will floyd try to box like marquez?
will floyd try to box like marquez?
what do you think? marquez was the only fighter who really troubled manny in the last 10 years (not counting the bradley robbery). despite all the years of Training manny could never figure out to avoid JMMs Counter right Hand, he ate a lot of them in all 4 fights.
I think that floyd Team watched the JMM fights a lot but can floyd actually box like JMM? of course floyd is a better fighter but I think JMM is more willing to hit into mannys Multi Punch combinations and risking to be hit himself in that Action. many is very fast on his legs and has good head movement but during his flurries he is really open, if you hit into them he is easy to hit, but you are opening up yourself during that Counter too.
I think floyd prefers to block or slip the combination and then Counter but manny is very quick on the move out after his combination. so can floyd hit into mannys flurries like JMM did?

Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
Maybe. Floyd fights exclusively on the back foot from the outside these days. But that's what wirks for him. If he has to get close and fire proper punches off the front foot then it will be because Pacquiao's taking him out his usual comfort zone. If Floyd can stink the joint out by running away he will.
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
Why would he box like JMM when he can box like FMJ?
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
I think the OP means will Floyd study & adopt Marquez tactics & strategy for Pacquiao.cocka09 wrote:Why would he box like JMM when he can box like FMJ?
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
But there is absolutely no need to use JMM's tactics when Floyd's SOP will be just fine as a superior gameplan.Ricky_ wrote:I think the OP means will Floyd study & adopt Marquez tactics & strategy for Pacquiao.cocka09 wrote:Why would he box like JMM when he can box like FMJ?
They are both counterpunchers. But whereas JMM's counters put him in harm's way at times, Floyd's ability and athleticism allows him to be just as effective countering without needing to take punishment in trade.
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
Against slow-po's. He's out-gunned in speed & punch power vs Pacquiao. If he tries to box off the back foot the fight will end up looking like Pacquiao vs Shane and a wide ud for Manny. Floyd will know from the Marquez tapes he needs to stand his ground and land shots with spite.koolkc107 wrote:Floyd's ability and athleticism allows him to be just as effective countering without needing to take punishment in trade.
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
yeah, i think he will try to exactly that. big question is, if his legs can do what he used to be able to do.
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
As I said before, the biggest and most lopsided advantage in this fight for either fighter is skill. When the fight happens, it is going to surprise many how small the gap is between fighters in terms of speed and power.Ricky_ wrote:Against slow-po's. Floyd, in his last 3 fights, has gotten the respect of just as big or bigger men than Pac has.
Think about that for a moment.
As for the back foot, JMM has shown us 4 times that a good counterpuncher removes a lot of Pac's agressivenes. Had Shane had the guts to do more than jab, perhaps he would have more success. JMM has had the guts and I suspect Floyd will too.

Shane had the guts to fight for 3 rounds and got dropped, hard. JMM didn't have success simply by counter-punching, don't be so simplistic. His counter punches snapped Pacquiao's head back and hit hard enough disrupt his rthym enough for Marquez to fire his trademark combo-punching hooks. Mosley tried to counter off the back foot to keep Pacquiao off, he fustrated Pacquiao for the most part but lost every round. If Floyd runs he'll be running himself towards a lopsided loss. Floyd is going to need to roll back to the Gatti or Corrales years and find some punches with spite. He would have been better off going with Rodger in his corner for this one.
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
The point is this.
JMM is not a guy that dazzles folks wih his movement.
He has very good footwork, but it doesn't come with anywhere near the elusiveness that Mayweather's brings.
I would argue that, even if you think Mayweather's footwork has declined, as it is now it is far superior to anything Manny has seen from JMM.
And it will be one of the telling factors of the fight.

Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
no way will he take so much risk just to
get a knock out.
get a knock out.
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
punches with his opponent often and that's what you need to beat Pacquiao.. Floyd will use the pull back counter and be hitting Pacquiao with the right hand all nigbht.
Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
Styles make fights. Jmm is short and stocky and executes instant powerful counters.
Fm is much faster but puts less weight behind his punches but is in and out of danger. Aswell as being able to fight effectively on the inside. No way he tries to emulate jmm.
Everything comes down to timing. Will pac be able to land his combos and straight left? Thats what it all boils down to. We know fm can pick and poke for 12 rounds.

Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
Floyd Mayweather has been boxing's P4P king for maybe a decade.
I don't think he plans to imitate anyone else's tactics or style.
Why should he? He's the best on the planet and he knows it.
Mayweather will do what he wants to do. Not what others have done.
Marquez hasn't always been successful against Pac. So why would Floyd emulate him?

Re: will floyd try to box like marquez?
Why do you guys continually say things like JMM is more willing to risk being hit? I don't think any fighter wants to be hit and especially not hit by Manny Pacquiao, is it possible that JMM is just not defensively savvy enough to move, duck or avoid shots like that in the first place??dominik wrote:what do you think? marquez was the only fighter who really troubled manny in the last 10 years (not counting the bradley robbery). despite all the years of Training manny could never figure out to avoid JMMs Counter right Hand, he ate a lot of them in all 4 fights.

Or is your "thought" about this the only possibility?
You sound like you've been listening to too much of Freddie Roach's lame claims!! Floyd showed superior movement/use of his legs/footspeed in the fight vs Maidana and I guess that wasn't enough to convince you guys that he still has that ability??if his legs can do what he used to be able to do.
LOL how you call it running when Floyd actually moves but when Pacquiao fought that way vs Rios you called it "boxing".If Floyd can stink the joint out by running away he will.
Double standards much??

he is a better fighter than marquez but he has never fought a guy like pacquiao and his shoulder roll defense is more effective against orthodox stance guys (because he rolls the left shoulder to block the right Hand). also he is 37 years old and did not look overwhelming against maidana.
maybe he could find another gameplan to beat pacquiao but it would be a bigger risk than trying the "proven style" of JMM.
