The Best Fight you've NEVER SEEN

Post by caldo2025 »

I was having a hard time sleeping last night so I began flipping channels to find something to watch. I wound up at ESPN Classic Fights and clicked on the Mickey Ward vs. Emanuel Burton (Augustus now). What a gem. This could possibly be the best fight i've ever seen in my life. If you have some time, treat yourself to the link below and let us know what you think about this fight. I'm still in awe of both men.

What do you think?

Foreman-Lyle going away.

3 knockdowns in the 4th round. Foreman down twice. Cosell said it wasn't scientific, even though if you watch the fight closely, you will see some left jabs.

I just read the heading more carefully. Did you mean best fight you've ever seen? If you meant "never" how would you know that? :witzend:

If you want a treat try and watch Ross Hale v Mickey Driscoll and Harold Knight v Kenny Baysmore.

Koki Eto Vs Pornsawan Porpramook deserves a mention here, 2013 FOTY contender...the only "knock" against it was the cards not reflecting the bout very accurately

Alex Stewart vs Ezra Sellers. Incredible fight - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtKxUCSUMfE

Both men were in others great wars - Sellers against Carl Thompson and Stewart against Moorer.

Loved the Ward-Burton fight, Burton/Augustus is probably my favourite fighter ever and I reckon he might have just nicked that war (96-95.) Of course I try to be impartial but some bias might have slipped in here :TU:

I'm ashamed to say I've never seen a full Gatti-Ward fight, seen highlights but none of the full fights

I've seen it, but most probably haven't; but if you get the chance, watch Matty Clarkson -v- Travis Dickinson!

What a fight! :oo

Kinda confusing thread title. Is the thrust supposed to be "here's a old classic fight that I'd never got round to watching 'til recently"? Or is it "here's a fight between two non-A level guys that might've flown under most people's radar but is actually really worth watching"? Either way, Ward-Burton is a hell of a fight. Perhaps better than any one of the more celebrated Gatii-Ward trilogy.

Having never heard of either guy before  I recently read a little bit about Lee Roy Murphy vs. Chisanda Mutti (fringe beltholder level 80's cruiserweights), and decided to sit and watch it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToDXfz6OBW4 (part one: ring walks, rounds 1 & 2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC9qNA_wRRM (part two: rounds 3-7)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Un_ewX7bpw (part three: rounds 8-12, post-fight)

:o , :oo &

(has the sounds of the fight but with no commentators, which will be welcome news to some)

I've been meaning to watch De La Hoya v Ike Quartey for over 10 years.
