Who is the worst active world champion?
Don't bother with interim champions just WBC/WBA/WBO/IBF (WBA super if applicable).
A few standout weak links to begin with-
Kohei Kono
Mickey Bey
Lamont Peterson
Andy Lee
Arthur Abraham

Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
Wilder? Loses to Wlad, Fury, Pulev and Povetkin IMHO
Cornelius Bundrage (although he gets bonus points for that name)
Cotto. Love this guy, but past his best, beat a cripple for the title and not a middle weight

Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
I do agree that Arthur Abraham and Miguel Cotto look pretty vulnerable as world champions at Super-Middleweight and Middleweight respectively. Abraham is vulnerable to anyone 6ft plus with good footwork, and a long punishing jab. Miguel Cotto at 5ft7 and was at his pomp as a Light-Welterweight and Welterweight probably gets beat too.

Peterson is a good fighter
Not impressed with Bey
AA has the best team in boxing....they somehow fix it where he fights some jackoff for a title.
Bundrage hands down.......Wilders kos suckass Pulev

Don't need to be "that bad" to be among the weakest champions, just worse than the others.fergusg wrote:This is another trolling joke of a thread. I did, admittedly, I over look Bundrage.
Regarding Peterson, he's a good fighter but the controversial win over Khan and the loss to Matthysse sit badly in my mouth for a world champion.
Though it's so great that you wish to contribute with an utterly pointless reply rather than adding your own suggestion. Perhaps showing you lack the ability to stay on topic.

Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
Anthony Dirrell isn't even the best SMW in his own family
Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
Arthur Abraham, Mickey Bey, Cornelius Bundrage

I like Orlando Salidofergusg wrote: 7 - Orlando Salido (Super Featherweight)

They wanted to fast tract an amatuer to a world title in his second professional bout, to be the quickest world champion ever, Salido was picked as a beatable title holder to pave the way for this. He said fornicate that, piled on a few extra pounds and roughed Lomachenko up
He probably does deserve to be on your list at number 7, but there's something I like about a guy who they kept picking as the patsy and kept saying "Bollocks to this, you're not taking the piss out of me!"

Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
Decent list, but I don't consider Chagaev as a “world champion”. Also, Drozd isn't that bad. His wins over Wlodarczyk and Masternakfergusg wrote:I tried to be as scientific as I could when gauging the worst “world champions” in boxing… and even included the holders of the “regular” version of the WBA title, because let’s face it… a fighter like GGG deserves to be recognised for participating in more than three world title bouts.Boxing Prospect wrote:Though it's so great that you wish to contribute with an utterly pointless reply rather than adding your own suggestion. Anyway, I drew up a list of the “weakest” world champion per weight class and then ranked the seventeen champions according to accomplishment and calibre of opposition faced.
Before anyone moans, my system isn’t perfect, because it’s impossible to cater for all situations, such as raw unproven talent that has only fought and looked great against shot fighters or journeymen.
You could also argue that certain weight classes are weaker than others, which means that I should have reviewed the careers of all 80+ world champions, but I really didn’t have enough time to do that... and I suspect that bias against the lighter weight divisions (due to a lack of knowledge) could unduly influence the names included in this list.
Anyway, here’s what I’ve come up with (ranked in weakest champion first - in ascending calibre order):
• 1 - Jamie McDonnell (Bantamweight)
• 2 - Kohei Kono (Super Flyweight)
• 3 - Wanheng Menayothin (Minimumweight)
• 4 - Ruslan Chagaev (Heavyweight)
• 5 - Evgeny Gradovich (Featherweight)
• 6 - Juan Reveco (Flyweight)
• 7 - Orlando Salido (Super Featherweight)
• 8 - Anthony Dirrell (Super Middleweight)
• 9 - Pedro Guevara (Junior Flyweight)
• 10 - Andy Lee (Middleweight)
• 11 - Scott Quigg (Super Bantamweight)
• 12 - Micky Bey (Lightweight)
• 13 - Jurgen Brahmer (Light Heavyweight)
• 14 - Grigory Drozd (Cruiserweight)
• 15 - Lamont Peterson (Light Welterweight)
• 16 - Cornelius Bundrage (Light Middleweight)
• 17 - Keith Thurman (Welterweight)

are much better than any of Lebedev's wins since his questionable loss to Marco Huck in 2010.
Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
Drozd is a solid champion and I rank him above Lebedev and Hernandez.
Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
Well more like re hydrating to 147 pounds. He was basically a welterweight in that fight. Lomachenko re hydrated to about 136. That's two weight classed in difference.davie wrote: They wanted to fast tract an amatuer to a world title in his second professional bout, to be the quickest world champion ever, Salido was picked as a beatable title holder to pave the way for this. Salido is a tough fighter, most of his losses came early in his career. In the last 10 years he has only lost 3 times.
Takayama seems like an average champion though.

Thruman and Quigg? ..
Thurman is a quality fighter and he is only 24 to.
Quigg is a very decent boxer ... I feel that since Frampton impressed in his last 2 fights people are quick to criticize Quigg.

Quigg is exactly that, decent. I like him but he's not great and probably merits a place on that list.ajwesty13 wrote:fergusg wrote:

I'd be inclined to put him where he has Thurman and remove Thurman from the list, his name should not even have cropped up in this conversation

if I were to put Quigg on the list it would only be for the paper belt he's holding ... I feel for Quigg It was only a few months ago people were split about the winner of Frampton Vs Quigg .. do think hel surprise a few when he has more fights under his belt which should compensate for his lack of amateur experience..davie wrote:

I've always picked Frampton to win comfortably.
Quigg is a good fighter, but i'm firmly of the belief he is a level below the top guy in that division. I just don't see anything to get excited about.

Re: Who is the worst active world champion?
Wilder jumps to mind quickly as being perhaps the worst active champion in all of boxing
Poor technique, kind of slow, defense looks suspect. Good power, but that's it.
Mickey Bey, Lamond Peterson, Arthur Abraham, and Jamie McDonnell all look vulnerable as well.
