Best current boxer not to have won a World title
Best current boxer not to have won a World title
In the past you would see these great heavyweights who never won a world title, mainly because there weren't as many out there at the time. With the 4 recognised organizations out there, you would assume that some boxers will have won a world title. But who is the best out there who hasn't tasted championship success yet?
The name I will throw into the mix is Lucas Matthysee.

Oleksandr Usyk is one that comes to mind.

Tyson Fury has had a pretty impressive career this far, he sprang to my mind immediately.
I'd also throw James DeGale and George Groves in that discussion as well.

Re: Best current boxer not to have won a World title
I'm not even sure what exactly qualifies as a title anymore with all the interim, super, nacho supreme titles out there. I'll go with someone who's not won any title but idk that he's quite like he used to be. Andre Dirrell. I had him beating Carl in the Super Six, but however you look at it that was a close fight. Then he was beating Arthur legit before all the nuttiness went down that has led to his current limbo status in boxing. I feel like one of the fights that has been lost was a Andre vs Andre fight if things hadn't went down like they did.
One of my favorite guys to have never won a title is Oba Carr. Oba was a top 147lber in the 90's. Unfortunately for him so were Felix, Ike & Oscar & those were his first 3 L's & first & only 3 title shots.

I've not seen him since the Olympics, I thought he'd do really well - he looked really solid.Gnome wrote:Oleksandr Usyk is one that comes to mind.

Oleksandr Usyk for me is still a prospect as he has only had five fights as a professional since turning over so its early days for him. Looking around at the moment. Martin Murray deserves a mention having twice gone the full championship distance with Felix Sturm and Sergio Martinex but not got the decision, and taking Gennady Golovkin the furthest he has ever been in his 32 fight professional career deserves considering.Gnome wrote:Oleksandr Usyk is one that comes to mind.

Kosei Tanaka
I'm liking Usyk as well, but Tanaka will win one first. Likely in May.

Mattysse is the best choice. I had to go check his record because I didn't believe you at first.

Thurman, unless his belt isn't "real".

Martin Murray does indeed merit a special mention.
Travelling to Germany and Argentina and not quite getting a decision despite 2 solid performances (2 wins???)
but giving the baddest man in boxing today his hardest fight yet deserves a belt in itself
I'd personally put Martin no3 in the division as I think Quillin would narrowly out-point him, but many have Martin no2 in the division and there's no chance Quillin would turn in a performance like that against Golovkin
in many divisions there are guys you wouldn't put in the top 10, yet they hold a version of the world title.
This is why i'd love to see MM's promoter get him an "easy" title shot for once, nobody has earned that more than Martin
Re: Best current boxer not to have won a World title
I think he is more than a prospect really - he has great a Olympic and WSB pedigree and is #12 in the world (boxrec) after his first six fights in one year. It seems to me he more than capable of capturing a major belt right now.IRLangmaid25 wrote:Oleksandr Usyk for me is still a prospect as he has only had five fights as a professional since turning over so its early days for him.
