Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
Or will he continue to get Al Haymon to set him up with faded journeymen like Sukhotsky and faded fringe contenders like Bika?
Will the WBC strip him of his title if he avoids his mandatory Kovalev?

Re: Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
I think the amount of money that both men will earn is too hard for either to resist. They're running out of decent paydays. Frankly I think Adonis would rather visit the proctologist's office than to face Kovalev, but that same feeling didn't stop Spinks from facing Tyson.
Re: Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
Stevenson deserves the beating he is going to get. Now, later, doesn't matter much. We want to see it ASAP but it can still linger a bit. One guy still has to find courage, not sure if it's the fighter or Daddy Haymon.

Anybody read french?
Sounds like the Yvon Michal/Al Haymon side are trying to push Adonis vs Sergey to a purse bid with intentions of a fight in the fall if Google Translate isn't messing with me.

http://www.rds.ca/combat/boxe/superman- ... -1.2170101In an interview with RDS, the President of GYM, Yvon Michel said that this application is intended to prevent the who defeated Jean Pascal to make his mandatory defense of his IBF crown. "As a fight of this magnitude requires a long preparation time, we do not want to wait for Kovalev faces Nadjib Mohammedi. We want to be faster than that, we want to ask the WBC to decide a date of tender.
The decision to move forward to face Sergey Kovalev was taken over the weekend by Yvon Michel, Adonis Stevenson and manager Al Haymon. "Our goal is to fight with Kovalev and we will try to bring this fight to Quebec in the fall.

Stevenson is running like a little biatch!! I'll believe he's gonna fight him when he's finally in the same ring with him, until then I smell p*ssy.SFW wrote:Stevenson deserves the beating he is going to get. Now, later, doesn't matter much. Just open it in Chrome, right click and select "Translate into English".
The Group Yvon Michel will ask the WBC to allow as soon as possible a tender for the organization of a unification fight between Adonis Stevenson champion and holder of the IBF title, WBA and WBO heavyweight, Sergey Kovalev.

If Haymon really wants it, then it will happen. Stevenson is 37, so Haymon understands that he needs to cash out before some journeyman or super middle beats his investment.fergusg wrote:There is not enough demand to commercially justify a fight between Adonis Stevenson & Sergey Kovalev. The same roadblocks that prevented the Mayweather-Pacquiao super-fight also impact on the prospects of this 175lb contest.
Kovalev or Stevenson would have to cross the proverbial street in order for this fight to become a reality... and I suspect that the Russian is more inclined to do this because he isn't paid as well as his Showtime/Haymon Canadian counterpart.

Are you sure that Stevenson has contractual obligations to fight on Showtime and Kovalev has to fight on HBO ?fergusg wrote:Almost anything is technically possible in life, but let's be realistic... Either Kovalev or Stevenson have to cross the proverbial street for this bout to materialise, but I can't see either of those guys doing that within the next 18 months.
Therefore, at this point in time, there is no point whatsoever discussing this fight under the pretence that it's an inevitability, because the chances are extremely remote!
In regards Haymon, he'd probably want the big-punching veteran Stevenson to lose against one of his own fighters in order to retain ownership of the rancid WBC title.
Regarding the statement in red, is there a light heavyweight you mean ?
Re: Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
If Kov is fighting in June or July it seems to me like there would be plenty of time for a fight later in the year, with the winner becoming the undisputed champion. If the IBF title is vacant or held by someone else it will allow fighters to pursue an easier path to a major title and thus likely be a roadblock to good match-ups.
Looking at this cynically, I can see how it would be a saving face move and I won't be surprised if the situation unfolds like this: Kovalev is willing to fight Stevenson but wants to keep the IBF title and thus chooses to face his mandatory challenger, Stevenson and others then cry that Kovalev is ducking him. Hopefully this isn't the case and the two fight to determine an undisputed champion.

Eleider Alvarez, Beterbiev, Fonfara, Rodriguez, Bute, and Chavez Jr. are with Haymon I believe, so it seems to me like he's got sufficient talent to keep it in-house for a while.Regarding the statement in red, is there a light heavyweight you mean ?

Re: Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
Adonis is fighting on CBS in 3 weeks so he can definitely fight off of Showtime its just a matter of where he can fight off of Showtime at. Showtime & Showtime's daddy CBS seem in play though. Maybe other options are out there too idk. From my understanding Sergey has one more HBO fight so idk if anything can happen outside of HBO's realm until that one fight happens since HBO has banned Al Haymon from being involved with HBO. Thus it would appear its a no go or Sergey will need to ride out his HBO contract before we see Adonis vs Sergey.ikorolev wrote: Are you sure that Stevenson has contractual obligations to fight on Showtime and Kovalev has to fight on HBO ?

Nonsense.fergusg wrote:There is not enough demand to commercially justify a fight between Adonis Stevenson & Sergey Kovalev.
It would be a HUGELY popular fight in Montreal, selling out the Bell Center and being a lucrative PPV on French-Canadian TV (especially now that Kovalev has beaten the popular Pascal).
It would do EXCELLENT ratings on either Showtime or HBO, and as well be a very popular fight overseas, especially in Russia.
And there's a chance that the Russian promoter Rabinsky who made the big purse bid for Klitschko-Povetkin might make a purse bid for it to happen in Russia. If it were in Moscow, it might be an even bigger payday than if it were in Montreal.

How can he be kovalevs mandatory ? being a belt holder he wouldn't be ranked by the other orgs would he ?Freedom2013 wrote:Or will he continue to get Al Haymon to set him up with faded journeymen like Sukhotsky and faded fringe contenders like Bika?

Kovalev was given a WBC regional belt after the fight and has replaced Pascal as Stevenson's mandatory.

And I seem to recall that Kovalev has Najob Mohammadi as his IBF mandatory as well. But there is scope for Kovalev to be given an exemption to take the Adonis Stevenson fight, as the IBF allow unification match ups to take prescendent over mandatory defences.

Re: Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
Kathy Duva also sued Golden Boy coowned by BHop, but then Kovalev fought BHop. People say many things, but as soon as good enough money is on the horizon, they choose to forget what was said before. If it suits them, Duva and Showtime can work together for one fight. HBO doesn't want long term contracts with Haymon, because he makes crappy fights, but they can work with him for such a big fight as Kovalev vs Stevenson.fergusg wrote: Kathy Duva’s Main Events sued Al Haymon, Stephen Espinoza & Showtime last year as part of their Adonis Stevenson lawsuit.
Kathy Duva has also gone on record to state that the door at Showtime is slammed shut to everyone but Haymon, Mayweather & GBP.
She also claims that that it’s not possible to build a star at Showtime… and that HBO is the perfect place to be, which is the reason why all the Main Events promoted shows are solely televised by that network.
Therefore, Sergey Kovalev is contractually-tied to HBO by proxy, due to his own contract with Main Events. According to Dan Rafael (ESPN), Kovalev actually has a contract with HBO as well, but I cannot find information from other sources to back this up. However, it doesn’t matter, Krusher’s affiliation with Main Events is enough to prevent fights against any Showtime or Al Haymon boxers.
Adonis Stevenson’s advisor is Al Haymon, a person that HBO refuses to work with. The Canadian veteran is also locked in a contract with Showtime.
Re: Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
The Stevenson camp is trying to get it to a WBC purse bid so they can then stick to the lopsided split in favor of the title holder.
Outside of a purse bid they aren't going to get anything more than 50/50.
The Kovalev camp probably won't accept a low percentage of the purse and will move on the fight to defend his other belts, which is what the Stevenson camp really wants.

Re: Will Adonis Stevenson ever fight Sergey Kovalev?
I saw Hopkins "explaining" that. You believe words too much again. The law suit may have been one of the reasons, but the main reason was that Stevenson wanted too much money and negotiations were dragging, while Duva/Kovalev immediately agreed for laughable 500,000.fergusg wrote:One of the main reasons why Hopkins agreed to fight Sergey Kovalev, even though GYM and Stephen Espinoza (Showtime boss) claimed he could have earned more money fighting Stevenson, was to remove Main Events' right to claim for damages.ikorolev wrote:Kathy Duva also sued Golden Boy coowned by BHop, but then Kovalev fought BHop.
Hopkins was a free agent and wasn’t contractually tied to any TV network or promoter (despite being a shareholder in GBP). He was the only person directly related to the lawsuit (as a shareholder & a managing partner in GBP) that could have forced Main Events to drop their litigation.
Do you need videos of Hopkins explaining this?
I actually believe that there is at least 40% chance of Kovalev vs Stevenson happening.

I read on rds that ehat GYM want is to put pressure to make sure Kovalev doesn t fight his IBF mandatory so the next fight of both fighter will be against each other. But we didn t ear nothing from Haymon. So we ll see what happen... Guess Stevenson is calling Al every half hour right now!!

French-Canadian media:
Al Haymon has given the OK to Kovalev-Stevenson and advised Yvon Michel to contact the WBC in order to set up a unification. They'd like to have the fight in Montreal or Quebec City in the Fall of 2015.
Cloutov will likely have more details tomorrow.
