How many viewers will it take to consider this a success or failure?

LOL at your options. The Voice isn't getting 15M so I think we can rule that out. And this is Saturday so there are all sorts of competition for things to do thus the pool of people watching is lower. Last week for example 5.7M woulda got you first for the night on National TV. Last week Hockey on NBC had 1.55M watching so them beating that = a decent enough night in my estimation.

If it goes past 5 millions viewer it ll be enormous, but i doubt it will. I'd say 1,3 millions with a peak at 2,2 something like that

It is a success because it is happening. I think anything over 1.5M for the first show would be great. It will grow from there. I liked the weigh-in show and PBC: Corner to Corner show that both aired on NBCSN last night.

I think the card tonight is going to do very well.

Surprising even.

I agree.I do not know the numbers that it will produce.
But I feel confident that it will exceed the sponsors expectations.

Real solid Top-10 fight between Guerrero and Thurman.

Anyone know if the Breazille fight will be on TV? Hope so.

NHL on NBC last Saturday night did 1.4M. If it hits 2M, it's a good start.

Anything less than 5 million would be poor to me if I'm understanding how the show is being televised right.

I don't believe so. Maybe at best highlights will get shown.

It'd be nice if they went full UFC & show the whole card somewhere & just up the stakes as we get deeper. Website or FB stream for 4-6 rounders, NBC Sports for 8 rounders & non-featured fights & then lets go to the main event on NBC. Quit f#cking around people.

SHOWTIME does that on their Extreme channel. I don't think HBO does, but they should. Show the whole damn card. Perhaps boxing would grow some fans.

Has any US televised fight had 5M watching recently? I think 5M would be a roaring success. You gotta go way further down then 4.9M to get "poor".

Anyone know whats the highest watched fights in the past 2-3 years? (Where's Ferg when you need him).

Usually I see under 2M numbers for the highest rated fights.

Showtime shows more, but even they don't typically show the full card though do they? I mean the UFC will show 15 fights across various viewing options. I think Showtime just shows a couple extra typically. Not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth too much though lol. Respect & Love to Showtime.

It would definitely go the boxing fan base up.

Isn't NBC one of the big few channels in the US, terrestrial TV, free to air and all that?

The original big 3 are ABC, CBS, and NBC. But this isn't on the actual NBC like it use to be. It's on one of their cable affiliates. Not sure if everyone gets it. Depends on their package.

Then it should do at least 5 million then if it's going out to a country of 300+ million.

Where are you coming up with 5M? Why should it get "at least 5M"? I'd love to hear your logic.

Carl Frampton did 2m last week on ITV, similar channel to NBC. To the general public, he was a nobody, the fight wasn't even in England, where the majority of the audience is. Considering there's 5x as many people in America, it should be doing 5 million viewers in all honesty.

I think boxing is more mainstream in the UK. You guys get up for a lot of fights & fighters. Here its basically Floyd or Manny or who dat. I don't know the UK culture enough to comment on the TV stuff vs our TV stuff or whats competing with your guys' time vs our time so I won't act like I do know, but mainly I'd go with the apple & oranges comparison & whats going in the UK isn't all that relatable to here.

Having said that to make a similar comparison as you made, but in the US market there are 115M homes with TVs/NBC one would assume in the US. There are 32M homes that have HBO. Kovalev-Bhop did 1.4M, Rios-Alvarado III did 1.25M & Klitschko-Pulev did 1M. To be on par with recent HBO numbers with a 3x & change audience NBC would need to get around 3.6M to 5M viewers. I don't think its necessarily fair to compare HBO who's the king of boxing currently to NBC who's putting out a first primetime offering in 3 decades, but I'm sure some will.

Excited to see the fight tonight regardless of any numbers.

Mayweather-Canelo did 2.2M on PPV in September 2013.

Outside of PPV, the last fight to hit 2M on TV was Vitali-Arreola in September 2009.

Overall this will go down as a hugely successful night for NBC and Premier Boxing Champions.
Good job I was impressed.

I was just reading through this thread thinking the same thing

people saying they didn't expect more than 1.5m watching a big title fight between 2 US based fighters.

I know we can pull that in over here in the UK.

surely 5m isn't that outrageous a figure in the states, or is boxing not as big over there as I thought?

Who are the two people who said 15 million?

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/0 ... me/348433/

NFL games in 2014 averaged 17.6 million viewers and the NFL is by far the king of sports television in America.
Boxing is a niche sport here, four relatively unknown boxers on a Saturday evening show is not going to approach NFL numbers.
