Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
The private jet of Mr Michael Buffer is ready to go, the fighters are primed for the fight and the sky cameras are ready to film.
It just so happens that i'm going to be in Sheffield this weekend as well so i was wondering how the ticket sales were going and whether the buzz from the fight makes it out to the city later on in the night? Will many bars be showing it or will i need to try and find a certain type of place?
Is anyone going or does anyone have any experience of Sheffield on a fight night. I've only been to a fight once before in Sheffield and left straight after the event.

Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
I am going to the fight, the last fight I saw live was Froch v Groves 1 so I am expecting big things!
I am not an expert on Sheffield bars but I do know that the greyhound stadium always shows live boxing (it’s a good night out at Owlerton) so that could be an option with the added bonus of losing a few quid at the same time.

I watched a Howard Eastman fight in a bar in Sheffield once.
It was in The Brown Bear, I think it was called.
Everybody else was dancing, having a good time. I was sat there watching Friday Fight Night in a bar that was far too trendy for my liking.

9k tickets sold. Set up for 10k I think.
Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
I don't know whether it is just me, but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about this fight or card in general
Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
Why would there be? It's not a very good card.sammy95 wrote:I don't know whether it is just me, but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about this fight or card in general
Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
I thought that. There's a pub near me showing it, and I was gonna wonder down. Wondered how busy it would be. Possibly not very.sammy95 wrote:I don't know whether it is just me, but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about this fight or card in general
Maybe Sky Sports News will hype up Kell Brook's big return from injury, and mention that he's a domestic rival of Khan's with a world belt?
I mean, they'd be making it sound more interesting than it probably will be. But it's not like Sky to refuse to hype something up when possible.

Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
Looking forward to seeing Brook back out again fairly soon after such a horrific injury and hopefully his mobility isn't too slow for Dan which it might be,I'm expecting Brook to do the bizz on points but I think Jo Jo is gonna work him hard, before the injury I'd maybe tip Kell to stop him but surely the legs gonna be cramping by the later rounds,I chopped the tips of my fingers off a few years ago and while their fine for the most part, they do play up with friction or in the cold etc
Luckily enough Dan's not gonna be punching Brook's leg but I'm sure somethings gotta give at some point? Hopefully I'm wrong
I've seen quite a bit of Dan and I rate him and he has an effective busy style,I'm not a fan of it,his fights are all the same and he just keeps ploughing forward which is usually fun to watch but every round is the same as the last, nah not for me,Brook is levels above him ability wise even with a gammy leg and he hits harder so I'm going for Brook to win a hard fought but comfortable UD

Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
Although i'm only going for the main event really as great as Etches v Khomitsky is it's not a co-main worthy fight on a world title homecoming bill.
Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
As a homecoming world title fight I expected more of a buzz to be honest. I was so buzzed for the Porter fight, I had no problem staying up for it and I couldn't get back to sleep after because of the hype ahahahahHorse wrote:Why would there be? Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
Gavin McDonnell fighting Oleksandr Yegorov for the vacant European SBW title, both guys unbeaten and McDonnell coming off a career best win over Malinga, its debatable how much Vusi has left but still a great win at this stage of Gavin's career
I had a look at Yegorov's record and don't recognize anyone other than Vorinin, whose been about the block,on paper looks like he's been picked to beat comfortably but we won't know until on the night, sometimes these inexperienced Russian's can be quite good but I reckon McDonnell wins a wide decision

Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
Egorov/Yegorov(seen a few different spellings), hasn't boxed for 18 months, half of his fights have been against debutants and he's only beaten two fighters with winning records, Voronin and some Argie. Not sure how he's actually managed to get a European title fight, can see it being a bit of a mismatch.handsofstone wrote:Gavin McDonnell fighting Oleksandr Yegorov for the vacant European SBW title, both guys unbeaten and McDonnell coming off a career best win over Malinga, its debatable how much Vusi has left but still a great win at this stage of Gavin's career

I suppose most fighters whose records would usually merit a European title shot would clearly pose too much of a riskexpe wrote:Egorov/Yegorov(seen a few different spellings), hasn't boxed for 18 months, half of his fights have been against debutants and he's only beaten two fighters with winning records, Voronin and some Argie. All I've seen of Dan is his two fights with Bizier. They were close competitive fights but I felt he done enough in both to get the nod despite many people who thought he lost the rematch.
He's tough looks set to go the distance in Brooks favour.

Cheers for the bit of info in here folks, i have to agree with most that there is a lack of big fight feel about it considering it's a homecoming world title fight.
I think i'm going to end up being similar to ilikebeer if i find a bar with it on.

I wonder how busy a pub will be for this?freddydoesdallas wrote:Cheers for the bit of info in here folks, i have to agree with most that there is a lack of big fight feel about it considering it's a homecoming world title fight.

There's a pub, say ten minutes walk from me that's advertising as showing it. I watched Haye vs Chisora there though, and it was packed. You could barely move, let alone queue for the gents.
I'm thinking of watching some of the undercard on in my local, which will be a lot emptier. And is next door. It just depends whether they'll put it on for me.
It might be a case of me watching it in a pub with two other people in, or a pub with 2 hundred other people in.

Brooks is 16/1, which says it all really.sammy95 wrote:I don't know whether it is just me, but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about this fight or card in general

I'm guessing you mean 1/16 if you're referring to Brook??MightyWarrior wrote:Brooks is 16/1, which says it all really.sammy95 wrote:I don't know whether it is just me, but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about this fight or card in general

i got a little bit excited there at the thought of him being 16/1. Now would be a great time to find a fight priced up wrong with skybet as they made national news for changing prices in the PSG Chelsea match.
Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
At the same time though, can we be as confident of a Brook win now as we would've been pre-attack?
Obviously, he's still favourite, before anybody moans. I'm not saying he's fighting a credible opponent. But he was badly injured a few months ago. Surely there must be a slight doubt as to how he'll perform. Even if Uncle Eddie has found an opponent that he thinks Brook will beat.

Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
Jon jo Dann is a credible opponent if not the most exciting name in the world, it gets the mandatory out of the way, the bookies always seem to back the home favourite at a silly price in this country a bet on Dann seeing that Brook might not be the same is got to be worth s punt
Re: Kell Brook v JoJo Dan - Sheffield
He really shouldn't be 1/16 anyone who knows boxing knows it shouldn't be that short the bookies play is safe to extreme in this country with the home favourite.MightyWarrior wrote:Brooks is 16/1, which says it all really.sammy95 wrote:I don't know whether it is just me, but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about this fight or card in general

Ionut Dan
Yegorov
Komitsky
^^ unfortunately, this is why the card has little discussion, even on boxing forums.
When Matt Hatton came, it looked an unreal atmosphere. Which underlines the importance of known opponents over titles.
I appreciate Brook has to get this job done, but thought maybe there would be sexier undercard fights supporting it.
I suppose you have to cut your cloth according to what sky pay.
