My Issue with Hearn

Post by rio »

1. He does not make the big fights between his Fighters.

He has the several of the best domestic lightweights, Mitchell, Burns, Cardle, Crolla, Coyle and Cambell. He has not made one fight in 3 plus years between any of them fighters. It a disgrace.
Even worse is the matchroom super middleweight division. Froch, Degale, C Smith, P Smith and Rocky Fielding. Again not one fight made. The only domestic fighter he seems to want them to fight is Groves who he does not promote. I have heard Hearn and JG say they would take the Groves fight tomorrow, which makes me think if they are ready for Groves then then surely they are ready for Degale but I have never once heard them mention that fight which would be very easy to make. And why Hearn has never made Fielding against either Smith I will never know, they have all fought on the same bill 3 or 4 times just never against each other, Huge Liverpool fight that. Hearn does not act in the best interest of Sky subscription viewers. I dont know how hes got away with not making a single fight between the fighters mentioned above.

2. If Frampton/Quigg does not get made it because of Hearns Ego.

Hearn needs to realize Quigg is the "B" side and brings little to the table, they have know room to negotiate, If Mcgugian wants it on ITV then thats what has to happen regardless if Hearn feels he could get more from Sky. Real fans know this is not a unification fight. Quigg is not a world champion. Frampton has the name (been on ITV), sells the tickets and is the legitimate world champion. Imagine if Quigg had that fight with Avelos with that under card in Manchester, he wouldn't sell 3000 tickets!Heans ego wont admit any of his fighters are the "B" side, he likes to be in control and call the shots. He must absolutely hate the success Frampton has had since he left him. Easily in the top 3 most successful popular fighters in Britain and he done it all the hard way without a tv deal after telling matchroom to get stuffed, definitely a good underdog story which is why alot of hardcore fans will be cheering him on against Quigg if the fight is made.

Agree with some of what you're saying especially with some of the lightweights you mentioned. To be fair I think we'll see Coyle v Campbell in the summer and I think he'll try and make the fielding v Smith fight providing Paul wants to step back a level (think he sees himself as a level above now after two defeats!). Froch v DeGale would have been made but Froch didn't fancy it and vacated. Some of the other guys are at different stages in their careers.

The Frampton v Quigg fight should and could be easy to make! Carl and the McGuigans want it and obviously so does Scott so you're correct in saying if there's a hold up it's more than likely going to be down to Hearn. I can't see the negotiations going as smooth as they should. You will probably have the powers that be at Sky in the background making things difficult also! Wanting to charge us funny money for box office when Carl has a deal with ITV and is the bigger draw!

I think Hearn may throw Quigg in with Frampton now actually. Quigg has nowhere else to go and isn't a massive money maker for Matchroom so why not cash in before Quigg gets beat?

If that fight happens, Quigg gets stopped in the first half of the fight.

I think Quigg will have to leave Eddie or at least ask him to step aside to get the fight
team Frampton look very comfortable with ITV which means there is simply no room or necessity
for Eddies involvement...if it's a PPV fight then it's a whole different matter though.

Arguably Quigg needs Frampton more than the other way round, if the fight isn't made because of Hearn then Quigg will fight on undercards or in front of a few hundred defending his paper title whilst Frampton will be on ITV in front of huge crowds

It would physically kill hearn not to be the main man in this promotion and see Mcguigan front and centre at the press conferance and in the middle of the two fighters at the weigh in. As mentioned ealier this fight doesn't need hearn or matchroom in anyway, not sure his ego would allow it though, as eddie loves to be seen and heard.

Well said. It's an undeniable fact. (I didn't even realize this until you brought it up)

Well it can only be shameless self-promotion and him trying to keep all the fighters on the winning track without actually probably testing them.

Agreed. The best thing that Hearn & Quigg can ask for is home advantage (Manchester), on this occasion they really don't have the winning hand.

Well done, mate. It's often forgot about these days that Eddie used to be involved with Carl. I said it recently on here, but I seen an interview with Eddie on Youtube years ago where Eddie said that Scott told me (privately) that he didn't want to fight Frampton.

Does nobody else remember that Quigg wouldn't fight Frampton when he was the British Champion. Carl called him out repeatedly and Quigg ignored him.
Then later, when Quigg won "World" Title he repeatedly said that Carl would need to become a World Champion before he would fight him. To make it a "unification" fight.

I would also point out this wee clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HhNftH9l-k
(skip to 4:57)

That sort of attitude is the reasons the fight won't happen. Frampton and his team aren't exactly hamstrung for options and it would be foolish to think that.

I don't think Quigg is an easy fight for anyone and I include Rigo in that. He's a beast at the weight and as fit as they come. I just think Frampton has the better ability and range of shots and will win by UD or late stoppage. I reckon Quigg would have to pick himself up from the floor a couple of times.

Yeah I'm taking Frampton but Quigg won't be easy and he's a big lump for a superbantamweight - noticeably bigger than Frampton.

Eddie continues to talk about "getting the best money for the boxers" etc. etc. - what he really means is having a fight on Sky PPV.

I actually agree with Barry McGuigan, longer terms (you know, actually promoting and developing a boxer) it would surely be in both Quigg and Framptons best interests to have this fight on terrestrial tv with a much bigger audience - a bit like Barry did himself.

It would be if they thought Quigg could win, Barry isn't bothered because he's confident that Frampton will win and after winning a fight like that on terrestrial TV, he'll be a huge name. I get the feeling that Quigg's team don't really think he beats Frampton, so they would rather do it on PPV where it makes the most money.

It's that movie deja vu again.

Name me ANY UK promoter who has matched his own stable of fighters head to head until absolutely forced to do so since the early 1980's.

allegedly. Plenty of examples of him putting his own fighters in with each other, a number of them recent. No promoter does it for every fight, but Hearn doesn't seem interested unless it's PPV.

I agree - however he does it when it suits his own purposes.

Every now and again there is a cull when he throws a couple of his boxers together. The winner will move on and the loser is invariably discarded.

It is a cruel business.

On the money Bripez.
He only ever put them together when he wanted one or the other hung out to dry.
