The GMA News source claimed unified WBA/WBO 122-pound champion Guillermo Rigondeaux has been sparring with Pacquiao at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles, under the watchful eyes of Freddie Roach -- who trains Pacquiao now and has worked with Rigondeaux in the past.

Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
Yeah as long as Rigondeaux doesn't do a number on Pac in sparring as it could be a confidence killer for him. I seem to remember Hatton 'allegedly' getting his arse handed to him by Lara in his build up to the Pac fight.
To be fair to Manny he is mentally stronger than Hatton.. I think I'm talking myself out of my earlier statement![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Actually, him being a southpaw, I figured Floyd to be the one to hire him first.
But, Rigo's hand speed is good prep.
I also heard Manny is not wearing headgear when they spar...

Interesting choice. I'd love to see these sessions. Someone needs to be recording these & release them on youtube. *fingerscrossed*

Imagine the feints...
Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
Dan Rafael just tweeted that they aren't sparring together.
Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
Dan Rafael: Contrary to rumors, Pacquiao isn't going to spar with Rigondeaux. Never made sense in 1st place because he's a lefty.
Just what I said. Unless Rigo was going orthodox it doesn't make a whole lot of sense except for the hand speed.

Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
Despite the fact Rigo is a southpaw like Manny Pacquiao, he is like Floyd Mayweather a counter puncher with very good footwork and defence which is something Pacquiao is going to have deal with. But for Mayweather. While Rigo's southpaw stance and quick feet will help him. Rigo is not known for being a big combination puncher.

I have trouble believing a guy as good as rigo couldn't switchkoolkc107 wrote:Dan Rafael: Contrary to rumors, Pacquiao isn't going to spar with Rigondeaux. Never made sense in 1st place because he's a lefty.

And given the extensive amateur background and education Rigo has had coming through the Cuban amateur system. It should be in the armoury somewhere.Ricky_ wrote:I have trouble believing a guy as good as rigo couldn't switchkoolkc107 wrote:Dan Rafael: Contrary to rumors, Pacquiao isn't going to spar with Rigondeaux. i don't this helping. I guess with Rigo being a defensive specialist but they don't even fight anywhere near the same way.

Problem is when a natural lefty switches to a righty their usely not has affective as their natural stance.Ricky_ wrote:I have trouble believing a guy as good as rigo couldn't switchkoolkc107 wrote:Dan Rafael: Contrary to rumors, Pacquiao isn't going to spar with Rigondeaux. Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
Ofcourse but it's not about winning rounds vs pac. Rigo would be paid to emulate Floyd. Roll shoulder / pull back straight right counter / body jab etcClivePatrickLyons wrote:Problem is when a natural lefty switches to a righty their usely not has affective as their natural stance.Ricky_ wrote:I have trouble believing a guy as good as rigo couldn't switchkoolkc107 wrote:Dan Rafael: Contrary to rumors, Pacquiao isn't going to spar with Rigondeaux. Oh, I get it. Hatton got beat-up by someone 2 divisions above him, so Pacquiao could get beat-up by someone 5 divisions below him, because they're both Cuban.Roars Like Me wrote:Yeah as long as Rigondeaux doesn't do a number on Pac in sparring as it could be a confidence killer for him. Manny fights a 122 pounder in preparation for someone bigger than him ... who believes these things?
Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
Perfect sparring partner. Floyd is in some chit
Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
Please don't tell me he using Steve forbes either. Rolling him out as a Floyd impersonator at this stage is awful.
Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
now that would be a great catch weight fight hahaha...i would pay to see that, hope they make videos of pacquiao vs rigondeaux, even so its only sparring, but this is 2 elite p4p boxers going at it. good move.
Re: Pacquiao hires Rigondeaux as Sparring Partner
How about at 130? Pac claims he could make 135 still no problem. DLH drained to fight Pac for a big fight, so Pac could do it.Chepppaaa wrote:now that would be a great catch weight fight hahaha...i would pay to see that, hope they make videos of pacquiao vs rigondeaux, even so its only sparring, but this is 2 elite p4p boxers going at it. good move.

Not really what I was aiming for. Rigo won't beat up pac but he will have trouble against his speed and will have trouble landing on him. I have no affinity for Cubans just coincedence.

Don't you realize that boxing fans do not listen to facts?fergusg wrote:Why are people ignoring the fact that Guillermo Rigondeaux isn't going to be sparring with Manny Pacquiao?
Are people too lazy to read Freddie Roach's denial of this fictional story?
Rumors are way more fun
