Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
There must be something better to do in Moscow than discuss this. Go to a strippy and neck some vodka?
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
Try to stay away from the stripclubs here. They can be... erm... addictive. Also, I once got a stripper here to meet me outside when she'd finished, took her for breakfast and got a snog. Ever since, I've been trying to recapture that effort, to no avail. Ha!Shambles wrote:There must be something better to do in Moscow than discuss this. Go to a strippy and neck some vodka?

Hopefully BN get it. The "old mans club" at Sky are bad for boxing.

Sounds brilliant!! Is Moscow as dangerous as I've heard?Carbo wrote:Try to stay away from the stripclubs here. They can be... erm... addictive. On topic, I'd rather watch the allegedly coverage. I think Barry Jones is far better than anyone Sky have.
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
Haha I actually read that in the voice of Adam Smith! I agree, it would be too cringe worthy. I don't think I'll bother watching any of the build up, just the fight itself, far less painful emotionally.banjo wrote:Hopefully not Sky, can't be doing with Adam Smith gurning and telling us how it's going to be the fight of the millenium, breaking box office records and how we'll all be able to tell our grandkids where we were when an American and a Filipino had a fight in the summer of 2014.
Fuck off!
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
Adam smith and Johnny Nelson were at the Wild Card filming the other day, i would imagine they were doing stuff for a build up for the fight and given smith is head of boxing at sky i would imagine he must have been in town to discussit at least...
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
Well, I very rarely go to strip joints for a variety of reasons, but a few weeks ago, I had a friend visit from the states, who wanted to... well you know... and I took him to such a place. A few days later, I read in The Mail that there'd been a shootout in another place across town when a couple of rival mafiosa type gangs had gotten int a row about some stripper. But here's the thing: if you're not in that world, Moscow is safe. I feel safer here on a Friday night than I ever did in Newcastle. There are hardly any bar fights, for example.Shambles wrote:Sounds brilliant!! Is Moscow as dangerous as I've heard?Carbo wrote:Try to stay away from the stripclubs here. The main danger here is the women, who are stunningly attractive, and will trap you as effectively as any sneaky Bernard Hopkins plan.

Just watched Ringside and yes, they did send Adam, Johnny and crew to the Mayweather-Pac presser.
What an insult to us that pay for Sky Sports for the boxing! Sending this lot to the States, all first class I bet, just to film a couple of interviews - when week after week we have no cards on.
Ok, this week we have Kovalev-Pascal but I don't think many of us will watch it live at 4-5am.
If Sky Sports don't get May-Pac I'll be gob-smacked. How would they cope if ITV got it? Surely they wouldn't be able to keep banging on about it like Adam and Johnny are now, like two little school boys with the keys to the tuck shop. Who can blame them though, when they are getting paid to do it, by our subs.

Yeah there is times we have to wait weeks for the boxing on Sky,to be fair to them at the moment there is a card every week until April the 18th starting from last week so that's 6 week in a row which is better then usual, the quality of some of these cards can be questioned but at least it`s content for the boxing fan which as you stated can be sparse at times.Itv won`t get the Floyd-Pac fight BT or BN might through which would make Sky look bad.ScottDetonator wrote:Just watched Ringside and yes, they did send Adam, Johnny and crew to the Mayweather-Pac presser.

"Although Friday was the deadline day set for bids to be finalised for broadcasters to host Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao in the UK, it is understood the announcement will be made this week.
Telegraph Sport understands that it is a three-way tug-of-war between Sky Sports (Box Office), B0xNati0n TV, and BT Sport. It is believed that the cost of buying the rights may be around the £10-12m mark.
Signs are strong that Sky will be the winners in the rights war."

Dan Rafael tweeted on the weekend that he asked Arum about the rights for foreign TV - apparently Arum said that he ideally wanted it finalised by now but nothing's agreed yet, as every time they get close to a deal, another network offers more money!
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
That seems like an awful lot of money for a small channel like B0xnati0n. They may well run up Sky's bid but I'd be very surprised if they seriously want to end up with the fight at that sort of money.chad wrote:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/others ... -week.html

The article also says it's expected to do 1.5-1.8m PPV buys. It's all made up, no quotes in there, just a load of figures plucked from thin air.Sklar wrote:That seems like an awful lot of money for a small channel like B0xnati0n. I don't want BN to get it. They will get obsessed and it'll be the only thing that matters. I would rather they didnt get it, so they can go about their business. I don't want the budget blown on a single fight that fans can and will see elsewhere anyway.Sklar wrote:That seems like an awful lot of money for a small channel like B0xnati0n. That seems a very high estimate to me - what's the current record for a PPV in this country - and was it one of the Hatton fights, which I suspect it was.expe wrote:The article also says it's expected to do 1.5-1.8m PPV buys. With no British fighter involved, I'd be quite surprised if this fight broke any previous PPV records in this country - whilst people might be intrigued as to who will win, whether they will stay up until 5.00 am and hand over 20 quid, I'm not convinced.
I think this is one for hardcore fans, and their mates.
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
Hatton-Mayweather did 1.2 million and Hatton was a bigger name here than Mayweather and Pacquiao are, they're not going to find another few hundred thousand on top of that. If it does half of what Hatton-Mayweather did they've done well.jamesmcdonnell wrote:That seems a very high estimate to me - what's the current record for a PPV in this country - and was it one of the Hatton fights, which I suspect it was.expe wrote:The article also says it's expected to do 1.5-1.8m PPV buys. I hope BT show they are serious and smash Sky on the rights. They've all ready shown with the Footy bids they mean business in the sports market. Surely, the biggest fight, money-wise, of all time has a lot of pull...
I don't see BN being able to contend with those two giants. BT all ready has the mid-week program, FNF from ESPN and the WSB, they are a few live fights away from being the must have channel for boxing fans, especially if they can get a decent domestic promoter on board or a fighter with his own promotions outfit, like Khan or possibly Joshua in a couple of years.
Could this be the first ever BT PPV boxing event?

Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
I completely disagree - this fight will be much, much bigger amongst the casuals, which will be reflected in the amounts being bid by the TV companies. Don't forget, as popular as Hatton was, Mayweather wasn't nearly as well known in the UK when they fought. In fact, most of the casuals I spoke to at the time hadn't even heard of Floyd & didn't even realise he was favourite.expe wrote:Hatton-Mayweather did 1.2 million and Hatton was a bigger name here than Mayweather and Pacquiao are, they're not going to find another few hundred thousand on top of that. Pretty much everyone is talking about Mayweather vs Pacquaio - I'm seeing people on my Facebook talking about it who have absolutely no interest in boxing; they just know it's a big event so they want to get involved. I'd be amazed if it didn't do record PPV numbers in the UK.

allegedly may be willing to make a loss on the fight, backed by Bill Ives' money, to boost subscriber numbers long term and secure the future of the channel, I can't see Sky or BT showing it if they thought they were going to lose money.ScottDetonator wrote:I hope BT show they are serious and smash Sky on the rights. allegedly is the must have channel for boxing fans, BT hardly shows anything, the midweek program is given to them by allegedly and WSB is free on the internet, add in a few live fights and they might be classed as a channel that broadcasts boxing, right now Eurosport are above them when it comes to boxing.
Do BT have the facility to do a PPV?
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
I haven't heard anybody talking about it and it's at 5 in the morning, those people might check the result afterwards, but when push comes to shove and they're asked to pay £20 for it, most will bail. If Froch-Groves 2, with all the hype surrounding the fight and the 75,000 crowd, at a reasonable time did 900,000, how is Mayweather-Pacquaio going to do it?Boxerbeetle wrote:I completely disagree - this fight will be much, much bigger amongst the casuals, which will be reflected in the amounts being bid by the TV companies. Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
BN would need a million subs at £12 a pop for the fight to just break even, if the figure of 12 million and rising, is right. We should take into account advertising, which I'm guessing must be a large amount but still, BN is a small fish.expe wrote:allegedly may be willing to make a loss on the fight, backed by Bill Ives' money, to boost subscriber numbers long term and secure the future of the channel, I can't see Sky or BT showing it if they thought they were going to lose money.ScottDetonator wrote:I hope BT show they are serious and smash Sky on the rights. BT also show FNF live and have a team all set to go on the boxing front. I don't find it that hard to see BT getting this fight and getting more involved in the sport with it. Especially when they pay over 320+ million for there footy coverage a season. Big players.
Who knows though, maybe BT and BN could do a deal to both show the fight live with replays exclusively on BT or something. As for could BT do a PPV? I think Chad would be best to answer that question

How big on social media is the fight going to be hyped on fight week? Even the week before that? That is an audience that will transcend anything boxing has known overall. The potential and money it will make are astounding.
People will pay and people will watch.
Re: Which UK channel will show Mayweather Pacquiao ?
BT could set up a PPV channel but I'm not sure they could have it up and running within 8 weeks across all TV platforms i.e. SKY, Virgin Media etc... Buying the rights and setting up a PPV service would be pretty costly.ScottDetonator wrote:Who knows though, maybe BT and BN could do a deal to both show the fight live with replays exclusively on BT or something. Out of the 3 potential bidders, BT winning the rights and putting the fight on BT Sports would be the worst case scenario for those with SKY TV. If you want BT Sport for just one month you have to pay £15.00 activation fee, £13.50 for the monthly subscription plus £3.00 extra for HD. £31.50 is pretty steep. Plus if you choose the option of no activation fee, and don't read the small print, that's you locked into a 12 month subscription for the channel!

So basically, if BT win it, it will be on standard BT Sports. And why would they need a PPV channel looking at the costs there Chad. More subs are the incentive, same as BN. BT are looking at the future and this fight is a fantastic platform for whoever wins the rights.chad wrote:BT could set up a PPV channel but I'm not sure they could have it up and running within 8 weeks across all TV platforms i.e. SKY, Virgin Media etc...
