Joe was a top amateur alright, very good fighters were doing brilliant if they got through 3 rounds.

Here's a good throwback fight - as much as many fans would have liked, they never did fight in the pro's but they had a real good scrap in the amateurs.

Apparantly Calzaghe's last ever defeat was in the welterweight Welsh ABA final in 1990 against Micheal Smyth. Here it is:

I remember Calzaghe saying in his autobiography that was robbed at the chance to go to the Olympics and how him and his dad fell out with the ABA

Amazing to think Froch fought Jason Booth, what was the outcome? I remember reading Froch lost to Peter Manfredo Jr in the ams. Footage of these fights would be great.

Khan knocked out Victor Ortiz in the ams, cant find any footage it online.
i've got this fight on video it was at the junior olympics, new orleans i think, not sure, we had a couple of lads from our club box there.

Evgenyi Romanov

I have questions about his chin. Stiverne was the first puncher he faced as a pro, and although he was never in trouble he was hit with very little of note.

Guess ER's still in the Amateurs or retired, Boxrec's got nothing on him.

In Haye's latest IFL video he speaks very highly of his sparring sessions with Wilder and of Wilder in general, while at the same time dreaming of a mega fight with the big American heavyweight so he can demolish him and make a real name for himself stateside. Something tells me Haye wants to play up Wilder yet he knows he can blast him out.

-Frankie Gavin beat Selcuk Aydin by DQ and Aydin was banned by the AIBA for attacking the referee after the bout. Frankie also beat IBF title challenger Lenny Zappavigna in the Commonwealth Games, stopping him on the outclass rule (27-7) in the third.

-Robert Helenius lost on points to Bermane Stiverne (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn-IOgR3V6k) but outpointed David Price (25-22). Price was knocked out when he fought (https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=GHelbbjaB3k).

Not stars, yet, but Khytrov Vs Murata at the 2011 Worlds, incidentally Murata also fought one of the Falcao brothers who he later met in the 2012 Olympics. All 3 are promising pros.

Kosei Tanaka (fighting a world title fight on May 30th) and Takuma Inoue (the younger brother of Naoya) fought something like 5 times as amateurs...maybe fair to say these are stars of tomorrow.

Toshiyuki Igarashi had Akira Yaegashi's number in the amateurs (think he went 4-0) with Yaegashi getting revenge in the pro ranks.

GGG sparring Chavez Jr at the wild card gym. Not an amateur fight but of interest none the less. Not sure what Chavez Jr's game plan was for this session, most would expect GGG to beat his ass anyway, but it looks like he is not even trying to compete.
