner on Argentine TV scorecards for flooring and pushing Martinez to the wire in front of 50,000 Argentines and a thunder storm for the WBC and Ring title.

And you cite a 11-0 Degale and Sierra - and two back to back stoppage losses for Groves as being superior. Froch wiped him out cold - Murray was on his feet against many's P4P top 3 in GGG.

Recent form says GG has lost his edge big time, and I doubt you find a single person that says he has looked better since facing Froch.

He shouldn't be in the top 10. Never won a belt, never had an argument for winning one either. And he's not even a lock to win Dirrell's.

Groves looked no worse against Rebrasse and Dougin than Martin Murray did against Spada and Khomitsky.

Hes done far more than George Groves who was lucky to beat Degale imo and is living off 4 good rounds against Froch
Mcdonnell has beating Napa ...Went to France to beat Arnould beat a once beaten Jamoye and then future world champ in Stuart Hall...beat a very good Ceja for i.b.f then won a second "world title....

Murray vs Martinez was 22 months ago, it's not really recent any more.

Groves was in the ring less than 4 months after getting sparked by Froch and beat Rebrasse very widely. He's not looked as bad as many make out, he won both of his recent fights fairly easily.

He's been a British, Commonwealth and European champion.

Poor old Horse, he can't win.
Spends months justifying Murray's high position and now he has dropped him down slightly, he is having to justify Murray's new position.

McDonnell beat Napa over 5 years ago and most thought he was lucky to get the win. McDonnell beat Arnould for the European title 5 years ago next month and his win against Jamoye was over 4 years ago.

McDonnell was in my top 10 back when he was beating Jamoye and Hall, but he hasn't had a good win since he beat Ceja 1 year and 9 months ago.

He doesn't deserve to be in the top 10 right now.

I think Taffytoon is involved with Cleverly somehow and I used to slag off Cleverly when he was fighting abysmal opposition as WBO champion.
