He may be as good, but he is predictable. Pascal had some success, because he is very untraditional, "herky-jerky" like John David Jackson said.davie wrote:I've always said I pick Sergey over Adonis and still believe that to be the case
But I can understand those that say the Pascal fight show he is beatable.
Not beatable by Pascal, but beatable none the less
Pascal had success, Pascal got to him and showed he could be countered and countered cleanly in that 5th and 6th round.
Now Sergey has a bloody good chin and walked through them, but when some people land cleanly it doesn't matter how good your chin is
2 of those people are Sergey himself and Adonis Stevenson.
Stevenson isn't as good as Sergey over all, but he is as good as Pascal and hits a hell of a lot harder.
If Stevenson can land some of the shots Pascal did last night, there's no reason he can't take a shock win.
There's a few if's in there, one of them being he doesn't get clocked with big shots himself. but I wouldn't count Stevenson out yet.
Kovalev is Someone You Duck!!

Re: Kovalev is Someone You Duck!!
A couple things Kovalev could improve:
1. He gets off balance quite often. He went down in Caparello fight and he went down in Pascal fight right before the stoppage. He was off balance a few more times last Saturday when throwing wild punches. I have never seen Golovkin off balance. Even when Gennady throws seemingly wild punches, they are never really wild, as he keeps his balance and orientation.
2. Kovalev is not (or barely) using uppercuts limiting his arsenal.

His head movement can be a bit iffy, too, particularly when he's "seek & destroy" mode. At times Saturday he slipped Pascal's shots neatly & then later on seemed to get a bit carried away & ate some right hands needlessly. Got tagged a few times with the left hook, too, which will be a huge, huge point of interest for the Stevenson camp.
I literally would have kittens to see those two fight. I'd favour Kovalev as I've said, but one shot on the button from Stevenson & that thing's over. I can't imagine a more compelling aesthetic spectacle in all of boxing...
Apart from González vs Inoue, which would make me all sticky.

Way to go lil guy!! Gold star for you!! Everybody, let's have a hearty huzzah for ClivePatrickLyons!!!ClivePatrickLyons wrote:Whats thispunchoutsb wrote:Evander wrote:Only speaking for myself obviously, but how anyone could see Adonis Stevenson as top boy in the Light Heavyweight division with Sergey Kovalev playing 2nd fiddle is beyond me.
Stevenson needs Kovalev more than Kovalev needs Stevenson at this point, Kovalev is front page news while Stevenson is an advertisement in the centre pages of the classified section as far as I'm concerned.
Stevenson is in a tricky spot, yes he could fight Pascal but before and after the fight inevitably the question most people will ask him will be related to Sergey Kovalev.
Stevenson is a decent fighter with some pop no question but remember he's 37 and I can only imagine the big networks would push hard for a bout between himself and Sergey.
Will Adonis take the fight ?
My guess is no unless the money is significantly higher than a Pascal bout or someone down the rankings.thumbs up so you must have seen my 8th round prediction for Kovalev

Maybe Stevenson got better paid I don't know.
But considering who Kovalev has now fought compared to Stevenson I would guess Kovalev would have enormous negotiating pull in his next fights and could quite surpass what Stevenson may earn.
