Golovkin Vs Heiland

Post by Aaronide_ger »

Jorge sebastian heiland (#9 Boxrec) got the GGG fight as said by Tureano Johnson (#46 Boxrec) On twitter..

Not officially confirmed yet.

Heiland is 28 years old with 4 Losses, one against zbik in a very close bout in 2010 and 3 against Domestic level opposition..

2014 though saw him avenge 2 of his losses by KO and then traveling to Ireland to KO Macklin.. For me this is the best available fighr for GGG since all of the top15 middleweights have planned fights

A fairly uninspiring match-up but the options were limited, Heiland is on his best form, and he has a fun style.

Hopefully GGG has a bigger fight in late 2015. By that time N'dam-Lemieux will likely have taken place so perhaps he can unify with one of them if Cotto looks elsewhere, in which case GGG would probably be in position to capture the WBC title too (since he's interim champ will he automatically be elevated to full champ if Cotto vacates?).

I hope they have good drug testing. Unbelievable volume of punching in the Macklin fight is a strong indication of PEDs use.

Pretty sad that this probably is the best option for him just now at middleweight.

I can't even counter with a better name who is available right now.

As ever, the guy likes to keep active and rather than wait for a better option to come later in the year he just gets back in the ring and fights the strongest available at the time

hard to knock him for that.

does add weight to the claims that he probably needs to look at other weight divisions though

Yes, if Cotto keeps avoiding GGG, he will be stripped by WBC and GGG will be elevated. That's what Mauricio said a few weeks ago, just after the Murray win...

im happy with this, his victory of macklin is good enough to warrant a fight vs GGG (given the lack of options)
Johnson should fight munroe jr

Exactly. Before barking at a bigger dog, they need to prove that they worth a title shot.

This is actually a good fight IMO and what I thought would get made. Heiland's gonna come to fight. I wouldn't expect a walk in the park for GGG or for Heiland to be a push-over. Excited for this one.

You guys are nuts. This fight sucks. Macklin is shot to hell.

Heiland gets murdered.

This fight does kinda suck, but with Lee already fighting Quillin and Cotto unwilling to sign, I dunno what else they could have done.

Yes, looking through the BoxRec rankings I can't find anyone at 160 who is clearly a better opponent while also probably being willing and available to fight GGG.

Obviously not a fight that's gonna get anyone excited except the biggest GGG or Heiland fans. I was kinda rooting for Willie Monroe to get the shot as he's been calling GGG's name & is a guy I've gotten to see more of.

Having said that GGG could do worse than a guy with a high level name win in his last fight & who's avenged his two most recent L's, plus hasn't been stopped in his career. In the grand scheme of things this ain't a bad guy to fight, but the expectations on GGG vs a more challenging or bigger name opponent is huge right now.

I'm curious how the next 6 months or so unfolds for GGG. Cotto has been mandated to fight him or at least take the fight within that period, and the IBF title will have likely be won be N'dam or Lemieux, both of whom seem like feasible opponents.

If the Cotto fight doesn't happen, I wouldn't be shocked if GGG is elevated to WBC champ this year and wins the IBF title shortly after in what would be a decent match-up with N'dam or Lemieux. It would still leave him chasing a major fight but there would be fewer opportunities for others to contest titles (which fighters clearly still care about in my view) without having to face him.

Cotto fight is highly unlikely. I doubt that DLH will want to sacrifice Lemieux so soon, so the main hope is somewhat unlikely wins by N'Dam or Lee (who has to fight BJS but who knows how it will unfold). If Monroe Jr fights Johnson, a winner would be a decent opponent too, but the future doesn't look very good unless Canelo, Chavez or Froch decide to step up.

Actually, it looks like it is Monroe Jr:

Instead of -10000 vs Heiland he'll be -8500 against Monroe.

I think Monroe is probably better than Heiland although nowhere near as fan-friendly.

In my opinion there isn't a huge amount splitting Monroe and Danny Jacobs, someone who many seem to accept as world class.

GGG is wasting away his prime years in this division. These fights are completely and utterly pointless. He's not gonna get Canelo or Cotto to face him so just vacate the division.

GGG hasn't fought a southpaw since 9 fights ago (against Proksa). Nice skill refreshment sparring

I'm less excited for Monroe. His Boxcino finals match put me to sleep and if Heiland doesn't deserve it because Macklin is his only good win, I don't see why Monroe should get a shot for beating Vera.

Problem is no one deserves it that is available or seemingly wants it
