Worst title fight ever?
Worst title fight ever?
WBA Super-featherweight title.
I am not sure if it is the interim title or full version.
Emmanuel Lopez ranked 126 by the IWBR fighting Carlos Padilla ranked 168.
The WBA have them ranked 3 and 4 by their ratings.

When they pulled Tim Tomachek(?) out of the crowd to fight Tommy Morrison for a abc belt.
Re: Worst title fight ever?
Depends on how you define "worst"
If by that you mean most disappointing given what was at stake, it is hard to beat 2 that come to my mind.
Whitaker vs Chavez for the lineal welter title
Pacquiao vs Bradley for the WBO title

Ignore the fight, it's a paper title that the WBA created when they forced Uchiyama to be promoted.Lennox wrote:WBA Super-featherweight title.

For what it's worth look at some of the early IBF title fights, some of Satoshi Shingaki's opponents shouldn't have gotten a title fight.
Also there was a debutant who fought for a title, Arturo Mayan?, who was blasted out in about 60 seconds and never fought again

Any of Herbie Hide's "world" title defences prior to getting bombed by Klitschko?
Re: Worst title fight ever?
yeah that was pretty bad Tomachek was ranked #213 at the time (by my ratings that you don't like)ReggieDiggs wrote:When they pulled Tim Tomachek(?) out of the crowd to fight Tommy Morrison for a abc belt.

lol you can't make a post without discussing your rankings can you?Lennox wrote:yeah that was pretty bad Tomachek was ranked #213 at the time (by my ratings that you don't like)ReggieDiggs wrote:When they pulled Tim Tomachek(?) out of the crowd to fight Tommy Morrison for a abc belt.
Regardless of the ranking, taking anyone from an audience member to participant in the event is awful form even if the #1 ranked guy had ringside seats.
Re: Worst title fight ever?
Well I thought you would criticise if just left the number. I do make plenty of posts without mentioning them.ReggieDiggs wrote:lol you can't make a post without discussing your rankings can you?Lennox wrote:yeah that was pretty bad Tomachek was ranked #213 at the time (by my ratings that you don't like)ReggieDiggs wrote:When they pulled Tim Tomachek(?) out of the crowd to fight Tommy Morrison for a abc belt.

That Morrison fight I think what happened was Mike Evans (might not have been him) decided he was not fighting about 20 minutes before, so in fairness TT saved the day, but yeah as a WTF is was pretty grim, prob should just have been non title, but maybe the contracts and payments and ticket sales all had implications.
Arturo Mayan never had a fight before in that WBO straw-weight fight. Theres a lot of info on the website about Lineage and World Title fights.

If we're counting some of the more ridiculous 'world titles', Joe Bugner vs Bonecrusher Smith for the WBF title was just a farce from start to finish.

Not a title fight but the 12 rounder between Junior Witter vs Victor Lupo was so bad it deserves an honourable mention
I swear i thought we'd gone back to the 60 rounders of yesteryear

Didn't watch either but apparently Wlad v Povetkin was dreadful as was Mickey Bey v Miguel Vasquez
Re: Worst title fight ever?

Eurgh, what an awful bout that was. There was real hope going in as well due to it being a major unification, turned out to be dreadful, Don't think either guy landed a major punch all night with Klitschko spending most of the time batting Ibragimov's lead hand down...absolutely dire.Naandrew wrote:Sure Wlad v ibragimov was a stinker too.

I still have nightmares a quarter of a century later.fergusg wrote:Carlos De Leon's defence of his WBC world cruiserweight title in 1990 against Johnny Nelson was so bad that ITV's Reg Gutteridge (the commentator of this tedious bout) repeatedly had to apologise for the mundane nature of the fight!
It was seriously bad... and I mean real bad!![]()
Watch it if you dare!

winky was very defensive but still very watchable, vargas before him, and then terry norris in the 90's.handsofstone wrote:Who was the last exciting fighter to hold the IBF strap at 154? I'm scratching my head
