BoxRec v4
BoxRec v4
Hi all
A new version of BoxRec is now available and we'd like you to be the first people to see it.
Please take a look at http://v4.boxrec.com
....and let us know what you think!
Please note that this version doesn't have the editor specific functionality in, so you won't see anything different to what an ordinary user would see.
All comments welcome, thanks

Where is a link to forum ?
Also, when I go to rankings and select "All boxers" (all time), I see Hopkins with 300-some points at #20, while people around him have 1400+ points.

Re: BoxRec v4
The listing of fights is a bit "thick" (vertically) with information, it's harder to quickly scan down a fighter's career than with the current site. You see many fewer fights and the most relevant information (opponent name, etc.) doesn't jump out very much.
This "blockiness" of list items (items thinner across the page, but taller) is a current web site fad but for information digestion the current site is doing pretty well by comparison.
very minor but why not "win" "loss" and "draw" instead of "won" "lost" and "drawn" ?
"drawn" hardly seems like a real word :)

What is the purpose of this new version?
It doesn't look as good as the normal version.

Re: BoxRec v4
The regular version looks better imo. It's easier to read and guide your eyes.
Plus, I don't see the "shows schedule" on the new version.

Re: BoxRec v4
I prefer the standard version too.
Re: BoxRec v4
Very clean and the test site really caught my interest in how the statistics present themselves in a new fresh way.
Change is always difficult, but I really enjoyed and liked the new test version. At first, my instinct was to not be happy with the proposed changes, but after immersing myself for a little while ... i got excited by what i saw, and really like the layout.
I give it a great review, John. Cheers!

Re: BoxRec v4
Why are the profile pages so narrow? Don't like it.
Re: BoxRec v4
It looks more modern (the AJAX is great), but it's less usable (the boxer profile pages need an overhaul). The sidebar on the boxers' profile pages is more annoying than useful.
Re: BoxRec v4
Looks really neat! Did the survey
Re: BoxRec v4
A new coat of paint to make it cleaner (particularly the Home page), less stressful on the BoxRec server (I'm supposing), and, more importantly, provide new features (I'm not privy to what they all will be eventually).Horse wrote:What is the purpose of this new version?

Re: BoxRec v4
I like it. I like the drop down tale of the tape thing a lot. Get a better view of matchups without needing to click on a whole other page. I like the idea of adding pictures to the main record page instead of being on the bio page or w/e. I like the more indepth look on the view option too. Lotsa good stuff here imho. I don't necessarily love the design of the page. I'd like to see the boxer info taking up more of the page. I don't care who's trending or most popular or at least I don't care enough to see it take up so much of the page. I also really dug the other color scheme more. These colors all seem duller. Overall I dig it though.
Randomly I'd like to see amateur records added to the main record page. I think thats one of the more often looked for details on the bio page & its a worthy stat to ones important career details imho.

It's great. You've got to move with the times or you'll be left behind, that I can use the site on my phone is important.
Re: BoxRec v4
Its a major improvement! Cleaner and more modern.
I came across two issues:
1. In rating list country of residence is coming up instead of nationality.
2. When you return to to rating list from fighters profile, it switches to default page rather then to the settings you had chosen.

Re: BoxRec v4
Is there anyway to easily add a number to the fighters record, so their debut fight Is number 1, second fight listed as number 2 and so on? It would really be useful as you can quickly see at a glance how many fights someone had before they lost, got a title shot etc
Re: BoxRec v4
There is one thing i like from the current version that you should add to this version
When you go into a boxers profile you see there current rankings, you click onto there rankings and it links to the page where there are currently ranked with other boxers
I would love to see that in V4

Re: BoxRec v4
I'll be honest, atm it is that user friendly but I am assuming when I get used to it I will like it more.
It does seem very narrow though
