Davie Drummond vs Ricky Dennis Pow
Ive been in contact with Davie lately and he has his first fight since teaming up with Carl Greaves on the 27th March in Bristol against home fighter Pow
And he's in great shape and raring to go, he's been training with Billy Nelson which he is loving and has been getting some top class sparring and he can't wait to start working with Carl
After a inactive last couple of years he seems to have the bit between the teeth and the futures bright and he's ready to do some real damage to Pow
I haven't seen Pow before but had a wee look at him,he gave former WBA Light Heavyweight champ Gabriel Campillo a good fight before being stopped in 7,that was only 2 fights ago and Campillo's still in the top 10
Pow looks tough from what little I've seen and its good fight for Davie and one I know he'll win,I know Davies thankful for all involved in getting him back in the ring again

One of the nice guys in boxing, I know hell do the damage, all the banter with billy I really think both have a lot of offer each other with Bill getting top sparring in his gym for Brophy, Davie not willing to be an away fighter and give it his all. Dundee boxing is buzzing

dave just needs to be active, the sparring will bring him on leaps and bounds, so with hard graft he will be finehandsofstone wrote:Eh Davie says he's been getting great sparring with Brophy and Billy's SMW Mohammad Babazadeh,he says its been excellent

Yeah that's what Davies been saying himself,he's chomping at the bit to get in the ring and take his frustrations out,Pow seems like a tough customer though, but still expecting Davie to stop him thoughbilly nelson wrote:dave just needs to be active, the sparring will bring him on leaps and bounds, so with hard graft he will be finehandsofstone wrote:Eh Davie says he's been getting great sparring with Brophy and Billy's SMW Mohammad Babazadeh,he says its been excellent

its a pity davie never got down to billys gym a couple of months earlier,as hes loves it,and hes speaking very highly of billy,by the sounds of things pow must be struggling with his weight,as davies been asked to fight at a few lbs heavier,i really hope he does the business down in bristol to kickstart his career as hes one of the nicest lads you could meet, and a lochee boy as well

Gutted I am not going to be present at this one. That alone will be worth paying in for. Will be a cracking fight. Is it 100% on Billy?

Re: Davie Drummond vs Ricky Dennis Pow
Just looked and Mitch Mitchell has upset 3 lads on their debut but tbh is a more sensible debut than Davie Drummond. David is 30+ an experienced amateur and can punch like a mule, Grant is only 19 0r 20 I think and although his boxing ability will be better he needs a few fights to get his career off and running get used to the change into the pros.
At the same time I'm gutted for Davie and hope he gets back fighting asap.

Re: Davie Drummond vs Ricky Dennis Pow
I'm absolutely gutted this has been scrapped, even in the boxing world Davie's luck been tough,he's devastated but he's positive and I agree about this being a blessing and working with Billy will take out the sting
Thankfully Carl is a busy promoter and won't have him out for long

Re: Davie Drummond vs Ricky Dennis Pow
I think the fight should of happened with Quigley. Got to remember Davie only had 2 or 3 pro fights so would be like his debut again really. I think boxing should be equal matchmaking after Saturday got to say I think prospects would learn more from a hard fight than all these walkovers

I received a text from that Drummond's manager on Weds that Drummond has pulled out due to "personal problems", nothing wrong with Pow.

Re: Davie Drummond vs Ricky Dennis Pow
Ricky pow didn't pull out, the promoter was told Dave had issues but that wasn't the case
However I gave Dave some days off has his head was fried with all this, the fight has been offered again but we won't take it on this occasion purely has he's had the guts of this week off.
He is actively looking for fights now between super middle/ light heavy hope he stays busy coz he deserves a break
