Are pac n floyd 1 and 2 at welterweight?

Post by Chepppaaa »

come to think about it how both would do against the third and fourth best welterweights in the world, i am talking about brook and thurman.

cause brook looked tremendous in his last fight and thurman is a powerhouse.

how would mayweather-brook/thurman and pacquiao-brook/thurman end up.

I mean, we talk of now, were floyd struggled with maidana and pacquia struggled with a 1 big punch. I think brook would win against maidana and thurman has more power than marquez, so.

Hard to say Thurman and Brooks are largely unproven.
At least in comparison to Pac and Floyd.

Both Brook and Thurman have looked good against limited opposition.
How that would relate to the 2 best fighters in the division is hard to judge at this time.
If I had to pick one or the other that could cause the upset I would pick Brooks
as the possible spoiler.I really want to see how Thurman does against Guerrero Saturday.
It could change my mind on him if he is very dominant.

But the fantasizing Certain styles against certain styles is moot if the opposition level is that
different. So far Brook and Thurman look very good. But only against guys that Pac or Floyd would of
looked way better against.

There's a grand canyon separating Mayweather and Pacquiao from Brook and Thurman.

This +1!!

Neither Brook nor Thurman has beaten any in the league of either fighter at this point, Kell has came the closest thus far and that's only because he's beaten Alexander. Keith has yet to step up to the plate with a legitimately respected contender though he has fought some rather difficult/stiff comp up to this point and has done fairly well.

Until either of them beat the likes of JMM, Khan (who is running like a little biatch from Kell) or Bradley then they will not be considered ready and thereby the canyon that Lackeos mentioned will keep them separated.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are in a different league altogether and stand head and shoulders above the rest.

I would agree with that statement 4 or 5 years ago, even 3. But now I'm not so sure. I do think Floyd and Manny are the best still, but think the gap has narrowed to maybe an averaged sized river. The Grand Canyon? no. I think guys like Thurman, Porter, Brook, maybe even Khan, would give them a real fight.

I sincerely hope both Manny and Floyd retire soon, so an up and comer doesn't beat them and claim they are the best, while knowing both Floyd and Manny are past their best. It happens though. When you are 36 and 38, anything can happen. Heavyweights seem to last the longest for some reason....less movement and reliance on reflexes maybe. SRL was totally shot at 34, and he had less fights than Floyd and by far less fights than Manny.

like badhusker said. years ago pac n may > anybody. but now. between maidana and thurman there isnt a great canyon between them and maidana brought floyd to a near loss, some say draw. i would even favour thurman against maidana. they punch equaly hard, but bottum line for me is that thurman has a better jab, and moves better than thurman. than brook, he is technicly on another level than guys like maidana or guerrero. he has very good upper body movemant, fights with patient and is very accurate.

also, dont forget, brook and thurman are young either entering or in prime. pac is 70 % of what he used to be and floyd lost his leg movemant compared to the past.

record dont mean much, look at a guy like bertebiev, he got like 7 fights, but he could fight kovalev or adonis, who got around 25 fights and proven on high level and yet still there would be quiet a view people that would favour bertibiev against both, why? because dude is build like a cruiserweight and punches like a bear.

 he went life and death with Carson Jones not so long ago and his only win of note was a razor thin win over Porter. Pacquiao would make a mess of Brook even at 40 years old. Totally different calibre of fighter. Brook needs to keep on working he might get to Bradley's level.

According to Porter, he would gladly step in the ring with Pac since he knows what he can do from sparring with him.

Anyone who has sparred with an elite level boxer thinks they can compete with them.
Sparring and an actual fight are 2 different things.
Nothing Porter has done makes me think he can hang with Pac

He was unfit and massively unprepared for that fight (his own fault). I usually don't buy those type of excuses but the 2nd Jones fight proved it to be true. Don't make out that Brook is only at that level. I also don't get this "razor thin" opinion on the Porter fight. Pressure shouldn't win you fights alone. Surely you have to land shots? Porter barely landed anything clean on Brook all night. Brook shook Porter twice and landed a few other classy combinations. Very commendable performance away from home in my opinion.

My point is that either Brook or Porter would be a very competitive fight with Pacquiao. A 40 yr old Pac would make a mess of Brook? Bit of a stretch I think. Porter said he had a lot of success sparring with Pac, but we all know it is just sparring. Style-wise it would be a good one to watch. I don't think any of these guys would beat Floyd or Pac, but do think it would be competitive. They are much better than Rios or Algieri.

Who cares if Porter would do better than Rios or Algieri?
Neither were suppose to give any trouble.Porter is barely a step up.
Another confidence builder for PAC is all that fight would be.

Mayweather struggled with Maidana in the first fight so does that mean he's at that level now?
Brook would time Pac the same way Marquez did to knock him out, Kell is too big for Pac and has no weaknesses which is why Khan is sh1t scared of him. When Kell gets a big name in the summer and gets another win he'll get more credit, if he was American many on here would be worshipping him...

ohh please stop the nonse will you. brad is an overrated midget, who choose so many times wrong game planes, who has absoluty 0 power, who is easy to hit. who is physicly a light welterweight. dude has no business against top welterweights. the much bigger kieth would tko him inside 5. brook totaly outbox brad. as for kahn, no chin, gets clecked by both ofm.

welterweight division

Bradley has beaten nearly everyone that has been in front of him except Pacquiao. Plus how is he a physically a light welter when he clearly drained to light welter after fighting as a 152lb amateur?

I think Bradley probably deserves to be ranked where he is and I favor him against any welter not named Manny or Floyd. Maidana presents problems for any welter as well, and out of everyone else save the top 2 only Thurman gives Marcos any real problem match-upwise. Collazo had enough moments against Khan to assure me that if Amir faced this version of Maidana he would not fare as well as the narrow escape he managed at the lower weights. And while Brook did get a victory against Porter, I think that was more a case of what Shawn didn't do (and what Brook was allowed to do) than anything Kell did so great skill-wise. I don't think Maidana lets Kell off so easy.

I think right now, Thurman is the only real threat outside the top 4 or 5 (which I have as Floyd, Manny, Bradley, JMM, Marcos)

okay, i will now explain you some things.

bradley is a 5'6 feather fisted midget, who beat light welterweights, who are also to small, height wise and physicly wise for welterweight, provod 5'6 and marquez 5'6.
neither provod nor marquez have ever beaten a big full blown welterweight. bradley is so bad at welterweight that he cant even convincingly beat a nobody like diego, who got wrecked in 10 by thurman.

thurman is a 5′ 7½″ big monster, with middleweight power. he can move well and improved in every segmant. thurman would laugh at bradley punches, were bradley would trumble by thurmans punches. physicly a total mismatch.

brook is an super athletic 5'9 boxer, who moves better, more fluid than bradley and same as thurman or other grown welterweight would laugh at bradley non excisting power. brook would pick him appart.
