Better off Oop North. Could easily sell 20/30k up there

History repeating itself.

It was acceptable for Ricky Hatton to lose to Floyd and Pac but he wouldn't have been able to live with himself if that kid from the Ingles gym beat him.

Well done stevedoc for recycling one of Ricky's excuses ("wouldn't give him the payday"). Khan's already used "wait until he wins a world title" but he's struggling with Ricky's "it's written into my contract" whopper.

Thurman would be a great fight for Khan and one which could go either way imo , just not a mega-bucks fight and one which he could quite possibly lose

He doesn't want the fight now, I'm sure there's every chance they'll meet down the line. They'll make enough out of it.

If they do meet later down the line, it means brook will have kept on improving and be entitled to a bigger percentage of the purse. If it's made today khan will take at least 60%, in a year he's looking at 50% possibly less

Because he may not get the Mayweather fight anyway ... Floyd could lose and retire , He could win and go for a rematch .. If Khan only wants the big fights , take away paccy and Floyd , and what do you have a world title fight with Brooks ,, Personaly i would of thought a world title is a big fight ..

Then again my missis always says i live in the past

How would he get £20m against Mayweather? If Mayweather beats Pacquiao, his stock and demands will go up. He will be throwing out around 10% of the purse for his opponent especially if they don't bring anything extra to the table. Khan doesn't as Mayweather is already known by the UK market. If sky decide to put Mayweather Pacquiao on PPV, Mayweather will have also (probably) have been involved in 2 PPVs in the UK that have had higher buy rates than any of Khan's ppvs.

The above is assuming that Mayweather wins and then that he doesn't re-match Pacquiao and that he doesn't then retire.

Why get a job when you can sit around waiting to win the lottery?

If Khan is so confident of beating Brook like he says he is, why not take the fight, take the £5mil, take the IBF belt, gain respect and popularity for taking the fight, give the fans another big UK fight and put himself in a much better position to negotiate with the Floyd V Manny winner to unify all the belts??? It's the most obvious fight I can think of in all of boxing!

Khan is a little worried about fighting Kell I'm sure of that. His excuse is that Brook has not fought anyone, not in my league, etc. etc. is a mere smokescreen for his concerns. For the moment yes he has shot himself in the foot as Kell is the last belt holder he could potentially fight now. As daft as people think Khan is (as yes he is a bit thick), he has a team around him that can see the bigger picture. 1 option and the likely one for me, is Brook losing his belt soon enough and sadly I think he will. I mean if Khan can beat the fighter that takes Kell's belt then he can then say I don't need to fight him and he'd be the first to say that I'm sure :DD.
There is a whiff of Witter/Hatton here, not quite as hateful but avoidance tactics nonetheless.

There is no risk to Khan as he clearly thinks he's levels above Brook and the reward is the IBF world title, but i see what your saying.
And a very high reward so this term doesn't apply to this fight IMO.
It's more the "reward" he may miss out on should he slip up on a Brook banana skin.

So he's already talked about fights against either Mayweather or Manny, whether he deserves those fights is neither here nor there.

No disrespect to Brook but he's not as well known as either of those three in the US nor does he generate as much money as a fight with either of those would do. Yes, Hearn has bandied around some figures and dropped in some buzzwords like massive, stadium, summer etc but they're largely meaningless.

So the risk is high, as Khan may stand a chance of being sparked out by someone with a much lower profile in the US/outside the UK than Khan himself, nevermind the other two.

The potential reward of a win, well what is it? What's the potential reward of a fight (nevermind the result) with the other two?

If he loses to Mayweather or Manny, most would just shrug and go oh well, he wasn't as good as them. He's back on the treadmill again. A loss to Brook and the majority of people go who? He's a lot more rebuilding to do, potentially career ending.

Orbtastic, there is a very high risk of the fight with Mayweather never actually happening.

Do you really think Khan would get more than $8m (roughly £5m) fighting Mayweather? I fail to see a business case for Khan getting the kind of money he wants against Mayweather. Does he really bring anything more to the table than Thurman would or that Guerrero/Maidana etc have in the past? He's definitely not bringing anything like Alvarez did and he was reportedly only given a $5m guaranteed purse.

Barring Pacquiao (and maybe GGG), does the name of Mayweather's opponents really matter?

I think the fight between Mayweather & Khan is a good fight by the way (one which Mayweather wins fairly clearly) but i don't see it as some huge payday for Khan. For me, Brook is more beatable and £5m is pretty much as much as he will get against Mayweather.

Yes, but this is Khan we're dealing with. He doesn't realise that (or acknowledge it).

If I were him, I'd get the Brook fight made rather than waiting around to be perennial bridesmaid to those two.

Taking Bradley instead of Brook

Post by Crease »

danamba7 wrote:Why fight Bradley for say £1mil in a 3/4 full MGM for no belt
Because Bradley is recognized as a world-class operator and has been for well over five years now. Bradley has an impressive resume:
He's had 12 World Title fights - and he's only (officially) lost one. Additionally look at the list of names that Tim hs defeated:
Pacquaio, Marquez, Alexander, Holt & Junior Witter.

Undeniably that is a more comprehensive resume that Brook edging a majority decision against Shawn Porter in a single World Title contest.
danamba7 wrote:when you can fight Brook in a football stadium in England for £5mil for the IBF strap!?!?
I seriously doubt that a Khan/Brook fight would sell-out a football stadium. There's just not enough interest in it yet for that to be feasible. I think that some boxing fans get carried away by the success of Froch/Groves II and fail to recognise that that particular fight had all the ingredients to capture the public's imagination. I just don't think that there has been enough of a build up to Khan/Brook or there's enough bad blood to make it a guaranteed megafight.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't put Wembley for a reason. But it could definitely sell out a smaller stadium. It's too big for the o2 arena. I think 40 odd thousand at a nice middle-of-the-country ground like Leicesters ground would be good but would never happen. Reebok stadium might be a good one to get Amir more interested. Bramall lane would also be good but Amir wouldn't fight there.

Khan vs Brook at a football ground:

I don't know, it's difficult. Your entitled to your opinion and I respect what you're saying, I'm just not too sure that it would sell out a 40k stadium.

I think it comes down to the fact Khan genuinely believes Mayweather is ready for the taking and desperately wants to be the man that nabs the undefeated record from him. In Khan's brain, beating a 38 or 39 year old Floyd Mayweather totally redeems him and makes him an all-time great. He'll be dining off that result for the rest of his life.

One well-timed right hand from Kell Brook could nix the whole game, and make the enduring image of Amir Khan being the one where he is laying prone on the canvas, eyes glazed.

Fight Mayweather or Pacquiao and get a big payday, win and he hits the jackpot, lose and the Brook fight is still there for more big money. Or fight Brook, where a win doesn't really do a lot for him when it comes to getting Floyd or Manny into the ring with him and a loss would more or less finish his career. It's a no brainer for him.

it will be a great fight...

but it may just be down to bragging rights ..... Khan probably sees himself a class above brook .. so may be khan wants a belt to even things up... its a wild guess but i like it :box: :box:

Khan is wanting the big name fighters and even though kell has a title he is still unknown in the US. Also khan is tailor made for brooks timing. He is wise to stay well away.

hoot wrote:lets weight this up. Floyd has the WBA +WBC world title, Manny has the WBO world title and Kell the IBF world title at 147lb.
So if Khan wants a world title at his chosen weight he has to fight one of above! Floyd and Manny are booked up 2nd May and will prob have a rematch!
Floyd stated that khan would not bring the fans in, so neither PBF or Manny seem remotely interested in the Khan fight.
There is no opponent on the horizon for Khan at 147lb? So he is looking at fighting Cotto at 154 or at catch weight! for probably small $$$ in comparison, what will this prove? it sounds like he missing the boat again! Khan says no body has heard of Kell Brook and he is not in his league (well I have)
Every news article on boxing, sky sports tv and boxing publication I read is chomping at the Bit for the Khan v Brook fight. all the boxing fans in America + Britain know Kell brook made history ripping the IBF title of Shawn porter in America, they see Kell Brook along with up and coming Kieth Thurman as the future of the 147lb division, So What is it with Khan
" Money" Eddie Hearn has offered Khan $5million+Wembley stadium sell out, and a date of 13th June 2015 "before Ramadan"
He has also offered Khan a chance to win the IBF World title + the lions share of the PPV or what ever revenue it is even though he is not the champion!
the winner of a Brook v Khan fight at Wembley, would have the bragging rights + blessing of Great Britain behind them, Amir Khan or Kell Brook would be without a shadow of a Doubt the best 147ld fighter we could put up against the elite yanks! Khan or Kell would then be the main money fight available for the winner of Mayweather or paquio probably in Las Vegas around December time.
"So What is the real reason Khan Will not fight Brook" O sorry he said he would at the end of the year! which buys him 9 month and gets the press off his back in the mean time something else may pop up? My Guess is he knows Kell Brook is a very dangerous fight for him and leave him in a bad place with a loss to kell ' the fact is unless Khan steps up he runs the risk of Brook taking on a big name in summer and being the peoples champion and maybe just maybe kell gets the Mayweather fight instead of Khan. Thoughts!!
