Tyson Fury has been carefully matched

Post by Freedom2013 »

Tyson Fury has avoided anyone who might be a threat.

- Tony Thompson offered to fight him several times, but Fury ignored his requests & chose smaller men.
- Fury was offered a final IBF eliminator vs. Kubrat Pulev, but said no
- Klitschko offered Fury a fight, but Fury's management said "not yet" and so Wladimir fought Wach
- Before Price fought Thompson, he wanted to fight Fury, but was avoided
- Fury pulled out of the fight with Ustinov after seeing Ustinov at the weigh-in

Fury's record is largely against small HWs and cruiserweights like Cunningham, who put him on the floor. Fury had to use dirty, illegal tactics to defeat Cunningham.

Now Fury is fighting a light-punching guy in Hammer, who has some boxing skills but is no real threat at all (never mind how the WBO ranks him, he's not really the third best heavyweight).

Prediction: Fury will avoid Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko, and then say they are ducking him. :OhYes:

agreed

IMHO i don't think he takes the sport seriously like he should ... he seems not bothered apart from calling out everyone who as ever fought as a HW... maybe he thinks his size alone will take care of most opponents ... mind you he did train hard for Haye ...but he needed to cos i think Haye would have KO'd him

The huge amount of money he was supposed to make for that one must have made him feel the KO loss would be worth it.

Mismatched on most occasions. Carefully matched is very polite.

Eh, I can't make too much of it. Tyson has potential. Wladimir has dominance. Wlad keeps a pretty active schedule thus he's getting to some of his younger opposition before they are at their peak or hell even deserve to fight him in some cases. Tyson turned pro at 20. He's still only 26 which is a puppy for HW's. I can see Wlad calling on him early which could be a form of cherry picking, but since blah blah blah Wlad is rarely called on that. And I can see how it looks bad for Tyson to deny a title shot, I mean ffs its a title shot, but I think they have bigger plans (& who wouldn't in his position) & he's a lil green still despite being the #1 younger guy in the division imho. Being "the guy" post-Wlad is gonna make someone a HUGE amount of money so I can see Tyson's side trying to grab that position.

Eh, it is what it is. They will fight sooner or later.

So are you saying boxing sucks in that he's just knocked over bowling pins with a dump truck but is still somehow the top guy or worse case among the top couple guys by virtually every independent ranking group?

He chose to fight Haye for £5m over Pulev, he can't be blamed for that. He wasn't ready for Wlad at that stage, they were right to turn it down, it was probably shit money for a fight like that too. He pulled out of the Ustinov fight because his Uncle was dying in hospital and his wife had a miscarriage. Him and Price were on different TV channels with different promoters, both would have lost their TV deal if they had fought on the other channel, it was a non starter. Thompson meant nothing before Price, after that Fury was meant to be fighting Haye so it wasn't going to happen, then he was fighting Chisora.

He knocked Cunningham out cold.

Hammer is a keep busy fight before he fights for a world title.

Losing to Wlad doesn't mean that he can't be the man after Wlad's gone.

I don't see the logic in dodging Wlad. Povetkin lost to him a year ago, but he's still clearly a top 3 ranked guy.

Take the money and see if you can land a peach on his chin. Fury should definitely try his luck against Wladimir this year.

That is not what I said. I just don't believe he has been tested by many good heavies, or put in many 60/40s let alone 50/50's.

I know you didn't say it, but you are implying independent ranking groups & people who live & die boxing suck for ranking a guy the top guy or among them for simply beating guys he could never lose to.

I mean why should a guy be rewarded with being a top guy if he's only beating guys who suck? Or are you saying Tyson is such an exceptional boxer his opponents don't have a chance?

Where did I say that?

I do think turning down the fight earlier was the move to make. Like it or not a 0 in the L column is big in boxing & Tyson was too young/green/ungroomed/whatever you wanna call it.

Now its a different story. I expect we'll get Wlad vs Tyson this year.

And when I'm talking about positioning him I think you are positioning him to have the best shot at beating Wlad. That wasn't when he was first offered the fight. Thus I don't see that as a dodge in anyway. If Floyd offered a title shot to Errol Spence tomorrow I couldn't sh!t on Errol if he turned that fight down as he isn't giving himself the best possible chance at winning that fight by taking it so early in his career. I would see that as a legit cherry picking situation when a long standing champ offers an unproven or lesser proven prospect a shot. If he took it fair enough, but I'd never sh!t on anyone for not taking the fight in that sorta situation.

again i didn't say they sucked, but they are not in Fury's league. I appreciate he is youngish still, but i think only chisora has posed a real threat.

The heavy division is hardly stacked, so perhaps that doesn't help the situation but even still i don't think he has been in many fights that are 60/40's. I really think the Haye fight would have told us all a lot, but sadly that didn't happen.

Idk that a lot of elite level promising prospects are ever in 60/40 fights til they get to a title fight or a fight or two from a title fight with how boxing is setup these days. I mean a quick look at Tyson's resume vs others resume you will quickly see a difference with Tyson's resume higher quality of opposition for where he was at in his career imho. If you are not seeing a higher quality of opposition please tell me all the HW's who make Tyson's resume look like a resume of dominos falling in unison to Tyson's fist.

By age 26, Fury has fought Chisora twice, Cunningham, and will fight Hammer tomorrow. I don't see any other 26-year-old heavyweights fighting and winning against that kind of opposition. When Vyacheslav Glazkov was 26, his four best professional opponents were Denis Bakhtov, Mark Brown, Alexey Varakin, and Ivan Shvayko. When Kubrat Pulev was 26, his four best professional opponents were nobody at all. When Alexander Povetkin was 26, his four best professional opponents were Friday Ahunanya, Willie Chapman, Richard Bango, and Cerrone Fox. Tyson Fury is fighting remarkably admirable opposition, and he is one of the dumbest choices of heavyweight fighters that you could be criticizing for soft opposition.

There we go some facts with a well written post.

You can't just say Tyson's resume isn't good while ignoring what everyone else is doing. You are either a Tyson hater or ignoring facts if you do.
