I think my first ever post on this forum was asking how someone could be called something like 'Kwanpichit 13 rien express' but it is because, as I was told at the time, Thai fighters often take on the names of their sponsors or gyms. :TU:

I'm surprised more American boxers aren't so inventive with their lean towards $$$. There's probably a sh!tload of money for Deontay Wilder to change his name to Deontay Nike or Deontay Adidas for a year or two. Kinda shocked no one has thought to do that yet in the US.

Bit of a nightmare headline when he beats down another female.

Now you just need to misspell Harry a bit.

It's an ingenious boxing name. As memorable as they come and helps the fighter earn a little bit of extra money by being sponsored by the CP Freshmart chain.

As someone else has said, a lot of Thai's get sponsored and take the sponsor's name (Singwancha, Nakorluang, CP Freshmart, 13 Rien) or take a gym name (Chuwatana, Kokietgym, Onesongchaigym). It helps them get paid as the purses in Thailand are often tiny, hence why they fight so often. Interestingly a lot of Thai shows are free to enter with the promoter making money from the advertising, the more people at the venue the more the advertising is worth. Very different world to how we live in the west.

His real name is probably Xi Xu or Chin Chin or Xangreumurhetheet Krangtangyangkangsangkai so the adopted name is likely better.

I look forward to the day when one of these Asian guys just calls themselves, "Huge A$$hole" or "Ginormous Bawz". The names over there are ridic. May as well go all out.

To us they are. They probably think western names are stupid. Especially American names like North West, Tayshaun Jackson Jr. or Rander Lerner III
