Will a Lonsdale Champion Run from the Best there is?

Post by BoxBuzz »

If the Lonsdale champion does not face the very best of the best Namely Pernell Whitaker....then Lonsdale Pride, (once the gold standard of Sim accomplishment,) means little more than any other ABC belt.

Lets' get one thing understood.....

Whitaker is the WBO champion. Whitaker is rated Number #1. A Lonsdale champion should seek out only the best.

Langford can keep his belt and accept Pernells challenge.

Or....do something less meaningful.

The Sim Hall of fame may record Sam, as the "flim flam" of Lonsdale history.

Whitaker has lost to Benny Leonard already.

Benny Leonard is the true champion.

If Joe Gans beats Pea once more he gets to keep him on his mantelpiece.

Definitely a credible and interesting question. And I wonder if it's comparable to Whitaker throwing his title in the bin, to gallop away from the threat of Homicide Hank.

Nope, just chasin the very best, at the expense of a title.

And yet you could have chosen to have met this threat head-on and upon succeeding (assuming that you would), then - at that critical moment call out Sam Langford and challenge for Lonsdale glory.

But alas, the road not taken...

Was the road less desired.
