Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
Good card on noxbation this Friday, Butler aiming to become a 2 weight world champ after only 18 fights,I'm a massive fan of Paul,he's a tidy boxer who could do it all, very good when he puts his punches together and likes to throw combinations in 5's and 6's but also good on the back foot has a good defence and is effective off the ropes
Something about the way he was maneuvered into the IBF Bantamweight title fight didn't sit right with me,nothing against him taking the shot or even vacating because that was a brave move to give it up then move back down to Super Flyweight, I think I felt sorry for Hall who was set up to be the unfashionable fall guy, lost his title to unbeaten prospect then Butler just let it go to move back down, I know Stuey got another crack but I felt for him
I don't know much about Tete other than the fact he's South African and this is his first defence,he also challenged for the world Flyweight title
I'm expecting Butler to do the bizz on points

Best of luck to Butler.
I hope he wins and gets some decent exposure.
25 years ago this would have been on BBC or ITV on a Saturday night.

Re: Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
Is a amazing achievement, winning a World Title and boxing for another by the age of 25..
If he was a Heavy Weight he'd be all over the Papers and all over the net everyone would be talking about him Paul would be a house hold name etc etc, and IMO the fights are much better more action non stop movement unlike some of the heavy weight fights I've watch...

Tried Carson Jones, wanted three times what he got for fighting Rose, Carslaw, knocked back by the board.
I get the feeling they don't think Williams is ready to fight him, Lockett didn't seem too bothered about pushing for the fight and neither did Liam, more likely to happen in 18 months-2 years than now.

Re: Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
Really tough ask for Butler. As others have said his route to a Bantamweight title didn't sit right but Hall, for all his toughness, was himself a fortune champion with a questionable win over Perales.
Tete looked 2 or 3 levels above Kinoshita when he won the title in Kobe, incidentally Tete won the title in the hotel that Kinoshita works his day job, and he has certainly fought at a higher level than Butler.
Hopefully be a great win for Butler who can join the elite of a great division. If Tete wins I suspect the South African continues to fly under the radar though.
McJoe faces the winner right? Another great match up with who ever wins.

Why was the Carslaw fight knocked back? That would've been a decent scrap? He gave Rose all he could handle when Rose was flying and was unfortunate because of the cut he sustained. In different circumstances I reckon Kris could've won that one.expe wrote:Was supposed to be fighting this lad http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxerNaandrew wrote:According to paddypower Liam Smiths opponent isearsjohn wrote:Any news on opponents for Liam Smith, Kev Satchell or Derry?

Re: Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
What is Tete like does anyone know? I herd he is big for the weight and strong but that's all I know of him really! Glad to have some decent boxing to watch on a Friday again!
Re: Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
Good main event and a decent undercard fight in Dickens vs Wale but the rest of the bill has been done on the cheap. Really feel for Liam Smith he deserves better than a polish journeyman fighting at 7pm. Hopefully they can finally get him a big fight for the Matthews vs Abrill undercard.
Re: Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
Don't know, he said to someone on twitter that they tried and the board knocked it back, Carslaw won an eliminator last time out so I think its more likely to be do with the shape he's in, not sure if he'd be able to make the check weigh ins at short notice.Stuarty30 wrote:Why was the Carslaw fight knocked back? Re: Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
Big lanky fornicator, 5'9, 5'10ish, huge for a featherweight, never mind a super flyweight. He'll have a massive reach advantage on Butler too, don't know if he's strong or not but Paul's going to need to close the gap, get up close and let his hands go.Stuarty30 wrote:What is Tete like does anyone know? Think so, Frank might try and squeeze in a voluntary first though, Conlan and Satchell are obvious options for it.Boxing Prospect wrote:Really tough ask for Butler. Paul Butler gets on my nerves a bit to be honest, was a fan of his but increasingly find him annoying I'm not really sure why!
Don't mind who wins this one, should be a decent fight and set up a decent defence, looking forward to it

Yeah maybe mate. My mate is an ex pro and still trains at the same gym (comeback pending lol) I'll ask him the script. Was surprised he wasn't out last week as there was a show in Paisley. Strange as he's quite a good ticket seller.

Re: Zolani Tete vs Paul Butler
Tete seems very confident as you expect being champ.
Odds currently are Butler 4/11 and Tete 2/1
Just watched a bit of Tetes last fight ( not the best quality). Like a poor mans Rigondeaux and looks big for the weight.
Looks like Paul has a very difficult night ahead.

Conlan is penciled in to fight Parrenas right? I assume the winner of that would be #1 to fight Inoue...OUCH!expe wrote:Think so, Frank might try and squeeze in a voluntary first though, Conlan and Satchell are obvious options for it.Boxing Prospect wrote:Really tough ask for Butler. Both look supremely confident at the weigh in.
This South African looks very tough. He's been knocked over a couple of times, maybe vulnerable to a big punch, but looks like he has the big punch himself - and he's definitely battle hardened.
I watched a bit of his eliminator win, taking on local boy JC Sanchez in Mexico. He knocks Sanchez over, then gets flattened himself by a huge left-hand. Gets up at the bell, then comes back to pulverise Sanchez in the 10th. That shows real metal - Butler is going to have to be at the top of his game to win this one I think..

Not quite the height difference I was expecting, either Paul's taller than I thought, or Tete isn't 5'9 as he's listed.MightyWarrior wrote:http://youtu.be/3S2b9JTExUE

Suspect Butler must be taller. Tete was 174.5CM according to his medical before the Kinoshita fight...apparently has 183CM reach (not sure how it was measured)expe wrote:Not quite the height difference I was expecting, either Paul's taller than I thought, or Tete isn't 5'9 as he's listed.MightyWarrior wrote:http://youtu.be/3S2b9JTExUE
