Stumbling block in McDonnell Vs Kameda "unification" bout?
A few days ago Eddie claimed we were 24 hours form having the bout announced...then things went quiet...and now it seems the WBO won't sanction it...don't know whether to laugh or cry...

Shame as it is a good fight however it's rubbish Eddie claiming it to be a unification fight.

You say 'I don't know whether to laugh or cry' but I genuinely think your desire to see people get one over on Matchroom is higher than your desire to see McDonnell getting a good fight. I mean there are some idiots on here lauding that Liverpool show that was meant to have Paul Butler and Derry Mathews getting shots, and the same people complain that Linares and Gradovich 'aren't good World champions.' And here we are with Kameda being a good World champ and it's not good enough for one of our guys to fight him either apparently. And now there's a supposed stumbling block and people are high fiving each other.
Re: Stumbling block in McDonnell Vs Kameda "unification" bout?
Haymon won't give a shit about the WBO sanctioning it,if he wants the fight to happen it will happen.
Re: Stumbling block in McDonnell Vs Kameda "unification" bout?
The alphabet belts mean to nothing Haymon it's all about fights for his pbc cards, the wbo have no power over anything Haymon wants to do.The fight will go ahead with or without any belts imo

I myself am just glad to see some of our boys linked to (& hopefully, fighting) quality fighters at the lower weights. What with this & the Haskins fight, C-P, Boxing Prospect & I will probably drive you lot nuts talking about sub-featherweights in the coming months.

I am planning my migration down to the lower weights to enjoy it. And not just when Quigg and Frampton are fighting their respective opponents (and hopeuflly one day each other!!).Datsue wrote:I myself am just glad to see some of our boys linked to (& hopefully, fighting) quality fighters at the lower weights. I'd love to see KAMEDA get a good fight, whether that involves a Matchroom fighter or not. I also haven't complained about Linares Vs Mitchell (credit to Eddie for getting it in the UK I was expecting Teiken or Golden Boy to put a bit of cash behind that) and I rate Gradovich highly. Linares, for all his issues, is a talented fighter, his chin has always been a problem (even in early career fights) but that's what makes him so much fun to watch.jameswilson wrote:You say 'I don't know whether to laugh or cry' but I genuinely think your desire to see people get one over on Matchroom is higher than your desire to see McDonnell getting a good fight. I'm happy that the WBO won't recognise the bullshit belts the WBA is tossing out rather than forcing fighters to actually win the belts against top fighters. Hopefully the WBA will stop doing that sooner rather than later. It's about time they were being castigated for it. Just look at the RIDICULOUS Super Featherweight division where they've promoted Uchiyama toe "super" champion and just weeks later announced Interim and regular title fights.
I AM sick of Eddie promising the world and delivering...significantly less. HOWEVER I would love to see this particular fight. Cry about it not happening, laugh at Eddie being so cocksure it was.

You seem very cocksure yourself that it isn't happening. Similar to how cocksure that you were that Otaki wouldn't be fighting Quigg in the days after it was announced over here because it hadn't been announced in Japan. And cocksure during the build-up that Otaki wouldn't even come over. I respect your opinion on Asian boxing, but you are (as far as I'm aware) just a fan and not a journalist with insider knowledge, and not a promoter/manager/trainer. If I'm wrong on that last sentence then do feel free to correct me.Boxing Prospect wrote:I'd love to see KAMEDA get a good fight, whether that involves a Matchroom fighter or not. Like people have said in this thread already, lets wait for Al Haymon, who is putting the show on, to tell us what the deal is. This doesn't mean the fight won't happen, just that it might not have 2 belts on the line. If this fight ends up being made still then your just gonna end up looking like Manchester Hitman did when he jumped on some twitter nonsense that Selby v Gradovich was going to fall through.
The Linares and Gradovic comments were aimed at others.

Oi James, I hope that the Linares comment wasn't aimed at me, I mean, I once actually wrote two thousand words on the subject of why I no longer hate the boy. I think that fully explicates my position on the dude.

I'm sure Eddie said yesterday on ringside that McDonnell vs Kameda 'unification' would be on the Figueroa vs Burns card in Texas on May 9th.

Parson said (or I thought he did anyway) that it would be New York on a different date to May 9th.keirw wrote:I'm sure Eddie said yesterday on ringside that McDonnell vs Kameda 'unification' would be on the Figueroa vs Burns card in Texas on May 9th.

Re: Stumbling block in McDonnell Vs Kameda "unification" bout?
It's good to see McDonnell get a good fight, but it isn't a unification and he isn't a world champion, if they keep trying to claim either of those, I hope Kameda flattens him. You're trying to twist what people have said, the show with Butler and Mathews getting world title fights was a great show, as is the O2 show, but Linares and Gradovich justify PPV to bring them over, if it's PPV it goes onto the shitheap.jameswilson wrote:You say 'I don't know whether to laugh or cry' but I genuinely think your desire to see people get one over on Matchroom is higher than your desire to see McDonnell getting a good fight.
