Broner is not that great....

Post by drew kim »

John Molina is a 6 to 1 underdog vs Broner?

Broner does not impress me at all, he got a gift decision against Paul Malinaggi (who couldnt hurt a fly)
He got beat down by Maidana (who is very good but not great) and his last 2 fights were very very unimpressive decision wins againts total nobodies.

I like Molina at these odds for sure

broner is good. he is athletic etc. but there is only one big problem, the dude is a super featherweight - super lightweight type of dude, with that kind of power. he simply aint no welterweight and sure as hell doesnt have welterweight power.

he should have stayed at lowerweights, sadly he is not a hard trainer, more of a rapper and party boy.

between sf and sl there are enough quality names to build a reputation and make some cash. uchiyama, mickey garcia, crawford, gamboa, danny, matthysse, provodnikov, that should be the field were he should look for fights. he would have had a much better record, because on lower weight he do have good power.

Broner is definitely a punk but if I grew up like he did, i'd probably be a punk too. He built himself into a 3 time World Champion and a millionaire from nothing so who am i to fault the guy for anything? He's only 25 years old and hasn't even reached his prime.

With that said, he's going to absolutely batter Molina for 12 rounds. If Molina wins a round, i'd be impressed. His only shot is landing a hail mary but i don't think that it will happen. Molina is turning into "Special Delivery" Jones from WWF days. Always loses but makes it interesting.

I'm definitely with you on John. He's a solid sleeper here with those odds.

I think some people will be surprised by adriens power. lets not forget that still relatively young as far as professional boxing goes and with the exception of the fight against maidana he's looked good on fight nights. Fighters normally gain power as they grow into their bodies and which is why they normally dont rush in moving up weight classes. Adrien jumped a whole class and that was a mistake. Critics may point to his low work rate and poor shoulder roll imitation as reasons to say that he is nothing special, but I think he learned a lot from the fight against marcos. His last 2 fights have not been major fights but lets not forget that he is an Al haymon fighter and we've already discussed that Al didn't want to waste a major fight and not have it on his network that we now know to be pbc. I mean hell, Danny Garcia fought rod salka lol.

I want to be the first to say, a lot of people here like lucas matthysse, and for good reason. But he definitely had his struggles with john Molina. Lets make sure that we're fair in giving adrien his credit if he comes out and puts on a great performance Saturday night. If broner trains hard and maintains focus (his biggest challenge it seems) I think he can beat anyone at 140.

You're asking a lot there lol.

I think the general fan would & will. Thing is Adrien gots a lot of haters. And granted Adrien wants haters so he's gotten what he asked for. But the thing with having so many haters is everything you do thats good is gonna be downplayed & every time you have a bad day or whatever its gonna be amplified. Thats the nature of having so many fans who are the hater type fans.

Broner isn't great but he doesn't need to be given his opponent. I thought Molina looked significantly worse than Broner in clearly losing his last fight to Soto and I'd be quite surprised if he won this;I expect Broner to handle him fairly easily after his customary slow start and I imagine that it will be target practice (Molina is markedly hittable and tends to walk straight to opponents) for most of the bout.

I agree with the sentiment that Broner often doesn't get the credit he deserves and after perhaps being overrated I now think he's generally underrated. That so many people laughably depict his win over Paulie as a robbery like the OP has is one sign of this type of bias in my view.

Broner lost to a guy who knocked him down and hurt him several times. For Broner to jump up in weight and to still finish the fight, in which he was taking punishment says a lot. I dont think hes getting the credit he deserves. Broner's attitude sucks and he is cocky, but i think he is a good fighter. If he can manage to stay focus and stop with the playing around I can see him as a threat down the line. If hes focused, he should beat Molina, If hes playing around he will lose.

The problem is that although Molina possesses a world class heart and world class punching power, those are about the only 2 things on him that are elite.

Time after time, we've seen Molina can be boxed and neutralized.

In the fight with Matthysse, he got Lucas in trouble then proceeded to be out-skilled (and finally stopped) by someone with average boxing talent at best.

Even some of his greatest victories have him being totally schooled before his opponents show a lack of good judgement and get into a late round firefight with John-John.

It is possible Broner makes the same mistake, but not likely.

And we know Broner is not unfamiliar with big punchers.

The odds I've seen had Broner opening a 8-1 favorite and now he's climbed to a 9-1 choice.

Most would agree that Molina is simply too mechanical and too slow to deal with Broner.
Molina's defense is sometime non-existent, and that includes appearances against ESPN-level fighters.
He's tough, gritty and can bang but he offers little that will puzzle the ultra-speedy Broner.

Molina appeared a tad lethargic against Soto and you wonder if the Matthysse war combined with all the punches he's taken in his career have taken a toll.
I don't see Broner having too much trouble with the one-dimensional Molina and figure The Problem will stop him by the 6th round in a one-sided bout.

I agree, Broner is not that great, but Molina is significantly farther from great than Broner is.

if you are watching the fight then i think 10/1 on the Molina stoppage as a small bet could provide a little entertainment.

If Molina loses this fight (and he will.....convincingly) will he be saddled with the dreaded "rugged journeyman" tag or the even worse "gatekeeper" designation?

A defeat sends him to his fifth loss in his last 8 bouts.

About 3 hours until fight time and Broner is holding steady as a 9-1 favorite. He's -125 to score a KO and +150 to win by decision.
My books show that Molina will return +900 to shake up the world and KO Broner. A decision win is worth +1400.

WAR AB!

Don't most people already hold him in this regard.

If I was feeling more loose lipped I might call him a "fringe contender", but rugged journeyman or gatekeeper is basically what that is already in my mind. I mean its certainly in the same neighborhood.

Even if he wins tonight (& I think he has more of a chance than he's being given just cuz he's 100% all fight & I think while Adrien is probably 90% on it worse case during the fight I think he can be 25% on top of things in training & that can affect things on fight night) I'd at best say he's a fringe contender more than a legit contender or just a contender I think.

I think Broner is under-rated and knows he needs a good showing to get other big fights. Molina has lost 4 out of his last 7. I think Broner stops him tonight, or comes close to it.

Even in the Maidana fight, he did show some heart, and thought it wasn't over until it was over. He hits harder than people give him credit for. A work in progress, but he is young. Becoming a world champ in boxing is a respectable feat.

I think Molina is still considered, at the very least, a fringe contender. His competitive war last year against Matthysse, entitles him to that designation.
With his power, which he retains in the late rounds, he remains a threat at the world class level.

A "rugged journeyman" or "fringe contender" more aptly describes a guy like Soto-Karrass, who pretty much always gives a scrappy performance, but can't rise to the level of a true championship threat. He lacks the all-around skills or power.
Molina at least has the punch.

Molina was not there to win plain n simple.

With that said Broner looked like shiit he sould have stopped molina yet he also fought very timid. The Maidana beating took alot out of Broner.

I had no dog in this fight, I have nothing against Broner. but he just makes fights hard to fight. He is talented enough to have dominated a fighter like Molina, tho the scores will seem as tho he did dominate Molina, he did not dominate in the sense of how a great fighter should win. Sugar Ray did mention in the end that you have to close the show, he was right on point in my opinion. Hope Thurman-Guerrero save this card.
