Outside Belfast they might struggle with a stadium fight, but I can't see it being a problem over there.black panther wrote:Quigg is a much better fighter than Avalos but Frampton did look great; he was a level above Avalos.
It would have hilarious if after McGuigan said "just remember who the real world champion is" and Quigg had been a bit more quick witted and said "Yeah Guillermo Rigondeaux!"![]()
But I feel Quigg isn't enough of a draw to merit a stadium fight. They'd need a stacked undercard to even consider a stadium fight IMO.

I'm not a big fan of Framptons set up though. It's working for now but he is the star not Barry and not Shane. They need him more than vice versa.

Sorry mate, I appreciate it's your thread - but it feels I'm talking to a man who supports just one fighter who doesn't know a great deal about much else.
Avalos is and always will be... a nobody. His record is littered with nobodies and that WBO "title" is a random nabo or inter title, which probably fell out of one of his Piñata opponents.
Avalos is king of the bin men, the super bantam boss of the taxi rank.
Avalos is a nothing but small snack to Rigo - he would tattoo his face with shots for about 60 seconds and snap him like a bread stick inside the opening round.
Taking absolutely nothing away from Frampton whatsoever, I am a fan of the lad - what's not to like ?
But let's not pretend Avalos was anything whatsoever.
Re: Frampton
So what? I never get why people talk about stuff like this, Frampton seems perfectly happy. The test will come when gets his first loss, then we'll see how close they are, until then why worry about it? Who cares if McGuigan steals the limelight? I imagine it'd be nice to have the focus on someone else.lillywhite14 wrote:I'm not a big fan of Framptons set up though. It's working for now but he is the star not Barry and not Shane. Re: Frampton
Especially when its someone like Barry, he's a big part of why Frampton has the support he has, just being associated with the McGuigans is going to bring massive publicity, they're always going to be central in the promotion of the fight.SNG wrote:So what? Re: Frampton
Frampton looked awesome, just absolutely demolished a guy who should have posed problems. Does he beat Rigo? Possibly but I certainly wouldn't be throwing huge money at it.
Frampton annihilates Santa Cruz tho, I think that lad is the most over-rated of the lot.

Re: Frampton
Quigg beats Santa Cruz too, if he wasn't American/Mexican no one would give a fornicate about him. Quigg fight needs to be next for Frampton, would love to see him fight Santa Cruz after that, but Santa Cruz needs to grow a pair for that to happen, if it isn't him, then a couple more fights before fighting Rigo next summer.jameswilson wrote:Frampton looked awesome, just absolutely demolished a guy who should have posed problems. Re: Frampton
Frampton was devastating last night as I expected him to be,actually I expect nothing else when I watch him these days,he's such a well schooled boxer with strength, power, good whiskers and most importantly a good boxing brain plus with his team and fans he can bring Rigondeaux over here and definitely beat him
I'm not just going by last night, its something I believe every passing fight with both Carl and Rigo,Guillermo is one of my favs and a superb boxer technically but Frampton will bust him up I think,I know Rigo and Avalos are 2 different kettles but if Frampton were to employ similar tactics as he did last night then no way Rigondeaux copes with that,he might see the end but Carl will make far too uncomfortable for his liking and like most Cubans he'll moan, spoil and cry foul after Frampton's relentless pursuit has Rigo praying until the end, almost like Hatton-Tszyu
Avalos although outgunned was a stubborn SOB and no one can say he was beat before the bell rang,he didn't seem fazed by the crowd and did well to keep staying on the inside to slug it with Carl, sure Chris hasn't beat anyone to suggest he's all that but he is a capable, tough cookie and Frampton looked excellent in dismantling him
According to some twats over on CS,Frampton is overated and beat a bum![[icon_e_confused.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Avalos definitely wasn't a bum but one thing I will say is he boxed a bit daft and into Frampton's hands. Avalos with his huge reach advantage should have given Frampton something to think about.handsofstone wrote:Frampton was devastating last night as I expected him to be,actually I expect nothing else when I watch him these days,he's such a well schooled boxer with strength, power, good whiskers and most importantly a good boxing brain plus with his team and fans he can bring Rigondeaux over here and definitely beat him

I'v laboured the point a lot over the last 18 months but SBW is top heavy and you have Rigo, Frampton, S-C and Quigg as the top 4 then possibly a bit of a gap to Avalos and Martinez and Wake, and then a big gap to the rest. It means if those top 4 aren't fighting any of the names mentioned they get murdered for it or have to use the 'I'm avoided' line.
Re: Frampton
On the form of Quigg and Frampton in the past 18 months, anyone who thinks a fight between the two is 50-50 is misguided imo.
Frampton has shown himself to be a level above Quigg with his recent performances and i think Frampton would destroy Quigg.

Re: Frampton
Been a Frampton fan/believer for a while.....especially as I felt that those wins over Martinez (who was a far better fighter than he was given credit for) indicated that Carl was the real deal.
What makes Frampton a bit special for me is the way he is so often able to fight on exactly his own terms; he went right at Avalos last night when the American was looking to take a break/regroup and boxed patiently and countered smartly when Avalos was investing everything is surging forwards and throwing leather. Frampton works people out really quickly and switches between countering and aggression at precisely the right moments.
The result was that Avalos was pretty much demoralised and busted-up inside four rounds....Frampton had hardly broken sweat!
I want Frampton - Quigg next, Scott's better than Avalos mentally and technically and the winner of that fight should be able to get Santa Cruz or Rigo over here for a big decider. Scott looked like a man who had suddenly seen the scale of what lies ahead of him during the interviews...but he's a good fighter and will give Carl his best test to date.

Re: Frampton
For me its his control of distance, he has really short arms, Avalos had 4 or 5 inches in reach on him and he was beating him to the jab. His timing and judgement of distance is brilliant, probably developed as a result of having such short arms.Bodyshot3 wrote:Been a Frampton fan/believer for a while.....especially as I felt that those wins over Martinez (who was a far better fighter than he was given credit for) indicated that Carl was the real deal.

Agreed on that expe, Frampton gets himself in and out of range seamlessly and throws at exactly the right time. For me its his control of distance, he has really short arms, Avalos had 4 or 5 inches in reach on him and he was beating him to the jab. But I also think he reads fighters incredibly well and changes his style (often round by round) very effectively during fights. He did the same stuff against Martinez, surging in with his own power shots just when Kiko had expended a great deal of energy and was vulnerable and also being patient, accurate/telling with his counters and defensively compact when an opponent goes straight at him.
I really hope Scott and Carl can get this fight on....I think Scott would prove to be far cuter than either Avalos or Martinez in trying to push Carl back and he's probably a stronger and more robust guy than them as well. Be very interesting to see what Quigg could do having got close to Carl having expended less energy and taken less shots as well. It's a top fight.
Re: Frampton
and looking at the post fight interview last night Quigg and Frampton had great respect for each other , I don't see it as a 50/50 fight but Quigg is no mug and I expect him to put up a stern test .

Re: Frampton
Quigg takes a lot of stick on here because of his paper title and matchmaking since he won the Regular title but apart from getting KD from Arthur years ago and starting slow when he drew with Salinas, which I still think he won,he has looked pretty special too
The opposition has been poor but he's looked great in beating them, which is how great fighter would look in beating them so its gonna be a great fight,I pick Frampton but he's gonna be p4p material in my book

Re: Frampton
Agree completely - Quigg has taken the easy route too often with soft opposition (granted not his fault). When Frampton drags him into a tear up Quigg won't know what to do.liamlion wrote:On the form of Quigg and Frampton in the past 18 months, anyone who thinks a fight between the two is 50-50 is misguided imo.

Re: Frampton
Frampton proved himself as definitely a top two Super Bantamweights in the world with that resounding display. If Carl can consistently replicate that level of performance I'd be betting on him TKOing Quigg and I'd give him 50/50 odds against Rigondeaux.
Rating Quigg? My take.
I'd have to disagree. Quigg doesn't strike me as a power puncher (like Martinez) or a supremely skilled boxer... In those regards I would say he's decent (above average) but for me, his main attribute is his fitness. He looks incredibly fit and lean for this weight division, his engine has carried him through his fights.handsofstone wrote:Quigg takes a lot of stick on here because of his paper title and matchmaking since he won the Regular title but apart from getting KD from Arthur years ago and starting slow when he drew with Salinas, which I still think he won,he has looked pretty special too

Well, that's my analysis anyway.
Re: Frampton
For me it's Rigo > Frampton > Quigg > Santa-Cruz.
Purely an opinion as none have fought each other. However I do think Quigg is underrated on this forum and it would be a cracking fight with Carl.

Quigg
I've said it repeatedly, but it really does make you wonder how the WBA allow him away with it. And it does him no favours in gaining new fans or testing him as a fighter.Stevie wrote:Agree completely - Quigg has taken the easy route too often with soft opposition
I disagree. Scott has to take partial responsibility for the direction of his career. I've never once heard him complain about Eddie Hearn's management of him - and normally these things get out handily enough. The way that I perceive it is that Scott is all to happy to continue taking easier fights.Stevie wrote:(granted not his fault).

And your entitled to it, mate. I'm curious - who has Quigg beat and what has he shown you to make you think that he's better than Santa Cruz. I'd ranked Santa Cruz as the 3rd best at the weight.
Re: Frampton
No one to be honest mate. And I'll admit the above rankings are based on the fact I've seen more of Quigg than I have Santa-Cruz. But the times I have seen LSC, I haven't been overly impressed.Crease wrote:danamba7 wrote:For me it's Rigo > Frampton > Quigg > Santa-Cruz. Purely an opinion as none have fought each other.![]()

Santa Cruz
Fair enough. To my mind, Santa Cruz has beaten better opposition that Quigg and deserves to be ranked higher than him. One thing I don't like about LSC is that he's not ruthless enough. I'm convinced that he could have TKO'd Sead & Mijares, but he was too comfortable in accepting the UD.danamba7 wrote:No one to be honest mate.
